Chapter 1556: Chapter 1550: Outstanding Artifact Assassin

It didn’t take long for Ronald to chuckle softly.

Referring to the types of achievements once made by the church in magic spells, he felt the likelihood of the first type was far greater than the second.

And this means, aside from Ronald himself.

The current Holy City has already turned into a massive trap aimed at the "Nine Commandments Meeting".

In places known or unknown to him.

Crises may be actively waiting for the other side to jump in.

Being cautious.

Ronald stood in place, continuing to observe the changes in the water stains.

But unfortunately, the phantom of the Holy Grace Cathedral did not leave him with additional clues.

After the last farewell dissipated, these water stains quickly sublimated on the surface of the altar, leaving no trace whatsoever.

Ronald bent down to inspect closely.

The altar’s cracks were purely physical damage, and after the water stains disappeared, even the changes in value vanished from the surface.

"..."

"It seems this is as far as it goes."

Confirming there would be no further changes here, Ronald no longer delved into the details.

After all, within the Holy City, the enemies of the "Nine Commandments Meeting" awaited his pursuit.

Reorganizing his mindset.

Ronald turned and walked out of the small chapel.

Just as he reached the gate, he noticed a powerful Magic Power quickly approaching him.

The opponent was rampaging through the city, without a care.

Their anxious mindset was exposed completely.

Yet on Ronald’s face, there wasn’t the seriousness and tension typical when facing an enemy; instead, a smile of delight appeared.

Only because he had discerned the opponent’s identity.

"Costate, you’ve finally arrived!"

Ronald walked straight out of the chapel, and on the street on the other side of the monastery, the maid who hurried here at the fastest speed finally appeared.

Anxiety and guilt were almost written on Costate’s face.

She completely ignored everything in the Holy City, her eyes only focused on Ronald’s figure, rushing to her master’s front and half-kneeling:

"Sir, sorry I’m late!"

After proactively admitting her work mistake, Costate proceeded to explain:

"After entering here, I became trapped in a peculiar place in the city, figuring out many ways before finally escaping. As soon as I sensed your Magic Power, I hurried over!"

"There’s no need to apologize for such things." He comforted Costate, lifting her up, before continuing to ask, "By the way, Martha? Due to special circumstances, the place I entered in the Seven-string Seal was different from yours. You two didn’t get separated too, did you?"

Costate immediately shook her head:

"I didn’t appear in the same place as Martha."

"It might... it might be because I’m not human. I appeared alone in a place full of sculptures."

"Sculptures?" Ronald furrowed his brow.

The maid quickly confirmed:

"Yes, it should be a workspace for sculptors. A very powerful spell barrier completely covers the area, and the statues inside were activated by Magic Power, possessing the ability to move on their own. I directly destroyed them all and tore through the barrier to successfully escape."

That makes you quite the exceptional artifact assassin...

Ronald internally remarked, but mostly worried about his companion’s situation.

Taking Costate along, he continued walking outside, chanting spells:

"Its name is Styx,

The black water flows downward, to the dark and treacherous cliff’s foot."

The black mist of Hell emerged, and the power of original sin unfolded instantly.

Ronald expanded and precisely honed his perception of human emotions as much as possible.

But results were disappointing.

The city was already filled with invisible and intangible signs of human activity, directly interfering with Ronald’s perception of other people.

Even with his careful effort.

He still could not locate Martha within the city.

Only individuals like Costate, with whom he had a direct and intimate connection, could use their link to track each other’s location.

"Costate, my spell is largely ineffective for large-scale exploration. Do you have any ideas?"

Ronald asked casually, knowing Costate didn’t have such capabilities either. But to show her usefulness to Ronald, the maid readily recited a spell:

"This argument is based on the fact that such continuous events align with a series of tests!"

"..."

Ronald knew Costate pretty well; he vaguely remembered this spell had nothing to do with finding people.

But out of trust for the maid.

He watched Costate’s actions quietly, waiting for her to deliver a result.

However, after a few seconds, both blinked, neither speaking.

Ronald had to ask:

"Did your spell yield any results?"

Costate honestly replied:

"We can start moving right now! Just doing something increases the probability of running into others in the city!"

"..."

Indeed, it was that probability-altering spell.

The reality is—

Both Ronald and his servant felt somewhat at a loss with the situation.

Even though Costate used an effective spell, directly encountering enemies in such a vast city... even with increased probabilities, it was practically insignificant.

Fortunately, Ronald wasn’t just wandering aimlessly.

Besides the plan set before entering the Holy City, he had a new target:

"Since we need to act, let’s head to the city library first, there must be things worth investigating."

The maid naturally had no objections to Ronald’s decision.

On the contrary, her growing curiosity led her to ask more than she used to when directly following orders:

"Sir, is there something in this city’s library that you need?"

Ronald directly informed Costate of his recent experiences during the temple trials.

Finally summarizing:

"The apparition of the cathedral’s sages has no reason to deceive me."

"So in this city’s library, I feel there’s a high probability of something helpful for our mission."

With her curiosity satisfied, Costate no longer spoke, instead stepping forward to walk in front of Ronald.

Her gesture was clear in its intent, offering to scout ahead.

Should danger arise in the city, or should those from the "Nine Commandments Meeting" launch a surprise attack on them, Costate walking ahead would evidently shield her master from the first wave of attacks.

"Cost..."

Ronald was about to speak, trying to move Costate behind him.

Despite considering his strength and emotions, he didn’t want Costate hurt.

But then he saw the serious and resolute determination in the maid’s eyes, a decision difficult to reconsider.

Ronald hesitated.

Ultimately, he didn’t speak, tacitly accepting Costate’s autonomous intention to explore on his behalf.
