Chapter 2813: Chapter 938: No Need for Sadness at Reunion (Part 2)
This made Reveno quite upset.
Why is it that among so many new gods, there isn’t one represented by an eagle? Maybe someday, a Divine Monarch could descend and let me have some luck?
Murphy didn’t have time to wonder what his Blood-Drinking Spirit Vulture was thinking about; his attention was currently focused on the Vampire Elder who was courteously welcoming the Grand Duke Triss, visiting Cardman City for inspection and guidance.
Although the other party appeared quite respectful, Murphy couldn’t shake a sense of awkwardness from this person, and from Triss’s tightly knit brows, it seemed she felt the same way.
"I’m a bit tired after a great battle."
Facing the Vampire Elder’s suggestion to guide the Duke and the Earl around the city, Triss shook her head and said:
"First, prepare a room for me to rest for a while; let’s talk about this after I’ve gotten through this grueling morning."
"Oh, of course, of course."
The Vampire Elder paused, then nodded and said:
"Today’s sunlight is particularly malicious; I was neglectful. Please, Your Grace, follow me. I have already prepared two rooms in the Blood Vulture Tower that befit your statuses."
"Why two rooms?"
Triss shook her head, affectionately linking her arm with Murphy’s amidst the Elder’s stupefied gaze, and said:
"One room is enough."
What? What?
What is this!
The Vampire Elder’s forehead wrinkled into the shape of a river.
Based on the news he just received, isn’t Lord Murphy supposed to be the offspring of the Grand Duke Triss? So, is this how you folks in the New Blood Vulture Clan handle your superior-subordinate relationships, right? Our glorious Blood Vulture Clan, pure for a thousand years, and now we’ve got oddballs like you two!!!
Well, it was clear the Vampire Elder was a traditionalist.
He had quite an opinion about Triss and Murphy’s messing around with gender relations, but when Triss glanced at him with cold, piercing eyes, this Elder, who lived through the Crimson Witch’s prime, meekly bowed and said:
"In that case, please follow me, both of you."
They were quickly ushered into the specially prepared room in the Blood Vulture Tower, and the moment Murphy closed the door, he heard Triss say:
"Something’s wrong here!"
"Of course something’s wrong, especially with these vampires."
Murphy locked the door tightly and said:
"I previously thought the discordant feeling I got from them was due to the Star Realm power altering their physiology, but now getting closer, I’ve found things aren’t that simple. The other vampires are okay, but this Elder feels particularly unusual to me.
I can’t say exactly what’s wrong, but he is very strange.
Doesn’t seem like a proper vampire, don’t you think?
Hmm?
What are you doing?"
He turned back to see Triss already taking off her coat and tossing it aside, which made Murphy raise an eyebrow. This seems off; Triss still had that "Desire Valve" on her neck, so she should be in her conservative witch state.
"My head’s a bit muddled, and my mind’s uneasy."
Triss rubbed her forehead, an unstoppable irritation in her voice:
"Ever since entering this city, I’ve been hearing those voices again, but this time they’re a bit different from the agitated and frenzied ones I heard before. I think I might know where the vampires’ changes are coming from."
"Then we should leave now."
Murphy said sternly:
"I don’t want to take risks with this kind of thing. We can return to the Swamp Forbidden Area and wait until your condition improves before exploring these secrets, or you can go back first, and I can stay here alone."
"I said, Murphy, this time the voices are different from before! I have to figure out what’s different, it’s very important. Besides, my little Mo Fei has become the victor, and the Goddess of Victory must reward the warrior’s brave deeds."
Triss stepped forward to her little Mo Fei, opening her arms and saying:
"Come, help me."
"That sounds weird somehow."
Murphy retorted, stepping forward to grab the small box pendant from Triss’s neck and take it off.
Just as this "limiter" was removed, the previously rational Triss’s eyes immediately turned red, and with a growl, she pounced on him and tackled him to the luxurious carpet, like a hungry tigress.
Well, even Murphy had to admit something was indeed off.
But...
This isn’t bad, right?
The victor should receive rewards befitting their status, after all.
-----------------
As the Goddess of Victory fiercely rewarded the warrior who pulled her skirt, Old Norman was a bit weary in a Lower City District alley of Cardman City, having just completed his patrol. He dismissed the militia that followed him and stepped into his temporary city lodging alone.
Calling it lodging might be an overstatement; it was just an unoccupied shop, its owner long gone, and conveniently close to Fink Street, making it easier to monitor the heretics, so Old Norman had set his bedroll here.
He defended the place alone but noticed something was amiss as soon as he pushed the door open; there were other people inside.
"Swish"
The Hunter’s Sword drew out into his hand, the other gripping a Seed of Nature ready to summon a Bloodthirsty Treant at any moment, but upon kicking the door open, his sight fell on two "old acquaintances."
Porter and Ambo!
Their travel-worn appearance clearly showed they rushed here from the Polluted Swamp as soon as they heard about Cardman City’s return to the material world. Meeting old friends after disasters should be a cheerful event, but facing the standing Old Porter and the red-eyed Ambo, Norman felt a bit awkward.
