Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Merger & The Universal Announcement
The migration had succeeded.
The last celestial bodies crossed through the wormhole cleanly. No fanfare. They simply passed through, the trailing edge of the solar system sliding into the testing dimension with the same steady calm that had defined the entire transit. The tunnel held. The structure didn’t collapse. The numbers in Runar’s chip came back clean.
He lowered his hands.
The Myriad Genesis Eye dimmed as he pulled his perception back inward. The wormhole still glowed ahead of him — silver and gold, vast and permanent now, stabilized under the combined authority of two Universal Wills. It no longer needed his support.
He let out a slow breath.
Beside him, Orion stood quietly, watching the last of the Dyson Swarm’s trailing units clear the threshold. He didn’t say anything for a moment.
Neither did Runar.
"It’s done," Orion said.
"It’s done," Runar agreed.
Then Orion’s form began to change.
A shimmer spread across him, starting at the edges and moving inward. What had been a solid presence started dissolving — motes of golden light drifting upward from his fingers, his shoulders, the crown of his head.
"It’s time," Orion said. He was still smiling.
Runar stepped forward and opened his arms.
The golden motes flowed to him without resistance. There was no collision, no struggle between two souls. Orion simply came home. All of it — the memories, the power, the years of experience — poured in cleanly.
Then Runar cells started shaking.
Every individual cell in his body registered the new energy simultaneously, recalibrating and expanding. The star cluster-level power that had defined each cell until now upgraded rapidly. Galaxy-level. Clean and stable, without any of the turbulence that usually accompanied that kind of leap. His Rule-light body grew denser and more refined. His spiritual sea expanded — deeper, wider, richer than anything he had built through cultivation alone. The harmony between body, Qi, and soul reached a point he hadn’t touched yet.
He stood still with his eyes closed, letting everything settle.
When he opened them, Crimson Lotus and Eternal Scholar were staring at him.
Crimson Lotus recovered first.
"He absorbed his other self," she said quietly. "And his energy quality — it’s already approaching ours. He went from Early Quasar to the threshold of Universal in a single integration."
Eternal Scholar didn’t respond immediately. He stood with his arms folded, his expression doing a poor job of hiding that what he had just witnessed had rattled him.
"The Principle in his eyes is stronger," he said. "I noticed it the moment he opened them."
Crimson Lotus nodded. She kept looking at Runar. "In all my years, I have never seen someone advance this cleanly at this speed. No instability. No resistance. It integrated like it had already been his."
"Because it had," Eternal Scholar said quietly.
They were both silent.
Crimson Lotus thought: If he reaches the Universal Realm, the balance of power in this universe shifts. Everything shifts. She wasn’t sure yet whether that frightened her or excited her. Possibly both.
Eternal Scholar thought about the tournaments that would come with the inter-universal exchange. The new Principles entering their origin. The next generation of geniuses born with access to cultivation systems no one here had ever touched. He thought about Runar standing at the center of all of it, barely past young adulthood by the standards of their lifespan, already where he was standing.
"We should not be in his way," Eternal Scholar said.
Crimson Lotus said nothing. She agreed.
Runar’s first thought, once he was sure the integration was stable, was Celestia.
He reached out through the soul link.
I’m coming back. And I will be bringing some friends
Her presence arrived in his mind, calm and warm. What happened? Did the migration complete?
Yes. Fully stable. He paused. I already absorbed Orion.
A brief silence on her end.
Already? I wanted to meet him first. See what you looked like.
Runar almost smiled. We look the same.
You just said you absorbed your other self. You can’t have looked the same.
We didn’t, originally. It wasn’t my body. But when my soul replaced his, the body started changing to match my features. And Cultivation only accelerated the process. By the end, we were identical.
Another pause. Then, with a faint note of genuine disappointment: What a shame. I had questions for him.
You can ask me. I have all his memories.
It’s not the same, she sent simply. Then: Come back. And bring whoever you’re planning to bring.
He closed the link.
Getting to Earth took less than a second from where he stood in the testing dimension. He opened a space tear, stepped through into the upper atmosphere, and oriented himself by instinct — the planet’s energy signature was familiar in a way that went deeper than memory, closer to muscle memory, the kind of recognition that lived in the soul rather than the mind.
New Geneva sprawled below him, lit up even now, the city’s lights visible from this altitude like a second set of stars spread across the ground. He could feel the population density, the movement of billions of people who had spent the last several hours watching the sky and waiting. The broadcast feeds were still running. He’d caught fragments of them through various channels during the migration — crowds gathered in public squares, live commentary from news platforms, the noise of an entire civilization watching itself move.
