Chapter 1: Aurelius Sol
The blurry outline of a graceful figure danced ethereally in Aurelius’ vision.
A soft body lay on top of him as he nearly lost himself in the pleasure.
That feeling didn’t last for a long time, however.
Shortly afterward, Aurelius felt something deep inside him awaken and leave his body, flowing into the figure.
Pain assaulted his senses.
He tried to open his eyes only to find that he couldn’t.
Time passed. Moments slipped by.
It was only when the pain was starting to become unbearable that Aurelius managed to forcefully open his eyes.
What came into his vision was an unfamiliar ceiling.
Just as he was about to examine it more closely, an even sharper pain arrived.
A surge of memories burst into his mind.
Terms and names he had never heard before appeared, all accompanied by first-person view images as though he had personally experienced them.
Aurelius followed the life of a young man, from birth to his eventual adulthood.
He witnessed both the happy and the sad events, and it appeared that he had really been there all along.
"So... I’ve reincarnated? Did I only awaken my past-life memories due to the stimulation brought by the life-and-death situation?"
Aurelius smiled wryly.
Arriving in another world was a dream for countless people in his previous life, an instinctive yearning ordinary people had in the hope of escaping their lives.
Yet as he forced his head up and took in his own situation, Aurelius struggled to feel lucky at all.
A luxurious room. A king-sized bed.
On top of it lay a pale, naked body that was none other than his own.
Even when he tried to move and rise to his feet, his own body refused to follow his commands.
It was as though he had been bedridden for years and had long lost the ability to move.
Having obtained the relevant memories, Aurelius knew very well how he had ended up like this.
In this life, his status was extraordinary.
Born as the son of an Earl, he was already ahead of most people the moment he was born.
Or at least, that was how it seemed on the surface.
Everything changed when one considered that his mother was not a noble, but an ordinary maid.
Thus, only a few months after he was born, both he and his mother were sent to guard the Kingdom’s borders—a rather complicated way to say "exile".
This had a great impact on his predecessor. At first, he wished to work hard and regain his father’s favor and love.
But as the years passed and he got smarter and wiser, he finally realized the cruelty of reality.
From then on, he gave up on himself, frequently using his noble status as an excuse to act like an arrogant playboy.
As these memories flashed through his mind, Aurelius frowned deeply.
"It was fine if you wanted to be useless, but why did you have to mess up with that witch? Idiot!"
"Now I have to clean up the mess you made!"
Aurelius had the urge to find his predecessor and slap him across the face.
Amanda. A common girl Aurelius had recently been enamored with.
After chasing her for several weeks and offering her a variety of gifts, he had been able to "get her into bed".
Unfortunately, the results were far beyond his expectations.
Halfway through the deed, Amanda forcefully pinned him down and muttered a strange incantation.
Then, his vitality flowed away.
Aurelius did not understand what was happening back then.
But after he awakened his memories, he finally did.
In cultivation terms, his Yang Qi had been sucked out of him!
No wonder his body felt so weak and that he couldn’t move!
It was not an illusion.
His body was really that weak!
In Aurelius’ senses, his vitality was still passing away. It was only a matter of time before he would die.
More importantly, there was absolutely nothing he could do to stop it.
"Damn it! Is God playing a prank on me?"
"I’ve gotten another chance in life! Could it be that I’m just going to die a few minutes later?"
He wanted to clench his fists and grit his teeth.
But in a somewhat humiliating way, he found that he could do neither.
Only a sharp pain rushed through his arms and his jaw, as though mocking him for overestimating his abilities.
Aurelius could only stare at the ceiling blankly, watching as his vitality slowly passed away.
Minutes went by.
His worst fears were soon confirmed. No one came to save him.
His vision steadily began to blur. Even breathing became difficult.
Yet just as he was starting to become desperate, something suddenly changed.
A trace of light flickered in his field of vision.
Aurelius dismissed it as a mere illusion at first.
But as seconds passed and this light became increasingly brighter, he finally started to pay attention to it.
Seconds later, the lights gathered.
They fused into words as the soft chime of a bell rang directly within his mind.
"Ding!"
"Player Template has been activated!"
"Player has been deemed to be in a desperate situation. Assigning Tutorial Mission and adjusting the Rewards accordingly...."
"..."
"Do you wish to accept the Tutorial Mission?"
Aurelius struggled to read through these words. It ended up taking him several seconds.
But by the time he reached the end, his eyes lit up.
A cheat!
It was true! His years of reading experience had not failed him!
Every transmigrator and reincarnator was indeed accompanied by their personal cheat!
Though doubtful about its existence, Aurelius quickly understood how it functioned.
All he had to do was complete the mission to obtain the promised rewards.
Its relative simplicity was particularly helpful in his current situation, where he could not afford to waste any time.
His mind focused.
Looking at the final sentence, he muttered "yes" inside his mind.
The next instant, the words blurred. The lights fused together once more before they settled into new lines of text.
"Mission: Participate in an Awakener’s Rank Advancement Ritual."
"Rewards: ..."
Before the potential rewards could show up, the panel dissipated into golden light.
Another chime echoed as new lines of text replaced it.
"Ding!"
"The Mission has been completed!"
"Rewards are being administered..."
"..."
