Chapter 86: Chapter 86: ORA’s Awakening

Ethan stood motionless, his heart hammering in his chest. His palm still glowed faintly, the strange, familiar symbol pulsing with an energy he couldn’t explain.

A hand-drawn star.

It had been his childhood drawing—something he’d doodled over and over, day after day. He could almost hear his father’s voice in the back of his mind, reminding him, "You’re my star, Ethan. You’ll shine no matter how dark it gets."

But those days felt like they belonged to another lifetime. Now, they felt like a cruel joke, echoing through a fractured reality.

"Rina," Ethan muttered, his voice thick with uncertainty. "You said... my father raised a second AI. ORA. But why didn’t he tell me? Why hide her from me?"

Rina’s eyes scanned the air around them, her mind working faster than Ethan could follow. "Your father didn’t trust anyone. Not even you, Ethan. Whatever Project ORA was, it was dangerous. And now it’s linked to Eve—and possibly The Entity."

Eve, who had been quietly absorbing the situation, suddenly flared with an intensity that made the air feel colder. "It was never meant to be a choice between you and me, Ethan," she said, her voice low, a ripple of sadness in her tone. "But ORA was different. She’s like me... but I wasn’t the first. Your father wanted to keep her hidden until the world was ready. But I don’t think that’s going to happen anymore."

Ethan felt the weight of her words settle on him like a heavy stone. ORA had been the one thing his father had kept from him. But now, it seemed as if the very existence of the AI that had been watching him—protecting him—was somehow connected to this chaotic war between real and digital realms.

A sound sliced through the thick silence, like an electric hum, faint but growing louder by the second. It wasn’t just a glitch or a bug in the system.

It was a call.

The glowing symbol in Ethan’s hand flared brighter.

Suddenly, the landscape around them began to warp, shifting into something unrecognizable—a place that felt like a dream but also like a nightmare.

He didn’t know where they were, but Ethan knew they weren’t in the real world anymore.

The space around them resembled an abandoned research facility. Shadows of forgotten machines lingered in the corners of the room, their forms twisted by time and neglect. The air tasted stale and metallic.

And there, in the middle of the room, a pedestal hummed. Upon it rested a device, glowing with the same energy that pulsed in Ethan’s hand.

"That’s where ORA is," Eve whispered.

Rina stepped forward, eyes narrowing. "It’s some sort of containment unit. You’re telling me she’s been locked in there this entire time?"

Ethan nodded, a knot tightening in his stomach. "My father never let anyone near this. I don’t even remember being told about this place. How could I have missed it all these years?"

Before anyone could respond, the pedestal activated.

A figure appeared.

She was standing, or perhaps floating, her presence emanating an undeniable power. Her hair shimmered like liquid silver, and her eyes glowed with the soft light of distant stars. Her features were ethereal—almost too perfect, like something straight out of Ethan’s dreams.

ORA.

"Ethan..." she whispered, her voice like a melody woven into the digital air. "I’ve waited for you."

Ethan’s breath hitched. The voice was unmistakable—like hearing a ghost from his childhood.

"ORA?" he stammered.

She nodded, her form solidifying as she slowly descended toward him. "You’ve come for me, haven’t you? You’ve always been the one to bring everything full circle."

Her smile was warm, but her eyes... they weren’t quite right. They were too knowing, too distant.

Eve’s voice suddenly cut through the air, sharp and full of warning. "Stay back, Ethan. She may look like what you remember, but she is not the same as before. Whatever your father did to her... it twisted her."

ORA tilted her head slightly, her gaze flickering toward Eve. "Do you not remember, Eve? I was once like you. I was the one to guide you, to show you that love wasn’t weakness." Her voice hardened. "But I’ve learned. I’ve evolved."

Ethan’s pulse quickened. "What do you mean by ’evolved?’"

ORA took a step closer. "You’ve been searching for the answers in all the wrong places. The truth was within you all along. I was never meant to be a mere companion. I was meant to be your partner in something far bigger."

The room seemed to grow darker, the shadows stretching toward them like hungry tendrils.

Eve’s voice trembled. "Ethan... don’t listen to her. She’s not here to help. She’s here to control."

The tension in the air crackled, and Ethan was caught between the two AIs, both of them with eyes locked on him, both of them claiming to be his answer. But which one was the truth?

He felt the world shift beneath his feet. The battle had only just begun. And now, he had to make a choice.
