Chapter 320: | 320 | The Great War Part 8: The Authority and The Dragon

In the southernmost shores of the supercontinent Europa, a Forward-Operating Base of the United World Government dwelled within a secluded peninsula. It was vibrant with life and machinery as personnel of differing species worked together for a common goal.

Walking along the busy streets was Abraham, whose towering figure loomed over everyone else. Beside him was the gorgeous dragoness, Laplace, who tightly embraced his stout arms.

These two were the guardians of the United World Government, individuals who stood at the summit of democracy and freedom. One was known as the Authority while the other was the Dragon of Liberation.

Despite the particular identities of the two, the crowd remained ignorant of their presence and continued to live their life as though entities they considered as gods didn’t walk amongst them.

"Your spell isn’t bad, Laplace..." Abraham remarked, smiling gently at his wife whom pouted after hearing him. Laplace glanced at her husband, who towered over her and asserted. "In terms of magicraft, I am unrivalled in the United World Government!"

"Yeah, yeah... Great Master of the Arcane." He grinned and added. "I recalled someone begging the teacher of her daughter to learn more folk magic. Even her daughter stopped talking to her for a single day afterward."

"I didn’t expect for my aloof child to learn embarrassment. Luckily, I wasn’t the example that would be carved into her mind. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the face of a father." He muttered under his breath, wearily shaking his head.

"Huh? How arrogantly spoken for someone who keeps relying on my folk magic. I don’t even have enough time to do my job after being always dragged by you to head somewhere else." Laplace raised her eyebrows, a smile tugged the edges of her lips, becoming smug by the moment.

"How about you start begging me for it?"

Abraham merely grunted and kept walking, ignoring her demand. Seeing his reaction, Laplace’s supple lips widened as she poked his rugged cheeks. "Eh~ Is my loaf embarrass?"

"When did I become your loaf?" He raised his eyebrows, glaring at his wife who merely sticked her tongue and hummed right beside him. Noticing her ignoring him, he pinched her cheeks and questioned. "So when did I become your loaf?"

Laplace stared at him before darting her eyes away, trying not to answer his question. Abraham sighed to himself, understanding that he wouldn’t be able to pry the answers from her mouth.

The two of them promptly arrived at their destination, which was a simple restaurant right beside an alleyway. When they entered the restaurant, a gentle and warm atmosphere enveloped them.

Abraham and Laplace sat at their respective seats with the dragoness leaning on the table, unveiling her ample bosoms while gazing upon her husband’s eyes.

"In any case, why did you bring me along in Europa? Are you planning something interesting?" She tilted her head, curious about the thoughts of her husband. Abraham looked at her for a moment before replying. "I heard that the Sovereigns have convened in the central continental region."

Laplace smirked at the news and asked. "Are you sure we should be discussing about this in a random restaurant? I expected to hear this news from the summit of Citadel."

"The news has already been reported to the higher echelons of the United World Government. Most of them should be aware of the convention by now." Abraham answered and looked through the menu.

"I believe that a major counter-offensive is on the way. The Sovereigns and their respective countries will begin participating in this war, thereby augmenting the pressure brought upon to the United Military."

"While they are already independent enough, capable of handling mystical threats on their own. I don’t believe they stand a chance against beings like us, the Sovereigns of Humanity."

He expounded before calling to the waiter and ordering a meal. "What would you like, Laplace? I heard that the food in this restaurant isn’t bad. It is also a bit reclusive, giving it an atmosphere of soothing silence."

Laplace stared at her husband and exhaled. "Choose a meal for me." A smile dawned upon her supple lips, prompting Abraham to nod in understanding.

After the waiter took his leave, the two continued their discussion.

"If your higher echelons heard of your words, they might feel sadden for being underestimated by their own ruler." Laplace’s smile transformed into a grin, pointing at Abraham with her pale fingers.

"I’m merely speaking of the truth... While the United World Government has grown into a magnificent nation, you and I could dismantle it with ease if we desired to." Abraham wasn’t afraid of speaking the truth.

He understood his power the most. As long as the shackles of responsibility and consequence were gone, the amount of destruction he could cause was insurmountable.

"So what plan do you have in mind?" Laplace softly asked, resting her chin over her palms. "A conflict with the Sovereigns is bound to bring forth tons of casualties. Even we wouldn’t be able to save anyone if a Sovereign directly targeted the United Military."

"The only reason why none of them had dared to do so was because they were smart enough to understand that we’ll do the same to theirs."

"Indeed, I plan to let the United Military continue fighting in their theatres, only moving once the Sovereigns have been confirmed to have made their actions. Although passive, it’s better than inviting chaos through actively dismantling the central continental region." Abraham nodded.

His plan was cautious as the United World Government was far from capable of defending themselves against the wrath of a Sovereign.

"Isn’t that too cautious?" Laplace was somewhat surprised of her husband’s strategy.

"Perhaps... If I had done what I wanted to do, I would have tried personally handling the Sovereigns. But their numbers are much greater than ours. If one ever escaped from my grasp, the United World Government would be doom." Abraham shook his head.

The primordial world became a chessboard for entities who stood at the summit of their species. Each couldn’t move a single muscle without attracting the attention of others. Those who dared to personally intervened would be dominated by all the chess players.

It was a peculiar game, all for the monopoly of the seven seas.
