Chapter 1211: Chapter 810: Wrong!_2

Almost instinctively, Maria fished out her Fire Starter, twisted open the lid, revealing the dark red light inside. She blew hard, and at the instant of the light appearing, the scene before her chilled her from head to toe.

A twisted ghostly shadow was cast on the dilapidated paper window. As the light dimmed again, the ghostly shadow was once more plunged into darkness.

Maria uncontrollably retreated a half step but stepped into the void, rolling down along the slippery and sloped alleyway, the Fire Starter in her hand also fell to the ground.

The horrifying scene that Maria saw, Juan also witnessed, standing dumbfounded on the spot, at this moment the confusion in his heart even overshadowed his fear.

His mind went blank, completely unable to comprehend these ghostly things which seemed to have no limitations, appearing tonight with the sole purpose to utterly hunt them down.

"Why..."

Juan, almost consumed by despair, was awakened by a piercing scream, a woman’s scream, coming from Maria.

Maria wasn’t dead yet, but she was injured in multiple places, especially her twisted ankle. By the dim moonlight, Juan saw Maria seemingly crazed, staggering and running forward, while behind her appeared several twisted human shadows.

His pupils suddenly contracted tightly. These figures, although blurry, Juan instantly recognized them as the corpses prepared for burial.

Here, an ancient custom of wrapped burial prevailed, where the deceased was cleansed, then cotton was stuffed inside nostrils, bodies completely wrapped in white cloth, finally with a huge knot tied around the head.

The horror was that these corpses twitched incessantly, twisting in bizarre postures, backs facing Juan, heads towards the direction of Maria’s escape, as if about to rush forward to kill Maria.

Juan realized he still had a chance tonight, even though his judgment went awry, the fortunate part was that Maria’s frantic escape attracted these ghostly things’ attention.

"Stay calm, the more dangerous, the calmer..."

Juan forced down his fear, retreating little by little, trying not to make any sound, finding a way to escape, but the turn of events splashed cold water on him; those ghostly shadows that seemed to chase Maria actually slowly halted, then almost uniformly began turning.

In that instant, Juan’s heart jumped into his throat, he swiftly retreated into the nearest junction hoping to evade these ghostly things’ notice.

Hidden in the darkness, Juan tightly covered his mouth, dared not move, but soon, he heard sounds approaching.

"Thump."

"Thump."

"Thump."

...

The sound drew closer, and he couldn’t help but imagine such a scene, in the dark silent alley, several ghostly figures jumping towards him almost like zombies.

At this moment, he had no time to ponder why these ghostly things didn’t pursue Maria, he now faced a severe issue, to run, or not to run?

Should he escape like Maria or steady himself, quietly lurking, waiting for an opportunity.

But quickly reality splashed cold water on him, he couldn’t run now, his luck wasn’t great, the dark alley was a dead end, its end a door chained up which he could climb over with his skills but needed time, and would make a noise.

The alley also had several windows on both sides, looking very fragile, he had another option, figuring how to pry open a window, climb into a residence, and then find his way to escape.

"Thump."

"Thump."

"Thump."

...

The jumping sound outside the alley got closer, seeming like a talisman bringing doom, Juan was sweating profusely in anxiety, but he knew the more anxious, the more calmly he must think.

He forced himself to take deep breaths, focusing and thinking, as his thoughts gradually cleared, he suddenly realized a strange issue, when these corpses appeared earlier twitching vigorously, seeming about to pursue Maria, quite agile, but now chasing him, they leapt slowly, far slower than before.

This isn’t right, nor scientific.

Feeling the looming oppressive force, Juan’s mind was clearer than ever, suddenly a light bulb went off in his mind, he had a bold idea.

It’s all ghosts’ Blinding Technique, these apparitions can’t normally kill, they exist to push people to desperation, making them err.

For instance... Juan turned his head, looking at the few paper windows nearby, as well as the door at the alley’s end, in the next second, his mind suddenly cleared.

That’s it! Exactly!!

Those paper windows, and the door, are traps, as long as he instinctively rushes through the window or door in a panic, he’d get killed by the ghost hiding behind.

Behind these windows and doors are the real murderous ghosts, while outside, these seemingly terrifying ghostly corpses are mere illusions creating pressure!

"How cunning..."

Having figured these out, Juan felt assured, gritting his teeth, deciding to hold on till the end.

As he thought, the jumping sounds outside got closer, but simultaneously, the speed slowed down, even the dull landing sounds seemed elongated.

"Surely applying pressure." Juan was greatly assured, he deliberately found a safe place to hide, back against the wall, away from the windows and door, not giving those ghostly things any chance to kill him.

The jumping sounds got closer, entering the alley, finding Juan’s hiding spot, eventually standing right in front of Juan!

Just over a meter away.

At this moment Juan saw clearly, these were dead bodies wrapped in white cloth, with ghostly faces of dark blue, staring down at him.

Eyes glowing, yet utterly emotionless, gaze icy cold but vivid.

Juan has never seen zombies, but he instinctively pinched his nose, holding his breath, recalling scenes from old zombie films where survivors avoided being chased by zombies this way.

But Juan still overestimated himself, even sure of seeing through ghosts’ tactics, the tightly wrapped corpses truly standing before him terrified him immensely.

Heart pounding like drums, body trembling uncontrollably, trying to suppress he could only tilt his body further against the wall.

"Fake, all fake..."

Juan kept reassuring himself internally, though there’s no denying, these corpses impose great pressure, even holding his breath, he could still smell the pungent stench of decay.

But Juan confirmed he gambled right, because these corpses merely stood within a meter away, bodies slightly swaying but never approached.

"Surely fake, as long as I don’t error, they can’t harm me!" Juan was ecstatic.

But in the next second, something unexpected occurred, as he tilted his silhouette further away from those ghastly faces, the corpses before him also reacted.

They also didn’t approach, but almost simultaneously tilted their bodies.

From Juan’s perspective, the direction was identical to his own!

At this moment Juan was utterly shocked, realizing something’s wrong, something’s definitely amiss, events weren’t quite like he imagined!

Gazing at the corpses before him, Juan felt as though... as though he was looking into a mirror!

To verify his suspicion, he daringly switched directions, turning left, and soon, the ghostly shadows shifted their heads the other way.

But unchanged were the eyes, those pupils
