Chapter 174: Chapter 95: South Sea Incident, Mechanical Energy

The thick stench of blood permeated the wasteland, where the headless bodies of Wilderness Wolves lay upon the ground.

Elegant, effortless!

Over a hundred Wilderness Wolves had been killed in this bizarrely elegant fashion, leaving the handful of onlookers completely stunned.

’This... Is he even human?!’

’With just a lift of his hand, over a hundred Wilderness Wolves died just like that?!’

If they hadn’t witnessed it themselves, who would have dared to believe it?

Even witnessing it firsthand, the entire scene felt dreamlike.

The corpses of the Wilderness Wolves lay on the ground, their blood pooling into large slicks.

Their eyes moved from the Wilderness Wolf corpses in the pools of blood, staring intently at the elegant, composed young man.

’A so-called god probably wouldn’t be much more impressive than this...’

His power made them feel like mayflies gazing upon the vast heavens.

Unfathomable, like an Abyss, with no bottom in sight!

"Brother Duan, long time no see."

Chen Yu stepped forward with a smile, his words pulling the others from their daze.

"Greetings, Lord Awakened!"

Except for Duan Feng and Lola, the others immediately fell to their knees, their faces full of reverence as they spoke in unison.

’Such divine, unpredictable power could only belong to an Awakened.’

’And not just any ordinary Awakened, either!’

"We’re all friends here, no need for such formalities. Get up," Chen Yu said with a smile. As he spoke, a Biological Force Field enveloped the kneeling men and lifted them to their feet.

Feeling that vast, majestic, and formless power, the men were even more stunned. They stood motionless, yet their bodies trembled involuntarily.

"Chen Yu, it’s really you! Hahahaha! Fantastic!" Duan Feng finally snapped out of it and, letting out a booming laugh, stepped forward to pull him into a huge bear hug.

Chen Yu patted him on the back and said with a grin, "Easy there, Brother Duan. Lola might get jealous."

Hearing Chen Yu’s joke, Lola couldn’t help but snort with laughter.

"You brat, making fun of me, are you? I’m not into guys. I only have eyes for Lola," Duan Feng said with a hearty laugh.

Chen Yu smiled.

He was happy to see his old friends again.

’They’re still the same as ever. They haven’t changed at all!’

’That’s great!’

"Chen Yu, thank you. If you hadn’t stepped in, we would have been in serious danger today."

Lola said, looking at Chen Yu with a smile.

"It was nothing, don’t mention it," Chen Yu replied with a faint smile.

"Right, what are you doing here?" Duan Feng asked, having composed himself, his expression one of surprise.

"I’m in Qing City for a mission. It’s for one of my academy courses," Chen Yu said, inventing a casual excuse.

"Oh, I see," Duan Feng said, nodding.

Chen Yu glanced at the Wilderness Wolf corpses on the ground, then turned to Duan Feng. "How did you run into so many beasts?"

’Back when I was a Mercenary, we’d run into beasts in the wilderness, sure, but never this many at once.’

’The Mercenary Teams patrol and clear the area daily. It’s almost impossible for so many beasts to gather in one place.’

"Sigh, you wouldn’t know. All these beasts... they’re connected to the Crane Ridge Anomaly."

Duan Feng said with a sigh.

Hmm?

’Connected to the Crane Ridge Anomaly?!’

Hearing this, Chen Yu’s interest was immediately piqued.

’His assessment is supposed to take place in the Crane Ridge Anomaly. If these beasts are related to it, then the situation there must be serious!’

’Still, for him, this was actually a good thing.’

On the surface, however, Chen Yu remained impassive. He looked at Duan Feng with a surprised expression. "What happened at the Crane Ridge Anomaly? Did something unexpected occur?"

"Yes, something happened. A few days ago, a large number of beasts surged out of the Abyss in the Crane Ridge Anomaly, causing a lot of casualties. That’s why we’ve been spending all our time out in the wilderness, clearing them out."

Lola, who was standing nearby, added, "And I heard from the higher-ups..." She paused, then continued, "These beasts that came from the Abyss might be connected to the Alien Race."

"Connected to the Alien Race, you say..." Chen Yu murmured, his eyes narrowing.

"Chen Yu, it’s not every day you’re in town. As it happens, our patrol is done for the day. How about we head back to the city for a drink?" Duan Feng suggested, looking at Chen Yu.

"Sure, no problem," Chen Yu agreed with a smiling nod.

’When you run into old friends, you have to get together. After all, chances like this might become very rare in the future, or even disappear entirely.’

’In half a year, he’ll be heading to the Stellar Battlefield, and that’s not a trip he’ll be coming back from anytime soon.’

"Haha, great! We’re not stopping till we’re drunk tonight!" Duan Feng boomed with laughter. Then, the group departed.

They climbed into a hidden off-road vehicle. With a roar of its engine, the car sped off toward the Qing City Safety Zone.

...

Back in the Qing City Safety Zone, Chen Yu followed Duan Feng to his Mercenary Squad.

Duan Feng was now the captain of his Mercenary Squad.

And Li Qing had climbed even higher up the ladder, transferred to the main Mercenary Team to serve as Deputy Commander.

His old friends had all made significant progress, and Chen Yu was happy for them.

’Thinking back to his first time here, it now felt as if countless years had passed.’

After they had washed up and changed, Duan Feng sent a message to Li Qing. Upon hearing that Chen Yu was in Qing City, Li Qing agreed to meet without a moment’s hesitation.

They arranged to meet at a restaurant, and soon the group arrived at a private dining room in the city center.

"Chen Yu, long time no see!"

The door to the private room swung open and a voice rang out. It was none other than their former captain, Li Qing, who was now a Deputy Commander.

’His cultivation has reached the Fourth-Rank Martial Artist realm!’

’He’s advancing quickly.’

’Although it’s nothing compared to my own progress, for an ordinary Martial Artist, this speed of advancement is already incredibly fast.’
