Chapter 109: Imagination
There was a strange darkness drifting through Denzel’s mind.
Or perhaps it wasn’t darkness at all.
Maybe it was simply his imagination.
A vast black void stretched endlessly in every direction, swallowing everything around him. It felt cold. Empty. Infinite.
For a brief moment, it seemed as though thousands of voices were whispering within that darkness. Countless echoes overlapped one another, creating an incomprehensible chorus that he couldn’t quite make sense of.
Then, suddenly, one voice rose above the rest.
"Are you serious? You’ve never actually felt the touch of a woman?"
The words cut through the darkness.
A moment later, another voice replied.
The second voice sounded exactly like his own.
"I haven’t. Not really...I really never found a way to do it."
Then the first voice spoke again.
"Do you want to try it out?"
The instant those words were uttered, the darkness shattered.
Denzel felt as though an invisible force had seized him.
The next moment, he was violently pulled forward.
Everything around him exploded into light.
Blink.
A different face.
Blink.
A different place.
Blink.
People he had never met before, not just Maria or Sophia, but so many others.
The scenes flashed past one after another, changing too quickly for him to properly understand.
None of it felt real. Yet somehow... It felt painfully familiar.
And through all those fragmented memories, there was one sensation that stood above everything else.
The touch of a woman.
It was vivid.
So vivid that it almost felt as though he had already lived through these moments before.
Then—
A loud gasp tore from his throat as his eyes snapped open.
For several seconds, everything remained blurry.
His vision swam as he struggled to focus.
Gradually, however, the haze began to fade.
The first thing he saw was a wall.
A plain wall directly in front of him.
His face was pressed against the floor.
Realizing what had happened, Denzel let out a low groan. He pushed himself up from the ground.
As he did, a dull ache spread through his body.
His legs felt weak.
His shoulders were stiff.
Every movement carried a strange heaviness.
’What the fuck happened to me?’
His hand rose instinctively to his head, scratching at his hair.
’How did I get here?’
Judging from the sunlight filtering through the room, it was still early morning.
He couldn’t have been unconscious for very long.
At least, that was what it looked like.
Yet the feeling coursing through him told a completely different story.
His head felt terrible.
Like the aftermath of an intense hangover.
A constant pounding rattled through his skull.
"Ah..."
Denzel groaned. Pressing a hand against his forehead, he slowly massaged it, hoping to ease the throbbing pain.
Then— A voice echoed through his mind. And suddenly—
He remembered. Or at least, part of it.
Fragments resurfaced from the depths of his consciousness.
"You haven’t felt the touch of a woman before."
The words echoed once again.
Instantly, Denzel raised his head.
’That voice...It sounds oddly familiar.’
A strange feeling stirred within him.
’Where have I heard it before?’
Scattered images flashed through his mind.
A woman’s chest...Large breasts.
The image appeared for only an instant before disappearing once more.
Denzel frowned.
’That doesn’t make any sense. I remember seeing it. Or at least... I think I do.’
The memory felt distant.
Ancient.
As though it belonged to someone else.
Yet it still felt familiar.
’Why doesn’t it bother me? None of this makes any sense.’
Slowly, Denzel pushed himself to his feet.
Then suddenly—
He froze.
A chill ran through him.
The events of the previous night came crashing back into his mind.
Tara, and her reddened eyes.
The way she had stared directly at him.
The way her gaze seemed to pierce through everything.
And then—
Her words.
"What are you doing in this world?"
Denzel’s entire body went still.
His heartbeat quickened.
’What am I doing in this world...? How did she know that I reincarnated into this world?’
’Or am I just overthinking it?’
He clenched his jaw.
’No.’
Immediately, he rejected the thought.
Back then, his senses had sharpened.
He remembered it perfectly.
The feeling had been unmistakable.
’I was absolutely certain.’
His expression darkened.
’She was a danger to me.’
Every instinct in his body had screamed it.
Yet—
He was still alive.
Nothing had happened.
At least, not that he could remember.
’But somehow... I’m not dead.’
A disturbing thought suddenly surfaced as his heart skipped a beat.
’So... did I die?’
A cold shiver crawled down his spine.
The possibility sounded absurd.
Impossible.
Yet after everything that had happened since arriving in this world, could he really dismiss it?
His fingers slowly tightened into fists.
’I need to figure out exactly what’s going on.’
His thoughts immediately drifted back to Tara.
’Or rather... I need to figure out exactly what that girl is.’
A chill crept up his spine.
’I don’t know what she did to me, but I need to find out exactly what the hell happened.’
His expression darkened.
’And how long have I been out?’
The thought struck him like lightning.
His eyes widened.
’That’s right. How long do I have until the—’
The thought was cut short.
"Fuck."
A frustrated grunt escaped his lips.
"Fuck. Don’t tell me I fucked myself up."
His mind was already spiraling through one possibility after another, desperately trying to piece together everything that had happened.
Had he lost a day while he was unconscious? Or had he missed the duel.
The more he thought about it, the worse it became.
Then—
His thoughts abruptly came to a halt as something he never expected to see.
A familiar translucent screen materialized in the air.
[Ding!]
The sound echoed softly.
Immediately afterward, several lines of text appeared.
[Congratulations.]
[Player has completed a Taboo.]
[Player has received +50 Taboo Points!]
Denzel froze.
His eyes locked onto the floating words.
For several long seconds, he simply stared, astonished till his core.
"What...?"
The word escaped his lips almost unconsciously.
His voice sounded hoarse.
’+50 Taboo Points?’
The notification replayed itself inside his head.
’I completed a taboo? Who the hell did I sleep with?’
The question appeared instantly.
His mind raced through every possibility he could think of.
Yet none of them made any sense.
His brows furrowed deeply.
’And what the hell is with the fifty points?’
His eyes remained fixed on the notification.
’When I slept with mum, I only got thirty. So why the hell am I getting fifty now?’
The difference wasn’t small.
If the system was rewarding him twenty more points than before, then whatever had happened last night had to be significantly different.
Significantly more important, or significantly more dangerous.
The realization made his stomach tighten.
’What the hell happened while I was unconscious?’
The more he thought about it, the less sense any of it made.
His gaze continued moving down the notification screen.
Then suddenly—
He noticed something else.
A second notification.
Slowly, his eyes moved across the new line of text.
[Player has received the Title: Survivor.]
Silence filled the room.
Denzel stared at the words.
His breathing gradually slowed.
Yet somehow, his unease only grew stronger.
