Chapter 272: Sudden absurd quest
Returning to the camp, Luke found the two women sitting together, chatting merrily.
The awkwardness from earlier had completely disappeared. Their time alone had apparently been enough for them to warm up to each other.
"We brought the wood," Luke announced, drawing their attention.
"Laila? Why aren’t you helping Luke? You’re walking back empty-handed," Monica scolded as she stood and took the sack from Luke.
"Ah, that..." Laila muttered, glancing away
Luke barely held back the smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
The fact that Laila could still walk was surprising enough. Carrying anything on top of that would have been asking too much.
The pitiful girl was on the verge of fainting that’s why he spared her the labor.
"Let me help," Roxanne said, taking several logs from the sack before stacking them beside the pile of twigs and dried grass they had gathered earlier.
The two women busied themselves preparing the fire while Luke turned to Laila.
"Go get some rest if you want. I’ll call you when the food is ready."
Laila gave a slow nod before glancing at her mother and asking him.
"Umm... can you get me a pair of underwear from the bundle?"
Luke sighed. Right. In the heat of the moment, he had ruined the pair she was wearing.
Instead, he bought her a fresh pair of underwear and handed it over.
"Wear this. It’ll be more comfortable."
A faint blush spread across Laila’s face as she accepted it and quietly slipped into the still-empty tent.
Luke glanced into the other tent and found Thea groggily sitting up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"I’m going inside. Call me if you need my help," Luke said.
Much to Roxanne’s surprise, he lifted the flap and stepped into Thea’s tent.
Neither she nor Monica tried to stop him.
Thea looked at him in disbelief.
"What kind of manners are those? You should’ve asked before coming in."
Luke sat down across from her. The tent’s ceiling was so low that standing comfortably wasn’t even an option.
"This is my shelter. If anything, I should be the one offended that you’re sleeping in it without asking."
Thea folded her arms.
"So what? My mate entrusted you with my care. Isn’t it obvious you’d provide me with basic necessities?"
Luke narrowed his eyes.
"We both know the Chief dumped you on me because he couldn’t deal with you himself. And we both know why you insisted on coming along."
For the briefest moment, Thea’s confidence cracked.
Still, she kept a composed face.
"What exactly are you implying?"
Luke smirked.
"Don’t pretend I haven’t seen through your little scheme, you little minx. You only came because you wanted to ruin this trip for Roxanne. You knew how excited she was, so you inserted yourself into it."
Thea let out a scoff.
"Believe whatever you want. My life doesn’t revolve around her."
Luke hummed thoughtfully before asking, "Then you wouldn’t mind if I took you back home, would you?"
Thea’s eyes widened.
"Why would you do that? We’ve already come all the way here."
Luke shrugged.
"You’ve seen the place and had your fun. How about I take you back now? It won’t take long, I promise."
"You are so annoying!" Thea snapped as she shot to her feet.
With an irritated huff, she spun around, intending to storm out.
"Ah!"
Before she could take another step, Luke caught her wrist and yanked her back onto his lap.
His arms wrapped around hers, locking her in place with no room to escape.
"Agh, let go of me! You’re crossing the line again. I’m seriously going to get mad this time."
Luke flashed her a grin.
"And what exactly are you going to do when you get mad? There isn’t a single warrior here to protect you. And the people outside won’t even bat an eye if I tell them not to interfere."
Thea bared her teeth in a growl.
"Don’t push your luck. Just because your tricks worked before doesn’t mean they’ll work again."
Luke let out an amused hum.
"Oh? And what are you going to do? Beat me?"
Thea’s eyes flashed with fury.
Without warning, she grabbed his arm and sank her teeth into his forearm with all the strength she could muster.
"Agh... tch!"
The pain wasn’t what bothered him.
It was the sheer audacity.
This little bitch.
Clicking his tongue, Luke pried her jaws off his arm before shoving her away.
"Ah!"
Thea lost her balance and fell onto the ground.
Luke barely spared the bite on his forearm a glance before striding toward her, his expression dark with anger.
Thea’s face drained of color, yet she stubbornly met his glare.
"S-See? I can fight back too," she said, refusing to yield.
Luke loomed over her, every muscle tense as he prepared to teach her a lesson.
Then suddenly,
[Quest: Kiss her breathless]
[Reward: Possible Fragment]
"..."
Luke froze.
What the hell?
He was supposed to kiss her now? While he was furious?
This system was seriously messed up.
Still...
A possible fragment.
"W-What...?" Thea stammered, trembling from head to toe as his towering frame cast a shadow over her.
Luke narrowed his eyes.
"Even knowing I could kill you in the blink of an eye, you still had the nerve to bite me?"
Thea let out a scoff, though it lacked its usual confidence.
"So what? Do you even know who I am?"
Luke reached down, firmly cupping her cheeks in one hand. She flinched at the sudden grip.
His deep gaze locked onto hers.
"And do you know who I am?"
Thea’s breathing grew uneven as he leaned closer.
"You know what loud little brats like you deserve?"
Panic surged through her chest as countless possibilities raced through her mind.
Before she could react, Luke suddenly closed the distance and crashed his lips against hers.
He pinned her down hard against the ground, his heavy body crushing her smaller frame beneath him.
One hand gripped her jaw, forcing her mouth open wider while his tongue shoved deep inside, claiming every inch with aggressive, sloppy strokes.
He devoured her like he owned her, sucking on her tongue, biting her lower lip hard enough to draw a muffled yelp, then plunging back in even deeper.
Thea squirmed and pushed at his chest, but he was too strong. He ground his hips against her, trapping her completely as he kissed her breathless. Wet, obscene sounds filled the tent.
Saliva dripped down her chin as he assaulted her mouth with his tongue, relentless and filthy, not giving her a single second to breathe.
Her lungs burned. Her head spun. She could only whimper and gasp into his mouth while he took everything he wanted, pinning her wrists above her head with his other hand and dominating her completely.
When he parted from her, she was panting heavily, her face devoid of any shade and eyes teary.
Heat and fluid have been building between her legs for some time, and with that kiss, something clearly ruined her clothes.
Luke sighed and wiped his lips.
Stepping out of the tent he muttered, ’We need to talk about your sudden quests, system.’
