Chapter 213: Bone Munchers

They looked like gorillas, but with very sharp teeth and this kind of body that seemed to combine features all the wild animals he had encountered in terms of aggressivenes.

They were built for power. Their limbs were thick, their muscles bulging beneath coarse fur. But unlike a gorilla, they didn’t stand up like a human. They moved on all fours, their knuckles dragging against the ground, their bodies low and predatory.

They had really strong hands and legs, the kind that could tear through flesh and crush bone with ease.

Darion was in shock as he stared at them. He had seen strange creatures in this forest: the Yuimons, the Slitherer, the Horned Olfs, but nothing like this.

These creatures looked like they had been designed specifically to be terrifying. Their teeth were long and sharp, jutting out from their mouths even when they were closed. Their eyes were small and dark, fixed on the carcasses they were devouring.

’Strange-looking gorillas,’ Darion thought. They looked so strong and ripped, like those gym guys who spent hours lifting weights.

They looked like they could run at you and rip your eyes out with a single swipe. Every movement they made was deliberate, controlled, powerful.

Darion thought about something: would they perchance fight like bears? Y’know, standing up on their hind legs as they fought, using their weight and size to overwhelm their opponents?

He watched them for a moment, studying their movements. They stayed low to the ground, but he could see the potential. If they reared up, they would be towering, their massive arms swinging with devastating force.

The creatures were about thirty in number, gathered around the corpses of animals they had just killed.

They tore into the carcasses with savage hunger, their teeth ripping through flesh and muscle. But what really caught Darion’s attention was the way they munched on the bones.

They crunched through them like they were eating brittle twigs, their powerful jaws grinding the bone into fragments.

That amazed Darion. Eating the bones? Nah!!! How???!

He asked his system in his mind, and it replied:

[They have one of the strongest teeth in the forest, meaning when they meet a creature, they can just munch the bone to death.]

Damn! Darion thought.

This would be a really tough one for his undeads. The creatures were very strong, with a grip that could crack a bone and potentially break it. And now their teeth basically munched on bones like they were nothing. How would his undeads survive this?

I mean, they would, but he would lose a lot. If these were creatures that munched on bones easily like it was a balloon, then his undeads might win, but that would come with a loss of a lot because their bones would be munched.

The undeads were strong, but they were still bones at the end of the day. Bones could be crushed. Bones could be broken.

The only way to kill them off, to wipe them out completely, was to summon all of his undeads and use his full force.

He needed overwhelming power, the kind that would leave no room for the creatures to fight back. But then, they had to go undetected.

He wouldn’t want a case where the creatures knew that he wanted to fight them. If they were alerted, they would scatter, or worse, they would attack him directly.

He needed to take them unawares. That would mean summoning all of his bats first as a distraction.

With whatever the name of this creatures was, trying to figure out what was happening, all of his undeads would come and kill them all. Every single one of them. Some sneak beating.

Darion gave Seren a sign to come down from the Horned Olf. She dismounted carefully, her movements quiet, her eyes scanning the clearing. When she reached him, Darion directed her to come and see. He parted the bushes slightly, revealing the creatures in the clearing.

When she saw them, her eyes widened. She didn’t say anything, but her grip on her bow tightened.

Darion signaled for her to get ready to shoot. "Wait until my plan is in effect," he whispered. "I’m going to send my bats first to distract them. When they’re focused on the bats, you shoot. Aim for the eyes or the neck. Soft spots. That’s where they’re vulnerable."

She nodded, her jaw set, her arrow already nocked.

Darion explained with whispers and a signals that her shooting would help a lot too.

The bats would cause chaos, but the arrows would do real damage. A well-placed arrow to the eye or the throat could drop one of these creatures, and every one that fell made the fight easier for his undeads.

He reached into his inventory and summoned his bats. They took to the air, a swarm of dark shapes against the dim light. They flew silently, circling the clearing, drawing the creatures’ attention. The creatures paused in their feeding, their heads lifting, their eyes tracking the swarm.

