"Everyone, get ready."
When a mission came, you had to obey orders.
As for anything else, just stay quiet. You had no right to refuse.
Unless the Hyūga clan wanted to disobey orders.
The consequences of disobedience...
Tsk tsk, just thinking about it was exciting.
Disobeying orders during wartime—Kazuki would welcome the Hyūga elders rising up in defiance. That would make it easier for him to strike.
Another reconnaissance mission meant deploying another large group.
Without the right to refuse, they could only grit their teeth and accept it.
By then, even the slowest had figured out what was happening.
Was there even any major operation planned at the camp recently? Was Lord Advisor targeting the Hyūga clan specifically?
Most of the Hyūga at the camp had already been deployed.
"Hey, what’s up with the Hyūga? Why are they sending so many out on missions? Did they offend Lord Advisor?"
"Offend him? What do you know?"
"I heard from an elder in my clan that the village plans to revoke some ninja clan privileges. From now on, clans can’t handle internal punishment themselves; it has to go through the village. All the other clans agreed, but the Hyūga refused."
"That sounds like a good thing. Why would they refuse?"
"For the regular clan ninja, sure, it’s good. But for the clan elders and clan leader, it’s bad news."
News spread. There’s no such thing as an impermeable wall. Issuing such an order, Kazuki would certainly inform the other clans. Without explicit confidentiality, the news was bound to spread.
Sure enough, in less than a day, everyone’s attention was drawn to the Hyūga clan.
The new rule – forbidding clans from punishing their own members, requiring village oversight – was mostly irrelevant to most clans, including the Uchiha.
Only the Hyūga felt their blood being drained.
Hence the situation: all other clans agreed, only the Hyūga refused.
You Hyūga are special, aren’t you? Everyone else agrees, only you refuse.
Especially those Main House elders – you’ve gotten addicted to disciplining your own people and just won’t let go.
And on top of that, the village needs your permission to deploy Hyūga ninja?
Are the Hyūga still members of Konoha?
When news spread, those unaware learned what had happened. Especially within the Hyūga clan, voices were raised.
The Branch House ninja were full of resentment, aimed primarily at the clan elders.
The village’s proposed changes obviously benefited the Branch House, but the elders refused. Hence the current situation.
The village was retaliating against the clan, but the Branch House were the ones suffering. The Main House were untouched.
The elders remained high and mighty. No matter how dangerous the mission, they were never the ones deployed.
Thinking this way, the Branch House ninja’s mindset shattered.
Why is it always us?
The Main House treats us like slaves. And when the village tries to give us some benefits, you ruthlessly refuse.
You refuse happily, and we still suffer.
"Damn it! Why is this happening?"
Main House members already had a poor reputation. Branch House members had been enduring. But all friction had been limited to within the clan.
Now, it had become public. Especially after the unfair treatment of the Branch House was exposed, the Main House members were dumbfounded.
"Who spread this? We must catch them and severely punish them!"
"This is ruining our Hyūga clan’s reputation! Damn it! So infuriating!"
"Catch who? You dare?"
Hiashi didn’t speak. He just watched the elders clamor. After a while, the Grand Elder, irritated by the noise, pointed at the loudest and cursed.
"Don’t forget where you are! Investigating people?!"
"....."
Scolded by the Grand Elder, the elders realized they weren’t in the village. They were at the border camp. Investigating people in camp? They’d have to have a tiger’s gall bladder.
Having no other recourse, they turned to Hiashi.
"Clan Leader, are we just going to stand by and let our clan’s reputation be ruined?"
Since you’re the clan leader, you have to solve clan problems. Otherwise, what’s the point of having a clan leader?
Hiashi frowned slightly. After a few seconds of silence, he said.
"I will go to the command post and ask Lord Advisor personally. Calm yourselves and await my news."
Hiashi acted decisively.
Agreeing to take the heat, he didn’t hesitate. He left immediately for the command post. This decisive action rendered the clamoring elders speechless.
Only the Grand Elder frowned.
He still felt something was off, but couldn’t say what. A premonition told him this visit wouldn’t end well. Unfortunately, no one else saw it.
Not certain, he kept his concern to himself. Maybe it was just his imagination.
No matter how much Kazuki targeted the Hyūga, he wouldn’t go too far.
At least, that’s what he thought, and the other elders too.
And then... Hiashi didn’t return. After waiting anxiously, unable to wait any longer, the panicking elders sent someone to the command post to inquire.
The news they got struck them like lightning.
"Clan Leader Hiashi was detained for expressing dissatisfaction with camp arrangements, believing the clan was being uniquely and specifically targeted, and for confronting Lord Advisor."
The clan leader was detained?
Things have blown up?
Only then did the Hyūga elders realize Kazuki wasn’t playing around. He was truly playing hardball.
And he wouldn’t give them any chance to resist.
If they were in the village, they might have some leeway. But they were at the border camp. A moment of carelessness, and they’d be surrounded, and then...
At this moment, most Hyūga ninja had already been deployed and couldn’t easily return.
With rumors flying everywhere, even if the elders were caught and punished, the remaining Branch House ninja wouldn’t dare – and even if they dared, they wouldn’t step in.
They wished the Main House elders would hurry up and die. And those Branch House elders who valued clan rules even more than the Main House – they wished them dead even faster.
When I spoke nicely to you, you weren’t happy. When I gave orders directly, you still refused. So don’t blame me for deliberately targeting you, for deliberately retaliating.
