Chapter 138: Chapter 137: Return of North Mountain
The surrounding water of the Cold Pool was bone-chilling. Wen Qingye knew he shouldn’t linger, but the water’s extreme cold felt peculiar. ’Could there be a Water of Heaven and Earth here?’ he wondered.
Spirit Dew was also a Water of Heaven and Earth, but this was a Cold Pool. Whatever was here wouldn’t be as gentle as Spirit Dew. Still, if he could obtain this place’s Heaven and Earth Skill, he could trade it with Qig Mountain Academy for more Spirit Dew.
WHOOSH—
Suddenly, Wen Qingye felt a jolt of alarm. A sense of extreme danger was drawing near.
’Not good!’
In the distance, a black dot appeared. It shot through the water at an incredible speed, hurtling toward him.
Wen Qingye swam upward as fast as he could, but the black dot was faster. The gap between them closed rapidly.
Wen Qingye finally saw what it was. The monster before him had the body of a fish, but it had grown four limbs. Its massive maw opened to reveal sharp teeth that were chilling to behold, and its entire body radiated a violent aura.
Wen Qingye knew at once that this monster was far more formidable than the Black Vulture. He had to get out of here, fast.
The monster was about to catch him. It opened its great maw and lunged for his leg.
Wen Qingye immediately spun around, dodged to the side, drew the One Thought Sword from his back, and slashed at the monster’s body.
SLICE!
His sword struck the monster, parting its flesh as a green liquid oozed from the wound.
Wen Qingye knew this was only due to the sharpness of his sword. The keenness of his Primordial Qi alone would never have been enough to break through the monster’s hide.
Day and night, this monster had been subjected to the influence and pressure of the Dragon Scale, causing its body to mutate in some way. It was an astonishing thing to witness.
Wen Qingye’s strike failed to stop the monster; instead, it only fueled its ferocity. The creature continued its charge.
’Just a little longer and I’ll reach the shore,’ Wen Qingye thought, gritting his teeth as he looked ahead.
He was constantly entangled with the monster, twisting and turning. The surface was only a few dozen feet away, but he couldn’t seem to reach it. Every moment was fraught with danger, and the monster nearly caught him several times.
Dragon Scale!
Suddenly, Wen Qingye stopped and took out the Dragon Scale.
When the monster saw the Dragon Scale, it froze. An innate pressure began to emanate from the scale, slowly bearing down on it.
The monster’s body thrashed about restlessly, its eyes locked on Wen Qingye, revealing its agitation. Yet, it didn’t dare to advance a single step.
Seeing the monster halt, Wen Qingye knew it was deterred by the Dragon Scale’s pressure and didn’t dare approach. He breathed a sigh of relief.
Protected by the Dragon Scale’s residual might, Wen Qingye continued to swim downward, searching for the Water of Heaven and Earth.
Seeing Wen Qingye descend, the monster swayed its body and trailed behind him, clearly unwilling to give up so easily.
This Cold Pool’s water was so frigid; there had to be something strange about it. Wen Qingye swam toward the coldest area.
Before he knew it, he felt the cold seeping deep into his organs. He quickly circulated his Longevity Technique to expel the chill.
With the Longevity Technique circulating, he felt much better.
Pinpricks of starlight appeared ahead, seemingly floating in the water. The endless cold was emanating from them.
"Star Cold Water!"
Wen Qingye grabbed at the starlight and smiled as he looked at the liquid in his hand.
This Star Cold Water was a Water of Heaven and Earth ranked 217th, even higher than Spirit Dew. Star Cold Water generally didn’t mix with ordinary water, which was why Wen Qingye could simply grab it.
An intense cold permeated Wen Qingye’s body. He immediately found a small vial in his Sumeru Mustard Seed and slowly transferred the Star Cold Water into it.
Star Cold Water had two uses. First, it could neutralize scorching heat; it could extinguish even the flames at the heart of a volcano in an instant. Second, it was an attractant. Star Cold Water was fatally alluring to Demon Beasts, making it a wondrous item for luring them.
Next, Wen Qingye continued to collect the surrounding Star Cold Water. The monster nearby could only watch with wide eyes, not daring to cross the line. As Wen Qingye collected the Star Cold Water, the pool’s temperature slowly began to rise.
Wen Qingye collected all the Star Cold Water, filling the small vial about halfway.
He put the vial away, then turned and swam upward. The monster watched his ascent with seeming reluctance, spun around a few times, and then finally departed.
SPLASH!
Wen Qingye emerged from the pool and used his Primordial Qi to instantly steam his clothes dry.
The moonlight was still hazy. The melodious flute song and the beautiful woman were gone, as if it had all been an illusion.
Wen Qingye took out the Eight Trigrams Disc and studied it for a moment, but found nothing unusual. He glanced around before finally heading toward the karst cave.
Passing through the brilliantly colored cave, Wen Qingye looked at the two skeletons and shook his head. "It seems the two of you had a worthy death. You didn’t live your lives in vain."
With that, Wen Qingye left the karst cave.
When he emerged from the dense forest, he heard a great commotion around him, like a riot.
’A beast tide?’
Wen Qingye quickly held his breath. At that moment, avian Demon Beasts were circling in the sky while other Demon Beasts swarmed the ground. None of them were weak; some had even reached the Refining Spirit Seventh Layer Heaven.
It was hard to imagine that such ferocious Demon Beasts existed on North Mountain, and that for so many years, they had all chosen to remain dormant.
But now that Wen Qingye had taken the Dragon Scale, all the Demon Beasts on North Mountain had erupted into a frenzy.
The wind rose and clouds surged as chaos reigned.
The very earth seemed to tremble. The air was thick with the scent of blood and slaughter.
Vicious fights began to break out among the Demon Beasts. There was no way North Mountain could accommodate so many of them, especially since some had extraordinarily high cultivation.
Wen Qingye hid in a corner, carefully avoiding the battles.
The Demon Beasts seemed to have lost all reason, knowing only how to slaughter. Wen Qingye knew this was because they had been suppressed by the Dragon’s Might for too long, and their innate ferocity was now erupting completely.
The world turned dark and grim, bloody and violent.
The roars of Demon Beasts constantly assaulted Wen Qingye’s ears, and the entire North Mountain was saturated with the stench of blood.
’These Demon Beasts are so violent. It seems I must suppress and scatter them,’ Wen Qingye thought, his eyes narrowing.
He drew his Ancient Moon Sword, which unleashed a stunning divine light that shot straight into the heavens.
CLANG!
The divine light then struck the peak of North Mountain, and the Ancient Moon Sword embedded itself there.
Instantly, a terrifying presence spread out, sharp and unrivaled, washing over the surroundings in waves.
The surrounding Demon Beasts all froze. Sensing the aura from the mountaintop, they paused for a moment before frantically scattering in all directions.
Wen Qingye had attached a sliver of his Sword Force to the Sword Body, blanketing the entire northern peak.
A single sword to suppress all of North Mountain!
’North Mountain is itself again,’ Wen Qingye murmured as he reached the foot of the mountain, gazing up at the peak, still roiling with chaos.
