Chapter 1704: Chapter 1704: No One Gets Away Unscathed
Yiyi watched the researchers in white lab coats push strange machines over, hovering above her.
She couldn’t help but feel anxious, for facing the fear of the unknown is most terrifying.
Various machines emitted waves and lights over her, making her heart pound.
Fortunately, nothing dreadful happened, they just conducted a thorough examination, drawing a small amount of blood from her.
Then they examined the wound on her thigh.
After that, they pushed her into a hospital room.
They were probably analyzing the examination data. Yiyi wondered what the purpose was, could she possibly save the Councilman’s wife?
About an hour later, the door to the hospital room opened, and Ji Lingkong and a few researchers walked in.
Ji Lingkong glanced at her, then focused on the test reports in the hands of the researchers.
"How is it?"
The researchers shook their heads in disappointment: "We examined the extracted fluid from her wound and her blood, but didn’t find the bacteria found in the Councilman’s wife."
Ji Lingkong’s face darkened: "What’s going on? Weren’t they injured by the same weapon?"
Yiyi was shocked to hear that it was the same weapon?
She had never thought that the fragment that injured the Councilman’s wife was then shot into her own thigh by Fengye Wuyin. She had assumed it was something else arranged by Fengye Wuyin.
This is strange, the Councilman’s wife is so ill, yet she’s completely fine.
The head researcher gave Yiyi a complicated look: "Yes, indeed. But she doesn’t show the same symptoms as the Councilman’s wife, so there are a few possibilities."
Yiyi couldn’t help but perk up her ears, eager to hear what’s going on?
"The first possibility is that this biochemical entity has a latency period. The Councilman’s wife didn’t test positive during her initial examination either; her condition only emerged recently. She might have a stronger constitution than the Councilman’s wife, and the latency period is longer, so it’s not showing yet."
Yiyi’s heart skipped a beat, filled with anxiety. No way, she might also be infected with that terrible bacteria.
If there’s no way to save the Councilman’s wife, she too is doomed.
Ji Lingkong’s eyes darkened further as he glanced sideways at Yiyi: "What are the other reasons then?"
"There are two other possibilities: first, before shooting this fragment at her, the person had already cleaned off whatever was on it, so she’s fine. Secondly, she might have taken medicine to treat this in advance, so she’s unaffected," the head researcher speculated.
Yiyi’s face turned paler, her heart sank. If she were indeed infected, it might not even be a bad thing considering her current situation.
At least it would prove she’s a victim and not in collusion with Fengye Wuyin, just forced into action by him, and then silenced. This way, her innocence might convince Ji Lingkong.
But if it’s one of the other two scenarios... she fears that she would be firmly branded as an accomplice with Fengye Wuyin, deepening his suspicion of her.
Alas, such terrible luck.
If infected, she would be in critical danger like the Councilman’s wife. If not, she’d look more like a spy, ending with a similarly bad fate, neither option ends well.
Yiyi could neither cry nor laugh.
But if she had to choose, she truly would prefer being infected, at least then his gaze wouldn’t be so guarded and disdainful towards her.
