Chapter 16: Trailer
[Moonlight Necklace: A necklace passed down by the previous Blood Temple’s number one Assassin to her daughter. On the surface, it carries no extraordinary power. However, perhaps it may contain certain secrets.]
Aurelius played with the necklace as he went through the description.
Secretly, he was surprised.
Due to his own noble background and Selene’s earlier explanation, he had a rough understanding of the Blood Temple.
This organization recruited assassins from all over the continent, whether it was the Dawn Kingdom he was in, the Seven Seas on the west, or the many tribes scattered along the southern border.
The number of assassins in its ranks could be imagined.
To be able to become the Blood Temple’s number one Assassin, this person’s strength was evident.
The status of Selene, this woman’s daughter, was therefore easy to guess.
’But judging from her current state, the family does not seem to be doing very well?’
’Could it be that her mother has died? Was she bullied within the organization and exiled to work in Blood Sun City?’
Aurelius recalled the several female-led movies he had seen in his previous life and could already imagine the tragic fate of their supposed protagonist.
However, he soon recovered and shook his head.
He then placed the Moonlight Necklace aside.
Though the fact that it held secrets was obvious, it was none of his business for the time being. Rather than pondering over matters he could not solve, it would be better to work to improve his strength.
With that in mind, his gaze moved toward the next item—the crimson gem that the bloody palm had transformed following the Barbarian’s death.
Aurelius had already checked its information before. But just like he had done with the necklace, he decided to take a second glance.
...
[Blood Crown Fragment (Common): A bloody Relic forged using the lives of thousands of people. It grants the user the ability to consume flesh and blood in order to recover from injuries. Long-term activation of this Relic will gradually turn people bloodthirsty.]
[Effects:]
[+4 Vitality, +50 Spirit (Mana)]
[Durability: 250/300]
...
A Relic, similar in rank to the Red Hare Armor he was currently wearing. For any Rank 1 Awakener, its appearance was enough to fill them with joy.
However, Aurelius was far from it.
Looking at the effects and what seemed to be a reminder for him to be careful near the end, his expression turned solemn.
He finally realized why the Barbarian had suddenly gone on a rampage and tried to kill him.
Previously, he thought it was the crazy counterattack of a person destined to die.
Now, he understood the man had a deeper purpose.
He wished to devour his blood and recover from the poison.
As for why he didn’t target Selene, Aurelius suspected that he either needed to keep her alive or was afraid of something behind her.
No matter what, Aurelius deemed this Relic to be utterly useless.
At most, it could be carried on him to improve his Base Stats.
As for activating? He would never do so unless truly necessary.
Having made his decision, Aurelius silently "equipped" the Relic.
He smiled as he sensed his Vitality increase significantly.
Then, he turned toward the last three items—two sets of weapons and a leather-bound book.
Reaching out, he picked up the weapons: a beautiful silver dagger and a set of knuckles.
The identity of each item’s owners was obvious.
But much to Aurelius’ disappointment, neither of the two was a Relic.
Although their durability and sharpness far surpassed ordinary items one could buy in the streets, they were far from being truly "extraordinary".
Considering his current lack of weapons, however, he pocketed them right away.
Finally, Aurelius shifted his attention to the final item.
It was a book, one of the few items he had not had the time to go through before.
Although it was long past midnight, the consecutive battles had left Aurelius’ nerves tight.
As such, he quickly lay down and began flipping through the withered pages.
It didn’t take him long. Just short of an hour later, two somewhat familiar prompts flashed before him.
"Ding! You’ve learned Lethal Strike."
"Ding! You’ve learned Guardian Armor."
Aurelius nodded in satisfaction.
Even he hadn’t expected that the book would contain two spells, and two very useful ones at that.
As its name would suggest, Lethal Strike allowed the user to perform a single, high-damage strike.
As for Guardian Armor, it granted the user the ability to summon an armor made of light, which could withstand a certain amount of damage.
Both were things Aurelius urgently needed.
He didn’t choose to gamble with them using Synthesis, but merely watched them settle on the Player Panel.
Looking out of his window, he noticed that most of the night had already passed.
But Aurelius did not feel tired at all.
With the belief that one should always doom-scroll before going to sleep, his mind stirred and summoned the Player forum.
"Twelve Ways to Seduce NPCs", "How to Cultivate an Awakener Catgirl", "On the Journey of Finding My Werewolf Husband"
No matter how many times he had seen such posts, Aurelius always found himself becoming speechless.
Especially as he read the last one, he nearly shuddered and was about to close it.
Thankfully, just when he was about to close the forum entirely, he found a familiar name in the sea of degenerate posts.
"World_Builder".
Unlike his previous post, which contained basic information about the continent, this one was regarding a far more specialized subject:
Gods!
"Most of the NPCs within the Nova Roma Game believe in one of the Seven Righteous Gods."
"Among the major powers, the Dawn Kingdom believes in the God of Sun and the Goddess of Night."
"The Pirate Kingdom believes in the God of the Sea, the War Empire in the God of War and the Goddess of Life, etc."
"Each deity has their own church. They do not merely hold a nominal role, but actually wield real administrative power. In a sense, the Popes of the major churches can sit at the same level as the Kings and Emperors of the various forces."
World_Builder dove deeper into the matter next, going over the habits of each deity’s followers, etc.
Although Aurelius knew most of the provided information, he still read through the entire post attentively.
Silently, he committed the name World_Builder to memory once more, believing that he would have a bright future within the game.
At the very least, his knowledge was the most extensive among the Players from what he had seen.
After finally finishing the post and seeing the commenters scold World_Builder for speaking nonsense as always, Aurelius intended to close the forum and finally go to sleep.
But just then, the entire "screen" in front of him blurred.
Countless lights gathered at the top, while confetti fell from the "sky", accompanied by a myriad of special effects.
At the very top of the forum, a small thumbnail appeared. Right next to it was a "Play" button, followed by a reminder.
"The first trailer of the Nova Roma Game has been released! Click here to watch!"