He dropped through the atmosphere and landed outside the estate.
The house was quieter than the city. The security system registered him and stood down. Inside, Cassia and Nyla were in the main hall — they had clearly been monitoring the migration feeds and hadn’t gone to sleep, which he had expected.
Cassia looked up the moment he walked in. She read his face before he said anything.
"It worked," she said.
"All of it," he confirmed.
She stood up, and for a second she just looked at him — taking stock, the way she always did when he came back from something dangerous, making sure the person standing in front of her was actually intact. Then she crossed the room and pulled him into a hug that was brief but firm.
Nyla stayed where she was and smiled. "You look different."
"I absorbed Orion."
She tilted her head. "So there’s only one of you now."
"There was always only one of me," he said. "Now we’re in the same place."
She accepted this without further questions, which was one of the things he appreciated about Nyla. She processed quickly and moved on.
"Are we going now?" Cassia asked.
"Now," he said.
He opened a portal directly to the pavilion in the academy. The three of them stepped through.
Celestia was standing when they arrived.
She had sensed them before the portal finished opening — her perception at this level was sharp enough that she probably knew the exact number of people coming through. Her eyes moved to Runar first, a quick assessment, confirming what the soul link had already told her. Then she looked at Cassia and Nyla.
Cassia stepped forward before anyone spoke. "So you’re the one who stole his heart in this universe. It’s nice to finally meet you."
Celestia’s expression was composed, but her mouth moved slightly. "I’m not sure he’d describe it that way."
"He wouldn’t," Nyla agreed. "He’d say something careful about it. But we know him." She smiled. "You’re even more beautiful than he described. I’m glad he has someone like you."
Celestia blushed.
Runar noticed. He had watched Celestia hold herself steady through situations that made most people’s voices shake. She blushed now, meeting two women she had only known as names and fragments of stories, and for a moment she looked completely unguarded.
She stepped forward and hugged them both. Cassia made a small sound she covered by immediately starting to talk. Nyla hugged back warmly and said something quiet near Celestia’s ear that made Celestia pull back and look at her with an expression Runar couldn’t fully read.
Then Celestia laughed. Easy and genuine.
Runar stayed near the doorway and watched. He had been building toward this for a long time — not this specific moment, but the thing underneath it. Everyone who mattered, in the same universe, in the same room.
It was a quiet feeling. Large and quiet at the same time.
Within a few minutes the three of them were deep in conversation about his training habits. He caught his name twice and decided not to ask.
Then Willith spoke.
Her voice didn’t travel through air. It arrived in every mind in the universe simultaneously — not loud, not intrusive, just present.
Attention, all lifeforms. In three months’ time, an inter-universal cultural exchange will be held. All are invited. Gather at the following dimensional coordinates at the appointed time.
The coordinates followed. Then silence.
Then the universe erupted.
In the Prime Origin Academy, a Foundation realm student dropped his training stance mid-form. The girl beside him grabbed his arm. "Did that just —"
"Inter-universal exchange," he said.
"Inter-universal exchange," she repeated.
Three seconds later the entire training ground was noise.
In a remote mountain cultivation dimension, an elder who had not opened his eyes in forty million years opened them. He sat still for a long moment. Then he stood and began packing.
In a crowded planetary city, an old Universal-level cultivator stood in the middle of a plaza while people buzzed and shouted around him. He didn’t reach for anything. He just laughed — deep and full, startling the people nearest to him. He had lived through the long quiet. He had watched the universe hold its breath for longer than most civilizations had existed.
"After trillions of years," he said. "Finally. Something exciting."
Runar stepped out of the pavilion and leaned against the outer wall. His Eye activated.
The wormhole was visible from here — permanent now, the silver-gold light steady. No longer the fragile structure they’d been racing to maintain but something built to last, with two Universal Wills layered into its foundation.
He thought about the exchange. The cultivators from William’s universe arriving with Laws and Principles no one on this side had encountered. The collision of two completely different cultivation systems and what it would produce. The next generation who would grow up with access to all of it from the start.
He thought about Wukong on the other side, training toward a breakthrough. We’ll drink and fight again someday.
Celestia came out and stood beside him.
"They’re comparing notes," she said.
"About me."
"Cassia has stories I hadn’t heard."
"Of course she does."
Celestia looked at the wormhole. After a moment she said, "She loves you very much. Both of them do."
"I know," he said.
They stood there quietly.
"It worked," Celestia said.
"It worked," he said.
She looked at him. "What now?"
Runar looked at the permanent bridge between two universes, glowing steady in the distance.
"Now it actually starts," he said.
