Chapter 1487: Chapter 1399: The Giant Turntable
A gigantic grindstone appeared in Ye Guichen and his companions’ line of sight.
The grindstone stretched endlessly beyond view, surrounded by countless gears interlocking together, while those gears also connected to numerous grindstones, resembling an intricate machine.
If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, Ye Guichen simply couldn’t imagine that such large grindstones and gears could exist in this world.
It was as if at the Earth’s core there was a massive machine composed of countless gears, and as the gears operated incessantly, the Earth also rotated accordingly.
"Brother Ye, what is this thing?" Chu Yuanchen swallowed hard, unable to believe his eyes.
Ye Guichen pondered for a moment, as though something occurred to him, he turned to Chu Yuanchen, "Brother Chu, isn’t it rumored that the landscape of the Northern North Desolation often changes, sometimes even shifts?"
"Shift?" Chu Yuanchen was stunned, suddenly slapped his forehead, pointed at those grindstones and gears in surprise and exclaimed, "No way? Brother Ye, could you mean that the entire Northern North Desolation can shift because of these things? But how is that possible? These grindstones are several kilometers in size, some even exceeding ten kilometers, how could human force accomplish this?"
Ye Guichen couldn’t explain either, but that’s the situation before them.
If their guess was correct, the landscape’s frequent changes in the Northern North Desolation should be caused by these gears and grindstones.
But as for the reason, Ye Guichen couldn’t figure it out now.
"Perhaps, it might be the work of an Immortal," Feng Wuxiu suddenly interjected.
Ye Guichen turned to glance at Feng Wuxiu, feeling that what he said might really be possible.
If it truly was the work of an Immortal, they might indeed be capable of such feats.
"Then if that’s the case, could it be that the Northern North Desolation is an Immortal’s experimentation ground? Or, was this deliberately set up by someone?" Chu Yuanchen took a deep breath, feeling increasingly trapped in his own thoughts.
Ye Guichen stopped saying more, seeing nothing worth taking there, he beckoned Chu Yuanchen and Feng Wuxiu to leave the place swiftly.
If these gears and grindstones indeed controlled the Northern North Desolation’s landscape, it would definitely be a tremendous project.
However, Ye Guichen couldn’t fathom why someone would do this.
Yet now, even understanding it wouldn’t help.
Based on their cultivation level, they couldn’t even reach that level.
"Alright, let’s head back the way we came," Ye Guichen said, preparing to turn and leave.
At that moment, a low voice sounded.
They saw the gigantic grindstone and gears emitting a dull friction sound, slowly starting to turn.
Ye Guichen and his companions clearly saw the entire world seemingly undergoing changes.
"Quickly go!" Ye Guichen shouted, quickly retracing their steps.
If their guesses were accurate, they might not be able to return to their original place even if they retraced their steps, but should they accidentally enter the Demon King’s lair, it would spell doom for them.
The trio along with the Dragon Scale Wolf quickly rushed back.
After much difficulty, they returned to the surface, Ye Guichen and the others were dumbfounded.
Just as Ye Guichen thought, the original desert was nowhere to be seen, replaced by marshlands.
Beside the marshlands, countless beasts were drinking water.
Additionally, there were half-demons lying around resting.
It seemed they had inadvertently entered the demon lair.
Ye Guichen suddenly felt exasperated.
The beasts and half-demons soon noticed the presence of Ye Guichen and his companions, lifting their heads in confusion as to why three humans suddenly appeared.
In the next moment, the half-demon seemed to react suddenly, "Human cultivators!"
However, just as the half-demon reacted, Ye Guichen’s speed was faster.
Ye Guichen’s figure moved, he was right in front of the half-demon, sword raised and fell, directly chopping off the half-demon’s head.
The surrounding beasts immediately fell into chaos.
Feng Wuxiu and Chu Yuanchen were also stunned, beginning their slaughter.
But those beasts, seeing their leader killed, quickly scattered and fled.
Before long, nothing but debris remained around.
Chu Yuanchen, panting heavily, approached Ye Guichen, "Brother Ye, what should we do now? We have no idea where we are."
Ye Guichen also shook his head helplessly, "Then we can only try to leave here, catch a half-demon and ask."
"That’s all we can do," Chu Yuanchen nodded.
Ye Guichen quickly surveyed the surrounding terrain.
The marshland was right by the edge of a forest, and from time to time, the roars of beasts could be heard from the forest, implying many beasts inside.
Ye Guichen knew, after killing a half-demon, the other beasts and even greater demons would surely find out humans were here.
It wouldn’t take long before they arrived here.
If surrounded by many beasts, although they wouldn’t be eaten, killing the beasts would have little meaning.
"Let’s go." Ye Guichen hesitated slightly, then led Chu Yuanchen, Feng Wuxiu, and the Four-eyed Dragon Scale Wolf, swiftly diving into the forest.
