Chapter 91: Sling
The question sent a shiver through Denzel as his eyes remained fixed on Sophia while she glared down at him.
At that moment, he couldn’t even say anything.
He was completely caught off guard.
As he looked at her, he thought inwardly,
’She’s home. I was already beginning to think the worst. But hey, at least I don’t get to stroll all over the city late at night when I have a potential target like Patrick on my back.’
But his thoughts were immediately cut short as Sophia walked in, bumping slightly against him as she stepped into the house.
Denzel blinked, snapping back to reality.
He stepped aside and shut the door behind him.
"Sophia, I was really worried—!"
But Sophia immediately cut him off once more as she turned around and glared at him.
"Worried? You?" She scoffed.
"I don’t even know what to say to you Denzel and you honestly can’t even answer my fucking question. After everything you’ve done all you can actually say is that you’re worried about me?"
"After everything I’ve done?" Denzel repeated.
Inwardly, he thought,
’The fuck is this bitch on about?’
"Listen," he said.
"What you saw was a misunderstanding."
"A misunderstanding?" Sophia shot back.
"You seriously want to call drinking our mother’s milk a misunderstanding? I caught you."
"Sucking on her breast. What are you going to tell me? There’s no excuse for that. She’s my mother." She thundered.
"And she’s my mother too." Denzel replied.
"So what? You want to tell me she didn’t properly wean you or something?"
Sophia thundered as she scoffed and shook her head.
Her eyes flickered away for a moment before returning to Denzel.
"You know. I thought we had something."
"I knew you were different but I thought you and me...I thought it was actually special."
Right then, realization hit Denzel.
’Huh? Wait.’
’Is she actually serious right now? I thought she was upset about the entire situation with me and Maria being together.’
’But is she trying to tell me she’s upset because she thinks she caught me with another woman?’
’Does she see it like I cheated on her?’
Seeing this, Denzel scoffed inwardly.
A loud, despicable chuckle echoed within his mind.
’Ha.Ha ha.’
’Ha ha ha ha. Are you for real? This girl honestly surprises me everyHow far.
Without thinking, he took a step closer.
But the moment he did, Sophia took two steps backward, avoiding any contact with him.
Denzel paused.
"Sophia."
"I want you to answer my question. I don’t want you to touch me."
"Why?Why did you do it, Denzel?"
At that point, Denzel clicked his tongue.
Inwardly, he thought.
’Ah. I wanted to use my skill and distort her cognitive thinking. Make a move to earn her trust and forgiveness, for instance.’
’But luckily for her, she’s upset enough to actually go against one of the criteria I need to unlock the skill.’
"Don’t look at me like that," she snapped.
"I saw what I saw."
Denzel exhaled slowly through his nose, then stepped slightly to the side closing the door behind him with a quiet click.
"First," he said calmly.
"You’re upset. I understand that."
Sophia scoffed.
"Upset? You think this is just me being upset?"
"I didn’t say it was nothing,"
Denzel replied evenly. "I said I understand why you feel that way."
"But if we’re going to talk about this," he continued, his voice firming.
"you’re going to listen to everything I have to say first. Without interrupting."
Sophia frowned immediately. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me," he said simply.
Sophia stared at Denzel in silence for a few seconds.
Then she finally let out a small, controlled breath, as if forcing herself to stay calm.
"Umm...uhh! fine." she muttered.
"All right. Well then, talk. I’m all ears, Denzel."
Denzel paused for a moment, taking a short breath as he straightened his resolve.
"If you want to know what happened well, the truth is..."
"What you walked into" he said.
"...was nothing romantic at all. You have to understand that I truly only belong to you."
Sophia’s eyes narrowed immediately.
"Do you?" she asked sharply. "Do you really? Because I really have to ask at this point."
Denzel frowned slightly.
"You really asking me that?" he said.
"Of course I-" Sophia snapped.
She held her tongue for a second, then groaned softly in frustration.
Denzel continued.
"I know you’re upset." he said.
"but everything that happened wasn’t intimate at all. She walked into my room and woke me up to get ready for work, because I had asked her to do so. We conversed for just a moment before I got a little playful with her and threw her to the bed..."
"... and I suppose with the way she crashed on the bed, her breasts might have gotten exposed. But believe me..."
Without warning, Denzel stepped forward and grabbed her palm.
"I would never hurt you."
Sophia froze.
"Really? ’Cause it looks alot like you...c-can..." she said, trying to pull her hand away, but he held on firmly.
Their eyes locked.
A faint tremble ran through her body as she stared at him.
Her forehead tightened slightly, heat rising as she struggled between pushing him away and staying still.
Then she finally shoved him back again, breaking the contact.
Denzel, grunting in slight annoyance.
’No no, Denzel...hold your horses...you need to let the bitch rant enough. That way, you can use all this pent up emotion and fuck her senseless.’
"I wasn’t... I know it looked like I was being intimate with her..." he said.
"but I wasn’t."
"She’s our mother, you know?" he added.
"I can’t do that. I don’t know how sick you think I am, but I’m completely normal. The only love I have is for you."
Sophia let out a sharp breath.
Then she scoffed softly.
"That’s... that’s a lie. If you ever loved me you’d never have even let yourself land in such a situation with any woman! That-That is what love is Denzel, so you’re lying.’
Denzel’s eyes narrowed slightly.
He tilted his head a little.
’ This might be a long shot, but I suppose it’s worth the risk...my back was turned against the door, so from her view, it looked as though I was suckling on Maria, but she definitely didn’t see it.’
Sophia stiffened slightly.
"Are you sure that it’s a lie?" Denzel asked.
"What reason would I have to lie to someone I love?"
He held her gaze as he said it, immediately closing the distance between them once more, grabbing her arm tightly.
A low, muttered sound slipped from him.
"Sling."
And right then
A system notification popped up on the side, displaying the text.
