Chapter 115: Handicap

The sounds of birds chirping echoed throughout the forest, while a gentle breeze rustled the branches overhead. Denzel could be seen walking calmly through the secondary forest. As always, he remained completely relaxed, with nothing but silence accompanying him as he continued forward.

As he strolled through the forest, his eyes drifted toward the faint mechanical hologram of the system notification floating beside him.

[Player has completed taboo]

[Player has recieved +10 taboo points.]

At this point, this was exactly what Denzel would have hoped to see.

’Hehe, excellet. Now, let’s allocate these points to Strength.’

Without the slightest hesitation, Denzel allocated the points.

[10 points have been allocated to Strength.]

"Alright then. That takes care of that."

He casually stretched his body as he continued walking.

’My Strength is at one hundred now, so all I need to do is capitalize on it. I already know for sure that I won’t be able to control his ability with my Mana Manipulation, so I’m already at a huge disadvantage. Worst of all, my mana ability isn’t exactly the best thing to use in a fight, I can’t even properly utilize my other skill because all it does is cause him insane pleasure... and I’d rather not see that happen.’

He let out a quiet sigh before continuing onward.

’My only chance now is the plan I managed to come up with. It’s actually pretty simple. Since I’ve maxed my Strength out to one hundred for now, all I can do is hope I can land a knockout. I only need one hit. Just one clean hit that can send him staggering.’

’During our last fight, even with my previous Strength, I was still able to keep up with him, even if it was only by the slightest margin. And when I landed that punch before, I could tell I dealt quite a bit of damage. So with one hundred Strength, I should be able to do even more. But everything depends on whether I can actually land that hit.’

He sighed once more.

’Yeah... that’s going to be the deciding factor. No matter what happens, I have to make sure this doesn’t turn into a long-distance fight. Because the moment it becomes a ranged battle, I’m at a huge disadvantage.’

With that thought, he continued making his way deeper into the forest.

A few moments later, his eyes flickered toward four large fallen trees that had collapsed against one another, forming what looked almost like a natural archway. Thick vines and woodland plants had long since wrapped themselves around the trunks.

His gaze lowered as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the letter Antonia had given him.

Opening it, he read the instructions once again.

"When you see four fallen trees, climb over them and head straight to the clearing. I’ll be there alone, waiting for you."

After reading it, he calmly folded the letter and tucked it back into his pocket.

Without another word, he walked over to the four fallen trees. Just as the letter had described, they were stacked together, creating a narrow passage through them.

He climbed over the trunks, crouching slightly as he squeezed through the tight opening before pushing his way through the thick forest shrubs on the other side.

Finally, he emerged into what appeared to be a large clearing.

The grass was neatly trimmed by nature, barely reaching his ankles, while an open field stretched out before him until the distant horizon disappeared behind another wall of towering forest trees.

However, that wasn’t what immediately caught his attention.

Patrick was already there.

He sat quietly in the center of the clearing with his legs crossed and his hands resting upon his knees, taking slow, measured breaths as though he were deep in meditation.

The moment Denzel saw him, he instinctively paused.

’Patrick is meditating...?’

Only then did Denzel notice that Patrick had already removed his shirt.

For the very first time, he got a clear look at Patrick’s enormous physique. His body was covered in tightly packed muscles that radiated an undeniably intimidating presence.

Denzel quietly took one more step into the clearing.

The instant his foot touched the grass, Patrick slowly opened his eyes.

Without moving from his seated position, Patrick’s calm voice echoed across the clearing.

"You finally came."

Patrick smiled as his gaze settled on Denzel.

Denzel simply stared back at him with a calm, almost docile expression. Despite the relaxed look on his face, however, he wasn’t intimidated by the man in the slightest.

After letting the silence linger for a few moments, Denzel finally spoke.

"I honestly expected you not to keep your word."

Patrick slowly shook his head.

"No. I said I would, and I did. But at this point, I suppose that doesn’t really matter anymore."

Denzel let out a soft hum before replying,

"Hmm... so I figured you chose this place because you don’t want anybody finding out that you’re going to get murdered."

Patrick responded with a quiet chuckle.

"Don’t get so cocky, young one. The only person who’s going to die here is you."

His tone remained completely casual, as though talking about taking someone’s life was no different from discussing the weather.

With a low grunt, Patrick rose to his feet before slowly rolling his neck from side to side. A series of cracks echoed through the clearing as he stretched his body.

Denzel never took his eyes off him.

"How do I know you’re actually alone?"

Patrick finished stretching before turning toward Denzel with a relaxed smile.

"Don’t worry. I came completely alone. There won’t be any need for reinforcements in a fight like this. So... come on then. Let’s get this fight started already."

However...

Patrick wasn’t telling the complete truth.

Hidden deep within the forest surrounding the clearing, perched high upon the branch of a towering tree, was none other than the knight.

She remained crouched on the thick branch, her sword still sheathed but resting within easy reach of her hand.

Her cool, emotionless eyes never left Patrick and Denzel as she silently observed every movement between the two.

One thing, however, was absolutely certain.

The side she intended to support...

Was never Denzel’s.

Little did Denzel know, but he had walked into a handicap.