The forest was far larger than they had imagined. Ye Guichen and his companions no longer knew where they were, nor did they know what great demons lurked nearby. They could only proceed cautiously.
Shortly after, the Four-eyed Dragon Scale Wolf suddenly halted and sniffed the ground twice.
Ye Guichen found it very strange and looked in the direction that the Four-eyed Dragon Scale Wolf was sniffing.
There was a storage ring there.
The storage ring still had bloodstains on it, seemingly discarded unintentionally by its owner.
"Why would there be a storage ring here?" Ye Guichen picked up the storage ring, used his spiritual sense to probe inside, and found no barriers.
Judging by its state, the owner of the storage ring was likely dead.
However, upon seeing the contents of the storage ring, Ye Guichen was taken aback.
Inside, it was piled with countless human bones.
There was nothing else besides them.
Some of those bones seemed to have died recently, with their bodies yet to decompose, while others were reduced to just a white skeletal appearance.
Describing it as a mountain of bones was no exaggeration.
Seeing Ye Guichen’s furrowed brows, Chu Yuanchen quickly asked, "Brother Ye, what’s inside the storage ring?"
Ye Guichen shook his head and handed the storage ring to Chu Yuanchen.
Chu Yuanchen took it, probed inside with his divine sense, and his pupils suddenly dilated in disbelief: "This, how can these be human bones? What is going on?"
"I don’t know either." Although Ye Guichen had a guess in his heart, he didn’t dare to be certain.
Just then, voices suddenly came from afar.
Ye Guichen and Chu Yuanchen exchanged glances and quickly leaped into the trees, concealing themselves.
Feng Wuxiu also hid behind a big tree with the Four-eyed Dragon Scale Wolf.
After a short while, two figures in white robes approached, discussing something as they walked.
Meanwhile, each held a small stick about half a meter long, continuously poking the grass on the ground, seemingly searching for something.
"Strange, we didn’t find the storage ring on Yuan Liang’s corpse, and we’ve searched all the way here, but still haven’t found it. Could the storage ring have been hidden?" one of them muttered.
The other one added, "If it’s really lost, how are we supposed to report back? Most of the corpses exterminated by the Demon Clan during this period are in Yuan Liang’s storage ring. If we can’t find the storage ring, we’ll surely die when we return."
"Then what should we do?" The first person’s brows furrowed: "Our King specifically said that he stirred tension between the Demon Clan and human cultivators, using the opportunity to steal corpses to refine corpse elixirs. If the bodies are lost, we won’t survive either. In that case, we might as well flee."
"Flee? Are you kidding? We have been cursed with the Corpse Fixing Curse. We must take the antidote at regular intervals. If we don’t, you know death’s manner better than living in suffering!"
"Then, what should we do?" Recalling the horrifying death, fear flickered in both their eyes.
"Haha, what are you two envoys doing here?"
Suddenly, a laugh rang out.
Shortly after, another group appeared not far away.
The leader of this group was a charming woman.
However, judging by the aura emanating from the charming woman, she seemed to be a half-demon, yet her true form was unknown.
Following the half-demon were several other enchanting women, each as beautiful as flowers, with soul-stirring allure.
An even faint scent of seduction was in the air.
Upon seeing these women, the two white-robed individuals’ expressions changed instantly.
"So it’s Lady Python. Nice to meet you!" The two white-robed people exchanged a glance and smiled awkwardly.
The leading woman giggled, "Oh, are you two envoys looking for something here?"
"No, no," they shook their heads in unison, denying her claim.
Yet their demeanor already betrayed their lie.
The woman raised an eyebrow, "I heard that Yuan Liang died. Do you know how?"
It was evident that the woman also knew about the Yuan Liang they spoke of.
At her words, the two white-robed men’s expressions slightly changed: "Yuan Liang wanted to defect to human cultivators, a crime deserving death."
"Is that so?" The woman’s lips curled into a playful smile. "But as I heard, it was because Yuan Liang accidentally revealed your Corpse King’s plan that you killed him, wasn’t it?"
"Plan? Lady Python, what are you talking about? We don’t understand!" The two white-robed men tried to play dumb.
Suddenly, the woman shook her head, and a huge snake tongue shot from her mouth.
The snake tongue appeared before one of the white-robed men in the blink of an eye, wrapping around his neck and twisting it, snapping it cleanly.
The other white-robed man was so scared that he collapsed to his knees, kowtowing for mercy, "Lady Python, spare me! Lady Python, spare me!"
The woman rolled her tongue back, pulling the white-robed man’s lifeless body toward her.
The next moment, her mouth became enormous, swallowing the dead white-robed man whole.
"If you don’t want to end up like your companion, you’d better tell the truth," the woman licked her lips, burping, then opened her mouth and spat out a piece of bone and cloth.