Then Darion gave the command. The bats dove, striking at the creatures’ faces, their small bodies fluttering around their heads. The creatures swatted at them, their massive arms swinging, but the bats were too fast, too agile. They dodged and weaved, keeping the creatures distracted.

Now, while the bats did their job, the other undeads moved in.

From the shadows, from the trees, from everywhere, they emerged.

The wolves came first, low to the ground, their green eyes glowing like embers in the dim light.

They moved silently, their paws barely disturbing the leaves beneath them.

The Rops flanked from the sides, their four eyes blinking independently, their wide mouths hanging open, ready to strike.

The Yuimons came next, their massive bodies blocking the creatures’ escape routes, their circular mouths opening wide to reveal rows of glistening teeth.

The Horned Olfs followed, their horns lowered, their bodies tense, ready to gore anything that got in their way.

The fight was brutal and quick. The undeads fell on the creatures with savage efficiency.

The wolves nipped at their heels, their teeth finding the soft tendons behind the knees, forcing the creatures to stumble.

The Rops tore at their flanks, their sharp claws raking through flesh and fur.

The Yuimons overwhelmed them with sheer weight, their massive bodies crushing the creatures beneath them.

The Horned Olfs gored them with their horns, driving deep into their sides and chests, and the bats continued to harass them from above, diving at their faces and eyes.

Seren shot arrow after arrow, her aim true. One creature fell with an arrow buried deep in its eye.

Another stumbled as an arrow pierced its throat, blood spraying from the wound. She was making a difference, picking off the ones that tried to escape, the ones that broke away from the pack.

Ghet Ulg moved through the chaos like a force of nature.

His massive frame towered over the creatures, his rusted battle axe swinging in wide, brutal arcs.

Each strike sent one of the creatures crashing to the ground, their bodies broken and still.

Edric Vorne fought beside him, his sword flashing in the dim light, carving through the creatures with precision and speed.

The Slitherer moved between the legs of the creatures, its armored body coiling and striking, its circular mouth tearing at tendons and joints. It was small compared to the others, but it was relentless, and every wound it inflicted added to the chaos.

The undeads fought without fear, without hesitation. They didn’t feel pain, didn’t tire, didn’t stop. They just kept fighting, kept attacking, kept pushing forward.

And the creatures, for all their strength and ferocity, were no match for the coordinated assault. One by one, they fell, their bodies crashing to the ground, their blood soaking into the earth.

Some of the creatures that were too powerful were torn apart so quickly and brutally by the Yuimons. The massive undead creatures didn’t hold back. They crushed skulls, snapped spines, and tore limbs from sockets. It was brutal, efficient, and devastating.

The fight ended quickly. The clearing fell silent, the only sound the heavy breathing of the remaining creatures. Darion looked over the scene, counting the bodies.

Over thirty creatures, all dead. And Darion had lost no undeads.

He smiled. This was a victory!

He walked over to the nearest corpse, crouching beside it. He stared at it for a moment, the creature was seriously disfigured, its bones ripped out by his almighty undead Yuimons.

He didn’t stop them. This would have been a very close fight if they hadn’t sneaked, even with 150 undeads. The creatures were too strong and too aggressive. So the undeads had to be brutal, had to end the fight quickly before any of the creatures could mount a proper defense.

But in the end, he needed just 22 corpses, and this was over 30. He could count 36. Some had lost their bone structure, but he could count 22 intact corpses here.

He crouched, placed his hands on the first intact corpse, and spoke the word.

"Arise."

Green light spread from his palm, washing over the body. It twitched once, twice, and then its eyes opened, glowing green. It rose slowly, its movements stiff at first, then smoother as the binding settled.

He moved to the next one.

"Arise."

And the next.

"Arise."

One by one, the creatures rose from the dead, their green eyes burning in the dim light. Twenty-two of them, their bodies still and waiting. The rest lay dead on the forest floor, their bodies too damaged to be of any use.

Darion didn’t need them. This was enough. His inventory was full.

His status screen appeared before him:
