Chapter 1380: Chapter 875: Deputy Captain of the Law Enforcement Team

"Little Yang, Little Yang, don’t be like this." Zhao quickly stepped forward and helped Yang Xiao, who had slumped off the couch, back onto it. "Qin Shuya is a good girl. She’s very grateful for your help, and you have a share in the profits from all the works under her name."

"Oh? How much?" Yang Xiao’s weary spirit was instantly revitalized. Although he had long achieved financial freedom, this was his ingrained first reaction.

"Half." Zhao sat beside Yang Xiao, teasing him with a smile. "Back then, you didn’t think Qin Shuya’s works were promising, but now look, there are fans of hers all over outside."

"Later, when I talked to Qin Shuya about the script, the parts you strongly advocated to cut were all her carefully planned selling points."

"Whew—" Zhao exhaled a breath of relief and glanced sidelong at Yang Xiao. "We’re lucky we didn’t listen to you and make those cuts."

"Let’s put aside the issue of money for now. I just have one condition: can the part of the work that pays tribute to me be cut out? I’m begging you." Yang Xiao clasped his hands together, even more devout than when praying to Buddha.

This put Zhao in a bit of a bind. "Well...Little Yang, this isn’t really good, is it? She means well. Plus, she’s more famous than you now, so it’s kind of like giving you indirect exposure."

"Are you sure her audience would also like my style?" Yang Xiao asked suspiciously.

Worried that Yang Xiao might do something impulsive, Zhao earnestly explained with examples, "Indeed, your styles are quite different, but nothing is absolute. For instance, yesterday afternoon, a few young girls booked in advance and played two rounds of scripts, both of which were Qin Shuya’s."

"After playing, they weren’t satisfied and played one of your scripts, saying that Qin Shuya’s were too sweet and they needed yours to balance it out."

Realizing more words would be useless, Yang Xiao had to give up. He introduced Su Tingting to Zhao, hoping to arrange for her to work there temporarily.

For friends introduced by Yang Xiao, Zhao was very enthusiastic. He called over a girl who worked at the script store to help Su Tingting familiarize herself with the various positions there and see what suits her.

After Su Tingting left, Zhao candidly said that business was great lately and he was considering opening two more branches. The locations were almost decided.

"I’ve been so busy recently. Once things settle down, I’ll write a new script with a Myanmar and Thailand style. The script fans will definitely love it!" Yang Xiao was full of confidence, but also secretly hoping to prove himself.

"Great timing! Qin Shuya is about to release a new script too. You could meet up and have a little meeting, maybe do a collaboration."

"With your storyline, plus Qin Shuya’s emotional scenes and imaginative ideas, wow, market response will surely be amazing!" Zhao was already overtaken by excitement.

"Little Yang, I remember telling you a long time ago to definitely write emotional scenes, and to write more, practice more, learn more. That’s the market trend. Don’t suppress yourself, release the wild beast inside you." Zhao unbuttoned his shirt, becoming more and more animated as he spoke.

"Uh..." As Zhao’s friend for many years, Yang Xiao had gotten used to the odd expressions that occasionally came from him.

People who work in this industry for long tend to be a bit abnormal, but Zhao was relatively normal.

After chatting for a while, the girl who had been with Su Tingting knocked on the door and came in, saying that Su Tingting had chosen a suitable job and was helping with the setup in the newly arranged script room, responsible for the background paintings on walls, wardrobes, and such.

Su Tingting originally studied painting, so this was her field, and she was just the kind of talent the Script Club needed right now.

Zhao patted Yang Xiao’s shoulder and praised him as a lucky charm, always resolving issues whenever he appeared.

Yang Xiao accompanied him with a smile, but deep down he knew this was just Zhao’s polite words. Zhao’s business was thriving now, and his reputation in the industry had been established. He could hire any kind of talent he wanted.

Besides, Yang Xiao had seen Su Tingting’s paintings before; they weren’t bad but certainly not outstanding either, honestly just average.

"Zhao, Su Tingting’s family is from out of town and she has no place to stay nearby. Can you help her arrange it? I’ll cover the costs."

"There’s no need to say that; we provide accommodation. I’ll arrange for her to stay in the staff dormitory, give her her own room. It’s nearby, about a 15-minute walk, very convenient." Zhao said with his usual reassuring smile.

After settling Su Tingting in, Yang Xiao planned to leave. After saying goodbye to Zhao, he went to Su Tingting’s room, but before getting close, he noticed a few girls gathered at the door looking inside.

"What are you looking at?" Yang Xiao frowned and asked.

Upon seeing Yang Xiao appear, the girls dressed in the Script Club’s uniform scattered in a rush. Some started mopping, some tidied up props, and others acted busy in a mime performance.

They were also veteran employees, knowing Yang Xiao was the second boss of the shop. Rumor had it he was the actual investor behind the store.

Yang Xiao walked to the room’s doorway and found the door slightly open, with faint sobbing sounds coming from inside.

Pushing the door open, he saw Su Tingting clutching her phone, leaning against the wall and crying.

"What’s wrong?" Yang Xiao was momentarily confused. "Did someone bully you?"

"No..." Su Tingting looked up, with a crying yet smiling expression directed at Yang Xiao.
