Chapter 1459: Chapter 1459: Ending Part Seven

"When we were in the primal forest, you left me behind once. We promised to face life and death together, to always stay together. That time, you forced me to leave, sacrificing your own life to give me a chance to live. Are you going to do the same thing again this time?"

Ye Lu’s voice was sorrowful.

"I don’t want to go through that kind of life-and-death separation again, not knowing how much it tears at my soul. Without you, even if I live, do you think I’d be happy? I would never be happy. My heart would die along with you. I don’t want to always be protected behind you, watching you trade your life again and again for mine. If you can do it, then so can I. I can use my life to save yours."

"You... you silly fool, why are you saying such stupid things, you little idiot." Third Young Master Jun gazed at her flushed, emotional face, listening to her mournful voice that reached into his very bones. He felt both deeply touched and aching inside, the urgency and anger in his heart melting into infinite tenderness and love.

He pulled her forcefully into his embrace, his hand gently patting her back to soothe her agitation.

"I’m not stupid... In fact, I’m the most selfish one."

Ye Lu’s tear-streaked face pressed tightly against his chest, her voice faint and shadowed. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"No matter how long I live, I only wish to die before you. That way, I would never lose your love, nor would I have to endure the grief of losing you. I want you to be with me for every day of my life, loving me, so that I can truly be happy. Jun Huang, I love you too much. I can’t bear to lose you, so I’d rather trade my life for your chance to live."

"You silly fool, you’re such a silly fool." Third Young Master Jun’s chest trembled, something overwhelming seemed to surge inside him.

He held her even tighter, fervently kissing her hair, tender and full of heartache.

"Seems like I’m the selfish one. All I ever wanted was for you to live, without considering how much pain this would cause you. Lu’er, I love you too deeply. I always thought my choices were for your benefit."

Ye Lu lifted her tearful gaze to look at him, gripping his hand tightly.

"Then this time, let’s not think about who should live and who should sacrifice. Let’s face it together. If we live, we live together. If we die, we die together. No matter what happens, we’ll always be together, okay?"

"You’ve really defeated me. Okay, we’ll face it together." Third Young Master Jun’s eyes burned bright, gently stroking her forehead. "This time, we’ll live or die as one!"

After the terrifying near-death experience earlier, he finally understood.

He had always tried to bear everything on his own, to make her life easier. But was that truly good for her? She would rather face destruction alongside the Godfather than let him shoulder everything alone. She didn’t want to be a weakling, a protected person; she was determined to face everything side by side with him.

She was willing to share life and death with him. With a wife like this, what more could a husband desire!

So for this battle, let them fight it together as husband and wife!

"You won’t lie to me?" Ye Lu stared at him with unwavering eyes.

"Never!" Third Young Master Jun let go of all reservations and smiled, suddenly feeling as if his heart had been lifted of all burdens. The worries, anxieties, and tension all dissipated.

What was there to think about anymore? Let it be like this. Let him be selfish just this once and cast away reason.

If he lived, she would live. If she died, he would die alongside her.

Ye Lu smiled joyfully as well. She stood on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around his neck, and softly kissed his lips.

Even though she knew the road ahead would be perilous, that the Godfather would be difficult to defeat, and that perhaps they might truly lose their lives in the end, in this moment all she felt was lightness and happiness. This feeling of shared hardship, of hearts beating as one, made her feel that her entire life was worthwhile!
