Chapter 35: [3/21]

Aurelius felt somewhat embarrassed.

Not because of Selene’s scolding, but because...

He had indeed prepared something specifically for this situation. He had simply forgotten to use it.

Even so, with his experience, he was wise enough not to state this aloud, much less apologize for his mistake.

Staring at the spot where he believed Selene should be standing, Aurelius spoke in a harsh voice.

"Of course I’ve come prepared. Do you take me for an idiot?"

"It’s just that I didn’t want to do so unless necessary. Now that the time has come, it’s time to use it."

As he spoke, Aurelius reached into his waist and grabbed another one of the vials.

He unscrewed the cork before letting green liquid flow down his throat.

Instantly, everything in his vision began to change. Things rapidly became clearer, as though he had been nearsighted all along and had only now put on a pair of glasses.

At the same time, the translucent silhouette of a person appeared a couple of feet away. It was originally blurry but quickly turned into Selene.

Her state... was awkward.

Since she was unable to pinpoint his location, she was looking at the place where she believed he should be.

Yet in Aurelius’ eyes, she was merely looking at the empty wall with a profound expression.

This sight, of a cold goddess staring blankly at the wall with a serious look, nearly made him chuckle.

However, he quickly suppressed the impulse to tease her.

He was quite satisfied with the effects of the Eagle Eye Potion.

It deserved to be a recipe that required the killing of several eagle monsters and the use of their blood as ingredients.

Inheriting the eagles’ excellent eyesight, it transformed an Awakener’s eyesight, turning them into a natural Clairvoyant for its duration.

While thinking, Aurelius did not forget to grab a second vial.

Then, he handed it to Selene, who, though surprised, also consumed it without hesitation.

The moment Aurelius’ figure became clear to her, she seemed to have realized her gaffe. Her head moved abruptly to lock on him.

A trace of embarrassment flashed across her cheeks, though she consciously suppressed the impact and quickly regained her composure.

Aurelius captured this change, but he didn’t point it out.

Instead, he focused on the Eagle Eye Potion’s effects.

"The effect of this Potion will last for nine minutes, just enough for the remainder of the two Invisibility Potions."

"We should do our best to eliminate as many cultists as possible during this time."

Seeing Selene nod solemnly as a response, Aurelius glanced at the edge of his vision and saw that the counter had changed accordingly.

"I’ve previously investigated the stronghold and confirmed there are twenty-one members in total. These two, coupled with the man I killed before, make three. There are eighteen remaining."

Aurelius’ cold words, which seemed to regard the cultists as prey to be slaughtered, brought no surprise to Selene.

She didn’t even blink, maintaining a cold expression.

Unlike Aurelius, who previously had some misunderstanding about the cultists, Selene had not.

She was a native of this world and had been involved with the Awakener world since she was a kid.

She had participated in hundreds of Blood Temple missions during this time. Therefore, she had long understood the nature of these cultists.

In her eyes, these people could hardly be considered humans.

At best, they were corrupted beings not any better than ordinary monsters.

"These two said that the Priest is currently underground. I propose we take out the other cultists before trying to fight against him."

"Otherwise, a large-scale battle will surely alarm the others, and we will end up surrounded," Aurelius said.

Selene did not argue. Even if Aurelius hadn’t mentioned it, she would have made a similar plan on her own.

This was the natural thing to do.

In the span of a few seconds, the two had reached an agreement. From then on, neither of them hesitated.

Like a team that had cooperated for a long time, they both rushed toward the building and jumped through the shattered glass window to enter it.

Immediately, a vast corridor entered their sight.

Old, faded paintings hung on both sides of the walls, while withered flowers were placed inside glass vases and rested on the surrounding furniture.

Both Aurelius and Selene were prepared to take a closer look at their surroundings.

But just then, the sound of approaching footsteps reached their ears.

Several voices accompanied it.

"I don’t know what the Priest is thinking. It’s fine if he wants to perform the ceremony alone, but why does he have to forbid us from going outside?"

"That’s right! It’s been several days since I’ve tasted a virgin..."

"How about we kidnap one of the women near the mansion? If we act quickly, no one will suspect us..."

These people were worthy of being cultists.

Within a couple of sentences, the topic of their conversation had gone straight to kidnapping innocent women.

Aurelius noticed that Selene’s body faintly trembled. Although she tried her best to conceal it, it was obvious that the cultists’ words had made her furious.

The result of that fury was soon showcased.

As soon as the cultists took a turn and entered the corridor the two were currently at...

"Pff!"

A muffled scream echoed. One cultist’s throat was cleanly sliced apart, while another one’s heart was penetrated by a dagger.

Before Selene could take action against the last one, however, Aurelius had already appeared beside him.

A silver dagger appeared in his hand and, with practiced precision, was thrust into the cultist’s skull.

[Killed a Level 5 Blighted One. EXP +200]

The notification was like music to Aurelius’ ears.

One of the reasons he hadn’t rushed straight to fight against the Priest was that he hoped to gain enough Experience so that he could upgrade his Level a couple more times.

Thus, no matter how much hatred Selene harbored against these people, there was no way he would allow her to monopolize the spoils.

If anything, Aurelius had to suppress his instinct to yell at her for stealing his kills.

Suppressing these inexplicable thoughts, Aurelius shifted his focus back to reality.

He glanced at Selene, who seemed to have unintentionally stepped on one of the cultists’ heads, and leaned forward while grabbing one of the Potion vials.

Soon, a black liquid dripped out of the glass container.

This time, only a few drops of the Potion were used.

Yet the moment these few drops touched the lifeless corpses, their entire bodies began to melt.

It didn’t take long.

Moments later, the three corpses had vanished.

No traces were left behind. Not even a stain on the carpet.

It was as though they had never been here.

"Corpse-Melting Potion..." Selene muttered, her voice filled with surprise.
