Chapter 224: Chapter 225: Half Step
The mind space was running as usual.
Fights continued in the combat zones. The academic corner was busy with scholars discussing theories and comparing notes. The overall atmosphere had changed a little over the past month. The preparation phase was ending, and the real thing was getting closer. People were pushing themselves harder than they had two weeks ago. The energy in the collective dimension felt tighter and more focused.
Wukong had been training harder every day for the past month.
The energy for his breakthrough to the Multiversal Realm was already accumulated. Energy was never his bottleneck. The bottleneck had always been the comprehension of rules. A pseudo rule was forming at the edge of his understanding. It took shape slowly under the constant pressure of fighting beings who pushed him from every angle.
It completed in the middle of a fight.
It did not happen with a flash or a loud sound. It simply finished. The last piece of understanding clicked into place the way comprehension always did — without warning, while he was in the middle of something else.
He stopped mid-move. The person he was fighting backed away quickly. They could feel the change in his presence right away.
The pseudo rule was not complete. It was only a fragment of something bigger — a partial truth about a deeper law. It was real and it worked, but it was not whole. In Runar’s universe they would call it a pseudo principle. It was enough to trigger the breakthrough, but not enough to finish the crossing.
The energy released all at once.
The full accumulation of everything he had been building toward came out in a single wave. The mind space received it the way a structure receives a sudden load it wasn’t designed for. The collective dimension strained. The edges flickered. Several fights stopped mid-exchange as the participants felt the instability.
Then everyone present pushed more power into the maintenance simultaneously. The dimension steadied. The rules of the shared space returned to normal.
The wave settled.
Wukong stood in the center of it, changed.
---
The change was not just in power. It was in nature.
Half of what he was had crossed a categorical line. He was no longer a pure energy lifeform. Half of him had become an information lifeform — the pseudo rule’s incompleteness meant the transition had stopped at the midpoint, but the half that crossed was real and fully functional.
Half energy lifeform. Half information lifeform.
The information half changed everything about how he perceived the world.
The first thing he noticed was the stillness.
Everything around him had slowed to almost a complete stop. Not actually stopped — everything was still moving at its real speed. But his perception had accelerated so far past that speed that fast no longer registered as fast. He watched Thor complete a strike that should have taken a fraction of a second and saw every stage of it with complete clarity. Nothing blurred. Nothing compressed.
His computational power had expanded past anything he could have produced through energy cultivation alone. He looked at two cultivators mid-exchange nearby and understood everything about the fight in a single instant — the angle, the weight, the gap between them, the three most likely responses from each side and the probability of each. He had all of it before either of them completed their next breath.
The second thing he noticed was location.
He could feel William’s origin core. Not vaguely — precisely. A specific point in the fabric of this universe, present in his awareness the way a sound is present when it’s close enough to feel in your chest. He had always known the universe had a core. He had never been able to locate it directly.
He could point at it now without looking.
And through that same awareness he felt William himself — as a location within this universe. A being he could now sense the position of directly.
He noted that William had almost certainly felt the breakthrough from his side.
He was right.
---
On the other side of the universe, William’s attention shifted the moment the energy wave settled.
He had felt the breakthrough clearly — a significant power event, significant enough that he extended his perception toward it without thinking. He read what had happened quickly.
Half step Multiversal. Pseudo rule comprehension. Partial information lifeform transition.
He held the reading for a moment.
*The monkey,* he thought. He had identified Wukong during the migration and filed him as the most significant native power in the connected universe at the time. The gap between that level and his universe’s upper ceiling had been substantial.
It had narrowed.
Not closed. A pseudo rule was not a real rule and a half step was not a full crossing. The ceiling of this breakthrough was real but limited. Still — the direction was clear.
*Close,* William thought. *But only half step.*
He withdrew his attention and returned to what he had been doing.
---
The reaction spread through the gathering in different ways.
The fighters felt it as a clear shift. Wukong’s presence was different now — not fully Multiversal but close enough that everyone who had been using him as a sparring reference point began quietly reassessing.
Thoth and the scholars analyzed it calmly. Half step breakthrough via pseudo rule, partial information lifeform transition, what the ceiling of that level actually was. Thoth was already writing before the dimension had fully stabilized.
Odin stayed quiet. He had been working toward something himself and watching Wukong’s path complete — even partially — told him something about his own direction that he filed away without sharing.
Ares stepped forward. "Fight me."
Wukong looked at him. "You’re sure."
"Yes."
The exchange was short. Ares fought with everything he had and landed 0 real hits. But the gap was obvious now. Wukong perceived every movement before it arrived and redirected it with minimum effort. Where he had previously needed to actively work against Ares’s martial pressure, he now simply saw where it was going and was somewhere else.
The fight ended.
Ares stood in the aftermath breathing hard, his expression not frustrated but focused. "What did that feel like?" he asked.
"The world stopped," Wukong said. "I could see everything before it arrived."
Ares absorbed this. "That’s not fair."
"No," Wukong agreed. "It isn’t."
Fighting a Universal lifeform now would be manageable. That was the honest word for it. Not effortless — a strong Universal lifeform was still strong — but his perception processed every variable before the other party completed a single movement. The frame of the contest had changed completely.
He thought about Runar’s eyes.
He had seen them during the migration — the Myriad Genesis Eye open at full depth, looking at the wormhole’s structure. He had felt what that gaze carried. A real rule, not a pseudo one. Complete and operating at a depth that made what Wukong now had feel like the first Chapter of a much longer book.
He would never forget what it felt like to be perceived by that.
*That’s what a real rule is,* he thought. *What I have is the introduction.*
He wasn’t frustrated by this. The half step was real. The power was real. The pseudo rule would complete when his comprehension deepened enough to reach the full truth behind the fragment he had grasped. There was no forcing that.
He looked at the wormhole’s glow visible through the mind space’s boundary.
One month.
He turned back to the combat zone, found the fight most likely to push his comprehension further, and walked toward it.
