Chapter 45: Second Trailer

In a small office, the figure of a middle-aged, blond man could be seen seated behind a wooden desk.

In his hand, he held a quill, while facing him was a long parchment.

After the man dipped the quill into the ink, he leaned down and began writing.

"On August 2nd of Year 1453, a large-scale battle took place in Baron Murrow’s former estate."

"One of the parties remains unknown for the time being. As for the other, it has been confirmed they belonged to the Sunless Sect."

"Judging by the traces left in the scene, it has been confirmed that the cultists attempted to perform a Divine Descent Ceremony."

The hand holding the quill paused for a brief moment before resuming its movements.

"It’s suspected that the Divine Descent Ceremony was interrupted by the unknown party. As for their purpose in doing so, the way they achieved this, or their identity, they all remain mysteries."

"As a preliminary judgement, it is estimated that the cultists’ enemies were two."

"One man and one woman. A Fire Mage and an Assassin."

"For document-keeping purposes, the two shall be code-named: ’Fallen Sun’ and ’Moonblade’."

The moment the final word was written down and the man placed the quill back into its stand, the image suddenly shattered as though made out of glass.

Several pictures manifested in its place.

A masked man and a woman jumping over a stone wall and sneaking into a mansion.

The pair taking out several teams of cultists with ease, before finally finding their way within a dungeon.

Eventually, they arrived in an underground chamber under the disguise of captives.

At this point, the pictures turned back into the form of a movie.

The camera focused on the elderly priest and the serpent-like patterns beneath him before panning out to a woman landing behind him and launching a sneak attack.

The following events were familiar.

A golden fireball slammed into the priest, severely injuring him and forcing him into a berserk state where he struck everything around him.

In the end, it took his opponent using a precious one-time-use Relic to truly defeat him after a barrage of powerful skills.

Just as the priest dropped dead and everything should have been over, everything changed once again.

The camera moved onto the patterns again, showing how they devoured the priest’s remains and the fragments of a stone mask.

Then, the ritual circle erupted into light.

The entire image turned white. For a moment, nothing could be seen besides two small lines of text near the top.

"Lost Sun’s Divine Incarnation."

"Possessing unfathomable power. Its descent is enough to destroy a city."

Gradually, the light began to retreat.

When the light faded, the underground chamber was gone.

The same was the case for everything else.

In the scene, the only person standing was a blond, handsome young man with ocean-blue eyes.

His gaze settled on the spot where the Divine Incarnation would have descended, his expression calm and unreadable.

His appearance had remained unchanged from seconds ago, but his demeanor had transformed.

For a fleeting moment, he seemed less like a man and more like something divine.

Then...

The image shattered once more.

"And thus, the journey of the Taboo Arcanist commenced..."

A female voice echoed, soft and melodious.

In a dimly lit room, Aurelius watched speechlessly as the screen slowly went dark and the familiar forum interface appeared in its place.

Below the trailer post that had introduced the Nova Roma Game, a second video had been uploaded.

Aurelius had long expected something similar, especially considering that the Player’s Beta was drawing closer and they would soon descend.

However, what he had never expected was that he would be the protagonist of this trailer too.

Moreover, unlike the previous trailer, which featured several protagonists, this one focused entirely on him.

Recalling the scenes that had played earlier, he was no longer in a rush to check through the notifications of last night’s events.

After casting a glance at the morning sun out the window, he leaned back on his bed and clicked on the post, wanting to go through the comments of this post.

He was curious. What did the Players have to say about this trailer?

Would they be as stunned as he was?

Unfortunately, curiosity often killed the cat.

The moment he opened the pinned post and the first comment appeared, Aurelius’ expression darkened.

"User: AureliusMyLove."

"Noooooo! My husband Aurelius has been stolen by a demoness!"

Although it was merely a message, Aurelius could almost see the desperation of its poster, as though the sky had fallen upon them.

Their conclusion... was actually reasonable.

At least from everything the trailer showed, it made complete sense.

A man and a woman infiltrating the enemy mansion together, fighting fiercely and having the man leave with the wounded woman in his hands.

Whether it was for the male or female Players, this event was akin to putting the label "Couple" on him and Selene.

Of course, Aurelius knew this couldn’t be further from the truth. Selene did not even know his true identity!

Had she known that the mysterious man was Aurelius, she would probably have questioned her entire life.

Suppressing his urge to complain, Aurelius scrolled down the post—not forgetting to press the downvote button while doing so.

Fortunately, following the initial comment, those after it were normal.

Most of them praised the game’s outstanding graphics, talking about how vivid and life-like the battle had been, giving them the illusion that they had personally experienced it.

It was only several comments later that Aurelius saw something different.

Finally, someone mentioned the trailer’s actual events. Or, according to the poster’s words, the so-called "storyline" and "game mechanics".

Looking at the familiar name of TheoryMaster69, Aurelius knew that he was about to read something valuable.

At least for him, the analysis of this well-known Player was far more precious than the praise of the game’s visuals.

Sure enough, from the very first sentence, Aurelius’ interest was piqued.

"Taboo Arcanist!"

"As the number one researcher of Nova Roma, I believe this ought to be the biggest thing in this entire trailer! Just this title holds the greatest mysteries!"
