Chapter 1266: Chapter 1266: Breaking Through the Trials
"This is the gate to Juechen Palace. Inside, there are many challenges. There are a total of four checkpoints. Are you sure you want to go in?" Master Wu Hui reminded once again.
"Yes, I want to go in." Chen Tianlong nodded firmly.
"I want to go too." Lin Wushuang saw that Chen Tianlong was going in, so how could she be willing to stay outside alone? After all, she was also a Celestial Dao six-star expert and not a burden to Chen Tianlong.
"...."
Master Wu Hui was speechless for a moment. These two didn’t know the power of the checkpoints. Even Master Void wasn’t confident he could pass through unharmed. But Wu Hui couldn’t communicate with Master Void since the latter was devoted to his cultivation.
"Wushuang, you should return to the Shaolin Temple. I will be back soon." Chen Tianlong also saw the master’s expression, which clearly indicated something unconventional inside.
"I won’t. Chen Tianlong, you promised me that we would face everything together, no matter what. Besides, I also want to see Mengting." Lin Wushuang was adamant and refused to leave.
Chen Tianlong took a deep breath. He understood Lin Wushuang’s personality, but honestly, he didn’t believe any checkpoint could be so powerful. After all, he had already reached the Celestial Dao seven-star Great Perfection, and Lin Wushuang was a Celestial Dao six-star expert. Even if they couldn’t win, retreating would be fine.
After thinking for a while, Chen Tianlong agreed.
Master Wu Hui had nothing more to say. Being a virtuous monk, he understood that matters of personal will couldn’t be forced.
"Are you two ready? Once you start through these four checkpoints, you can only move forward. There’s no turning back until you see the Sect Leader Senior Brother inside Juechen Palace, after which the door can be opened." Master Wu Hui stated.
"What? We can’t turn back?" Upon hearing this, Lin Wushuang was a little surprised. Initially, she thought that if things got really bad, they could just retreat, but she didn’t expect it to be this way.
"That’s how it is. If you both decide to give up now, that is also possible." Master Wu Hui said.
"Wushuang, maybe you shouldn’t go. It’s so dangerous inside..."
"No," Lin Wushuang pouted and said, "You just promised me, no going back on your word."
"Oh."
Chen Tianlong gave a wry smile and could only nod at Wu Hui, indicating they were ready.
Seeing this, Master Wu Hui took three steps forward, then placed his palm on a large door and started moving it back and forth in circles, as if entering a password to unlock it.
With a strong push from Master Wu Hui, the door rumbled open.
"Enter now, but let me advise you, the true path is often the way back!" Master Wu Hui advised.
Chen Tianlong understood the master’s meaning. It must be extremely perilous inside, or the master wouldn’t have advised them so. However, once Chen Tianlong made his decision, it was unchangeable.
After all, Wu Mengting was inside, and she had to go in to see her, plus there were many things she wanted to say to her.
Without speaking, Chen Tianlong took Lin Wushuang’s hand and quickly walked through the entrance. Just as the two entered, the door rumbled shut again.
As they turned back in surprise, they then turned to walk further inside.
Although it was a cave, every room had a window leading outside, allowing sunlight to pour in, so it wasn’t too dim.
This was the first checkpoint, and logically speaking, even if there were mechanisms, they shouldn’t be too dangerous.
Thus, Chen Tianlong didn’t exercise much caution and led Lin Wushuang forward at a faster pace.
Suddenly, bamboo tubes extended from all directions. Chen Tianlong recognized this scene as one he’d encountered before, clearly a Hidden Weapon setup.
"Wushuang, be careful of the Hidden Weapons."
Just as Chen Tianlong spoke, the Hidden Weapons from all directions began their assault, moving at extreme speed and with great power. It seemed as if each weapon had been charged to full capacity. Even Chen Tianlong, with his exceptional speed, felt the pressure.
He hurriedly drew the Dragon Slayer Sword and rapidly deflected the barrage, but since the Hidden Weapons came from all directions and were too fast, there was no way. Chen Tianlong could only shove Lin Wushuang to the ground, and the two lay there, watching the Hidden Weapons fly overhead, darting back and forth, their eyes wide open.
If they hadn’t gone prone in time, they might have ended up like a beehive.
It seemed these flying darts wouldn’t cease, zipping past in front of them with no sign of stopping. Chen Tianlong marveled at the ingenuity of the mechanism’s designer. The projectiles didn’t just fly about randomly but were aimed at each other across the room, forming a continuous cycle.
It was akin to two masters playing ping-pong, volleying the ball back and forth in a straightforward principle.
In reality, there weren’t many darts. Strictly speaking, only one wall was lined with bamboo tubes, but they fired in turns. One side shot, the other caught, and it would switch for the next round, and so forth.
That is to say, if someone was hit, the following projectiles along that line wouldn’t fire.
Upon observing for a moment, Chen Tianlong finally discerned that eliminating one row of bamboo tubes would disrupt the cycle since there would be no counterpart to catch the projectiles. The mechanism would then collapse, allowing time to move forward.
Just as Chen Tianlong was devising a plan, he suddenly noticed a wall above slowly descending. Initially, Chen Tianlong thought he was seeing things, and quickly spoke to the tense Lin Wushuang beside him, "Wushuang, look up. Is that wall descending?"
"The wall! Let me check." Lin Wushuang was shell-shocked, not yet recovered. When she looked closely, she almost jumped up in fright, but thankfully, Chen Tianlong reacted quickly, promptly holding her down.
It was only then that Lin Wushuang came to her senses. Her shock just a moment ago nearly cost her life.
"Ah, Chen Tianlong, the wall is really pressing down on us. What do we do?" Lin Wushuang exclaimed, alarmed again, as she saw the wall above descending.
Chen Tianlong was speechless. This mechanism was truly formidable; it left no room to breathe. As if scattering Hidden Weapons wasn’t enough, the wall intended to crush down, leaving no escape even for an ant in the end.
It turned out Master Wu Hui spoke true, the situation was perilous beyond measure.
"Wushuang, don’t be afraid. I’m thinking of a solution." Chen Tianlong was anxious too. With the wall descending at its current speed, they had five minutes before being squashed.
That meant they had to come up with a plan within three minutes. Otherwise, once it dropped to knee height, even if a solution was found, they wouldn’t be able to crawl out.
Despite her fear, Lin Wushuang felt reassured with Chen Tianlong beside her, holding her hand throughout. Dying with the person she loved was almost worth it.
"Chen Tianlong, if we really were to die here, what would you want to do most now?" Lin Wushuang asked.
Chen Tianlong was still brainstorming and was caught off guard by Lin Wushuang’s question, rendering him speechless. But since the young lady asked, he couldn’t stay silent. Turning his head, he leaned in and kissed her.
