Chapter 1429: Chapter 1429: I Want to See You

He stared at the name flashing on the screen, his expression darkened, and he pressed the button to reject the call.

But soon, the phone rang again, persistent and relentless, as if she would keep calling forever unless he answered.

With a helpless sigh, he picked up.

"It’s me." Ye Lu’s hoarse voice came through the line, low and steady, like the depth of an ocean—calm and unruffled.

Third Young Master Jun was surprised. He thought her fiery temper would flare after he brought up divorce last time. Surely, her heart would be torn and angry, and she’d confront him with fury and resentment.

Yet he didn’t expect her to be so composed—so calm it felt strange.

"What’s the matter?" His voice was steady and cool.

"I’d like to meet you," Ye Lu’s voice paused briefly, "I’ll be leaving the city for a few days tomorrow. Can you come out today?"

Third Young Master Jun was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected her to suggest meeting up, and his brows faintly furrowed.

Memories of his cold-heartedness flashed in his mind—how he had repeatedly caused her pain. He recalled her desperate pleading over the phone last time, her refusal to divorce, the heartbreaking sound of her crying. His chest tightened, a dull ache spreading in his heart.

Truthfully, he wanted to see her too, to check on her, to find out how she was doing, and if she was taking care of herself.

But he had hurt her so deeply, disappointed her so thoroughly—surely she wasn’t faring well.

He knew his sins were unforgivable. He could only hope that she was strong enough to endure. No matter what, she had to hold on.

Once they got past this period, everything would be over. Regardless of whether the ending was sorrowful or sweet, it would be set in stone. She would eventually understand his intentions.

"I’ve been really busy lately; I can’t come. Your due date is at the end of the month. You’ve been working yourself too hard—just focus on resting and waiting for the baby to arrive. Don’t run around anymore." His voice sounded distant and indifferent.

The other end of the call suddenly fell silent.

After a long pause, Ye Lu’s low voice broke through, carrying a bitter undertone, a sadness that couldn’t be put into words: "Even if we’re really going to divorce, would you truly refuse to see me even once?"

"I’m very busy."

"It won’t take much of your time—just an hour. Can you spare that?"

"No."

"Half an hour."

"I’m sorry."

Ye Lu gripped the phone tightly, listening to his indifferent and unwavering refusal. Her lips curved into an even more bitter smile, while her heart pulsed with sharp, stabbing pain.

She understood the reason for his rejection—he didn’t want her involved any further. He didn’t want to waver in his plans or determination because of their meeting. He didn’t want her to discover even the slightest clue.

And so he hardened his heart and rejected her coldly.

Yet, even though she knew all of this, his icy, distant words still left her devastated.

She also knew she shouldn’t be trying to see him during such a critical moment.

But, she was afraid there wouldn’t be another chance in the future. No matter what, she desperately wanted to meet him one last time—to truly look at him again, even if it was just for a little while.

She missed him so much, longing for him to the depths of her soul. Every fiber of her heart was entangled with love for him.

"Then... ten minutes. If ten minutes is too much, how about five? Just to see each other—would that really be too much to ask?" She tried to suppress the trembling in her voice and smiled faintly, "Even if we’re going to divorce, we don’t have to act like strangers. And besides, we haven’t actually divorced yet."

Third Young Master Jun’s heart trembled. Why was she being this foolish? It was clearly him, heartless and refusing to meet her.

She didn’t get angry. Instead, she humbled herself, begging him like this—just for five minutes, ten minutes—with such a lowly attitude. He had never seen her like this before.

Even in the past, when she yielded to him, she’d always maintained her inner pride. She had never truly bowed and scraped before anyone.
