Chapter 33: Massive Strength Increase

Selene was puzzled.

She had already been surprised when the mysterious man had suddenly summoned her to talk.

That surprise turned into shock when he mentioned the reason behind their meeting.

According to the man’s words, he was planning to storm the Sunless Sect’s stronghold tonight.

As for the reason?

The man had kept things simple, stating that he had discovered something incredible and they could no longer wait.

He had merely offered her an invitation, and had not forced her to accompany him.

In fact, Selene’s initial thought was that the man had lost his mind and that she should send him away as soon as possible.

But when she recalled the man’s mysterious nature and methods, and recalled the gravity of the situation, she quickly changed her opinion.

In the end, she chose to follow him.

Not because she agreed with her plans. Rather, because she wanted to convince him otherwise.

"I’m telling you. We can just wait for the reinforcements to arrive!"

"Barging in tonight will only alert the enemy and make destroying the cult more difficult!" Selene tried her best to convince the man before her.

Unfortunately, Aurelius shook his head as a response.

She had tried to make that argument several times before, and he had mostly ignored her words.

But now that things had reached that point and she truly looked ready to enter the stronghold alongside him if he went through with it, Aurelius stopped hiding certain things.

He raised his hand to stop her from speaking. Then, he spoke up,

"The sources behind me have informed me that the Sunless Sect’s plan has reached its final stages. We truly don’t have much time left."

"Let alone waiting for the reinforcements to arrive. Whether we have a few days more is a mystery."

As he spoke, Aurelius reached into his pocket and took out a ring.

On its surface were engraved two celestial bodies.

A silver moon. A dark sun.

Selene immediately recognized its identity. Her expression changed as she understood Aurelius’ implication.

Unknowingly, this man had killed one of the Sunless Sect’s members and obtained one of their signature rings.

Combined with the Barbarian’s death, there were now at least two dead members within the cult.

Even if his words were incorrect and the Sunless Sect’s conspiracy would not commence soon, it ultimately didn’t matter.

It was only a matter of time before the Sunless Sect realized that someone was targeting them.

At that point, they would either flee or, worse, launch the final stage of their plan.

Neither was something Selene wished to see.

Looking at the ring and then at the man standing in front of her, Selene had the urge to curse aloud.

It was her own fault for giving him the Sunless Sect’s information!

However, how could she have possibly known that the other party was a lunatic and he would act without hesitation?

Had she known, she would have kept everything a secret!

Although Selene had many complaints in her heart, she was wise enough not to voice them aloud.

Even so, the alternating expressions on her face made her thoughts clear.

Aurelius offered neither a further explanation nor any comfort.

He couldn’t possibly say that the Player Panel had reminded him of the danger and he had thus been desperate to act.

’In the end, her real thoughts don’t matter as long as she is willing to help.’

’Even at that, the role she will play today will be secondary.’ Aurelius thought, glancing at the Level 13 Assassin interface hovering above Selene’s head.

In the past, the difference between the two had been massive.

Although Aurelius possessed the Arcanist Class and the Base Stat boost provided by the Alchemist Sub-Class, he didn’t know if he could defeat this woman in a real fight.

Selene was not a mindless, reckless monster.

She was a trained assassin, whose combat instincts and experience far surpassed his own.

The gap between them was impossible to bridge merely through a Mythical Class.

However, that was a thing of the past.

Now, the gap between them had narrowed...

... Before widening again.

...

The difference from the Player Panel of a few days ago was massive.

It served as evidence of the crazed manner with which Aurelius had hunted monsters over the last couple of days.

Besides looking for Mia, he had been in the Dryad Forest, slaying monsters, completing minor Missions, and... being on his way to kill another wave of monsters.

The exhaustion had piled up.

Aurelius sometimes wondered whether it would be easier to simply flee rather than continuing this grueling routine.

Thankfully for both him and the city’s residents, he had never given up.

And the information in front of him was the final fruits of his own labor.

’When I was at Level 5, I was able to defeat a Level 12 Black Bear with relative ease.’

’If I went all out and fully unleashed my combat prowess, killing a Level 17 or 18 monster should have been possible.’

’Now, I’ve Leveled Up several times. Both in my Main Class and the Sub-Class.’

’Whether it is my Base Stats or the power of my skills, they have both soared. Killing a Rank 2 monster should be possible...’ Aurelius estimated.

Unfortunately, he had been unable to locate a Rank 2 monster within the Dryad Forest to test the full extent of his strength.

Even if he had, however, it wouldn’t have meant much.

People were people. Monsters were monsters.

Killing a Rank 2 monster was not the same as killing a Rank 2 Awakener.

Besides raw strength, there were many other things that played a role in battles between Awakeners.

Intelligence, luck, mastery over skills...

Even Relics and Potions could very well play a deciding role.

With that thought, Aurelius subconsciously glanced down at his own waist.

There, several vials filled with liquids of all colors could be seen hanging.

He grabbed two of them. Unlike the rest, they were not colorful, but faintly white, almost translucent.

Aurelius kept one for himself. As for the second one, he handed it over to Selene.

"Drink it," he said, as he unscrewed its cork and let the liquid flow down his throat.

Then, in a speed visible to the naked eye, his body began to transform.
