Chapter 1021: Chapter 713: Dead
This time was different from before; Yang Xiao could clearly feel that the female ghost’s tracking was more precise, and it wouldn’t be long before she found him.
"Don’t panic, hold on, I’ll come up with something!" Xu Yiqiu was a woman of action. She quickly left the duty station and ran to the north corridor on the second floor. Sure enough, the female ghost was pacing in front of a few patient rooms at the end of the corridor.
Finding the call button on the wall, Xu Yiqiu grabbed it to contact Yang Xiao, "Listen to me now, I’m going to send a patient up as a substitute victim, find a chance to run!"
"Run to the east corridor, that’s the way to get downstairs!" Xu Yiqiu emphasized.
Xu Yiqiu had already thought of a candidate when Captain Zhou mentioned using a patient as a substitute. There was a patient in room 211 on this floor, a man in his early twenties with severe dependent personality disorder. He was extremely afraid of being abandoned and overly trusted and obeyed others. After a few brief encounters, he had completely trusted her. Even if she told him to jump out of a window, he would comply.
Xu Yiqiu ran towards room 211, keeping her eyes fixed on the female ghost, mentally calculating the distance. Captain Zhou had reminded her that the female ghost would turn to attack her at about three meters.
Getting closer and closer, the sound of the bell became clearer and clearer. Fortunately, the female ghost in the corridor completely ignored her presence, continuing instead to search for Yang Xiao.
She burst into room 211 without peril, untied the man’s restraints, crouched down, and soothed him by touching his face, "Don’t be afraid. Sister needs your help with something. There’s another sister in the corridor, she can’t find her way home; can you help her?"
"Yes." The man nodded repeatedly, "Where is the other sister’s home?"
"Room 345 on the third floor. Take her upstairs and then send her back, okay?" Xu Yiqiu patted the man’s head.
She led the man out of the room, pointed to the female ghost not far away, and the man, as if greatly encouraged, mustered his courage and walked towards the female ghost, waving as he walked, "Sister, sister, look over here!!"
At that moment, Yang Xiao’s heart was in his throat because the door to his room was finally pushed open. What he didn’t know was that just as the female ghost had one foot over the threshold, a warm hand pulled her back by the shoulders.
"Sister, why are you ignoring me?" the man asked timidly, terribly afraid of being ignored or cold-shouldered by others.
The female ghost slowly turned around, the man jumped back a meter in fright with a cry, and then turned and ran.
"Sister, this sister is so scary!!"
The man ran while crying, heading straight towards Xu Yiqiu who was supervising him from behind, and the female ghost chased after the man at an incredible speed.
The ghost chasing the man, and the man chasing Xu Yiqiu, the corridor was instantly chaotic. At the last moment, Xu Yiqiu managed to rush back to the nurse’s station, dashed into the break room, and locked the door behind her. The next second, the man banged on the door.
"Sister, sister, open the door! I’m scared!!" The man cried, snot and tears streaming down his face, pounding on the door with his fists, "Sister, don’t drive me away! Waaa—"
The next second, however, the man’s pleas stopped. A pair of pale hands grabbed his head from behind and twisted it violently with a "crack." His head rotated 180 degrees, and his body went limp, collapsing as the female ghost let go.
Xu Yiqiu, hiding behind the door, saw everything clearly. She covered her mouth tightly, not daring to make a sound.
After dealing with the man, the female ghost once again tiptoed away, heading back to the north corridor to continue searching for Yang Xiao.
Fearing for Yang Xiao’s safety, Xu Yiqiu picked up the call button and immediately sent a warning to Yang Xiao, "The female ghost is heading back to find you, the patient is dead!"
At this moment, unfortunately, Yang Xiao was already about to exit the north corridor. Hearing the grim news, he darted into the nearest patient room without a second thought, the sound of the beckoning bell drawing closer and closer.
This time there probably wouldn’t be any reinforcements. Yang Xiao glanced at the two patients on the beds, then quickly rushed to the window. An old-fashioned lock was securing it, but Yang Xiao broke it open with his hands; it was merely for show.
Removing the lock and applying some force, Yang Xiao was thrilled to see the window open almost a third of the way.
Looking outside, there was no light, no sign of any building. It was entirely different from the night scene Captain Zhou had described. It seemed that the female ghost’s power only influenced this hospital building, while the outside world no longer belonged to Yang Xiao.
Leaning out and looking down, he could sporadically see lights from first-floor windows, but below that was an opaque darkness, making the hospital building seem as if it was drifting in a dark and eerie sea.
Originally, Yang Xiao planned to jump directly; after all, falling from the third floor probably wouldn’t kill him. But now, it seemed impossible. He shifted his strategy, deciding to make a rope to descend, attempting to break into a first-floor window.
There was no time to consider the feasibility. All he knew was that if he didn’t act now, he would die soon.
There were no curtains in the room, only sheets to use. Amid the relentless sound of the bell outside the door, Yang Xiao quickly untied a roughly sixty-year-old female patient, but he didn’t completely release her. The woman’s feet were still bound as Yang Xiao dragged her off the bed and began tying the sheets and the thin blanket together.
But time was the most critical thing Yang Xiao lacked. Just as he finished tying the rope, the room door was pushed open by an unknown force. Looking up, Yang Xiao saw nothing.
