Chapter 288: Chapter 286
Chapter 286
"Ugh...."
Slowly opening her eyes, Trisha was seen blinking rapidly as if trying to make out exactly where she was.
The world was much darker than it had been a few moments ago when she had been fighting.
"....?!"
Groaning loudly, she tried getting up when she touched the ground beneath her and noticed that the texture was far rougher than before.
’Huh?’
She was about to spring to her feet when a familiar voice broke through the quiet air.
"You need to stop moving recklessly."
"Has she woken up?"
"...?!"
Looking toward the direction where the voices came from, she blinked repeatedly but was completely unable to see anything.
Lifting her gaze up into the sky, she finally realized why she was met with total obscurity.
It was already nighttime.
That was why the whole world was pitch dark.
Looking back toward the voices, she frowned a bit in the gloom.
"Chloe? Is that you?"
The archer smiled from the distance where she stood, unable to walk forward easily due to the absolute darkness enveloping the peak.
"Yes. I’m so glad that you are finally fine. I was so worried as you remained unconscious throughout the whole day. I genuinely thought you might not wake up for a while."
"Hmph."
’Huh?’
Realizing something odd, the girl began rapidly touching her body from head to toe, and that was precisely when she noticed it.
She was completely healed?
The severe injuries she had received around her shoulder and midsection were all gone.
But how?
No wonder she wasn’t feeling incredibly sore like she had originally expected.
After resting, she felt totally rejuvenated, and even her drained meta-force was now filled to the brim.
"I healed you."
Lifting her head in the direction that specific voice came from, her frown deepened.
"Ray?"
"Yeah."
’Oh. So I hadn’t been imagining things back then.’
Relaxing for just a bit, she allowed the remaining tension in her muscles to leave for a second as she rubbed her neck tiredly.
’Wait. Seriously? No ’thank you’ at all?’ Ray screamed inwardly as he looked in the girl’s direction.
The girls were basically blind in the dark at the moment, but the same couldn’t be said for the Tribrid.
He could see everything as clear as day.
Currently, they were perched on another high hill close to the area where Trisha had been fighting before falling unconscious.
After Ray had caught her, he had laid her gently on the ground, waiting for several minutes while thinking she would wake up at any moment.
But she hadn’t.
Thinking that maybe her deep wounds were the primary cause of her prolonged slumber, he had gotten to healing them, which unfortunately meant he had to touch her to channel his energy.
He healed her and watched the healthy color return to her face while Chloe went around looking for the beast cores inside the dead monsters.
Minutes quickly turned into hours.
Upon noticing that a few more aggressive beasts were heading directly toward their previous location, he had decided to find the closest high hill they could take shelter on for the night.
Which was exactly how they found themselves here at the moment.
Thinking that she might not wake up for a few days or so, Ray had decided they would just camp out here for a while.
But the girl proved him completely wrong by waking up just a few hours later.
And since he wasn’t particularly that deeply close to either of the girls, he chose to sit a fair distance away from them.
Trisha was laid in the center of the platform where Ray’s eyes could reach easily.
Chloe sat a few paces away while facing her roommate’s body, regardless of whether she could actually see through the night or not.
They had wanted to give the resting girl enough space to breathe and not crowd her, hence the deliberate spacing.
While the Tribrid actually had his back turned to her before, his gaze had been fixed straight ahead at the valley that was now teeming with more powerful beasts.
He had been completely lost in his own thoughts before feeling the subtle vibration in the air, forcing him to turn around to see that the girl was already waking up.
And that was exactly how they found themselves in this current situation.
Seeing as the hill was now silent, Ray heaved a sigh of relief and was about to begin conversing with the others in his head when Chloe spoke up.
"So... we were really thrown into different places by the gate, huh? But what was that? Before we got sucked in, I saw the gate change color from blue to red. What does that mean?"
"...."
Ray just shrugged.
He knew nothing.
Before coming to the Corps, he knew absolutely nothing about gates.
And it seemed like Instructor Sony had failed to educate them about the Red Gates, or he had just thought it wasn’t important at the time.
"Wondering why it happened won’t help us survive this," Trisha coldly uttered as she kept rubbing her shoulder—silently amazed that it was truly healed.
She never knew that werewolves had the ability to heal others like that.
"... What matters is that we need to find a way to escape from this place. This world is extremely dangerous, and by what we have already noticed, it doesn’t follow the norms and rules we know of gates and beast worlds."
"...."
"I’m curious about something," Ray began as he turned around to look at the two girls.
"How did you both end up together? I fell alone, so how did you two get together? Also... where had you both been going when I encountered you?"
"..."
Several seconds that were beginning to stretch into minutes passed as Trisha offered no immediate reply to Ray’s question.
Chloe had been waiting for the girl to answer, but on seeing that she wasn’t going to say anything, she just heaved a tired sigh and decided to reply herself.
"I don’t know. All we know is that we got ejected out of the gate together. And the moment we did, we were immediately attacked by a King-rank beast."
Ray’s eyes widened in horror at Chloe’s words.
’How had they survived that?’
Thinking for several seconds, she added:
"But for some reason, the beast was already injured. Though not that grievously. We fought it with all we had, especially since we had already been running incredibly low on energy and MF. It was the exact same beast that injured Trisha’s shoulder and abdomen."
"How did you both survive such an encounter?"
"Well, it was all luck," Chloe laughed weekly.
"And mostly Trisha. She injured it more than ever and as if afraid, it ran away from us and therefore escaped."
"....?!!!"
