Chapter 51: Silver Foundation

"When we return to the estate I am going to make you my personal warden," Seraphina declared firmly projecting her natural commanding authority. "I will grant you access to the outer ring of the Sterling Vanguard manuals. I am going to teach you how to properly shape your energy into a blade so you never have to block a scythe with your bare forearms again."

Leon felt a dark highly satisfied smile spread across his face.

The pervert system was providing the raw stats but the Silver Goddess was officially handing him the keys to the kingdom.

He offered her a deep respectful nod knowing the path to becoming a formidable Aura Knight was finally opening before him.

Morning fog eventually burned away under the rising sun allowing thin spears of golden light to pierce the heavy canopy of the Whisper Woods.

Seraphina’s internal magical pathways had stabilized enough for her to safely endure physical travel although she was still strictly incapable of channeling her crimson aura without risking permanent damage.

Leon expertly packed their minimal supplies into the leather satchels and helped the weakened noblewoman mount the giant armored wolf.

Stormfang let out a low rumbling growl of approval as Leon swung his muscular frame up into the saddle directly behind his master. He casually wrapped his strong arms around Seraphina’s narrow waist pulling her back flush against his chest just as he had done during their frantic ride the previous day.

This time however the Silver Goddess did not issue a single fierce threat or attempt to elbow him in the ribs.

She let out a soft contented sigh and leaned her exhausted body heavily against his solid torso allowing him to act as her primary physical support.

"We are heading toward Oakhaven," Seraphina instructed while lightly snapping the leather reins to guide the massive beast through the dense brush. "It is a fortified logging outpost situated on the southern border of the forest controlled by a minor branch of House Sterling. We can secure fresh supplies and a secure communication relay to inform the Patriarch about the Syndicate’s movements."

The journey through the treacherous woods proceeded at a much slower pace to ensure they did not accidentally stumble into another localized beast.

The rhythmic swaying of the giant wolf provided a surprisingly peaceful backdrop for a deeply educational conversation.

"You must understand the hierarchy of the world you are stepping into Leon," Seraphina lectured softly over her shoulder while enjoying the radiating heat of his broad chest. "The Aura Realms dictate absolute law. Novice Adept and Master are the mortal tiers. You possess the physical attributes of a Tier One Master which like I said is a miraculous feat for a man without a formal bloodline."

She shifted slightly adjusting her weight to better mold against his tailored uniform.

"Grandmasters mark the beginning of the transcendent tiers where aura manifests into physical external phenomena," she continued while pointing toward the scarred trees they passed. "Above them sit the Aura Lords who can passively manipulate the environment around them. Then come the Aura Kings who conquer entire regions with their mere presence. Finally there are the Aura Emperors the mythical saints who hold the power to reshape the very continent."

Leon absorbed the information with rapt attention.

The knowledge that he still had to climb through dozens of grueling power tiers to reach the top only fueled the fiery raging inferno of his ambition.

He was determined to stockpile his Shameless Points and devour every single martial manual the noble daughter offered him until the masked Enforcer looked like a pathetic insect in comparison.

They rode for nearly six hours before the twisted ancient trees finally began to thin out revealing a sprawling valley surrounded by tall wooden palisades.

The outpost of Oakhaven looked rugged and heavily militarized featuring watchtowers manned by armored archers and a massive iron gate designed to keep rogue magical beasts from slaughtering the local logging population.

Stormfang trotted casually up to the main gate drawing immediate fearful attention from the stationed guards. The giant armored wolf was a legendary creature exclusively reserved for the elite members of the main noble family.

A tall imposing man wearing highly polished silver armor strutted out from the guardhouse to intercept them. This was Captain Thorne the garrison commander of the outpost.

He possessed a thick neatly trimmed beard and carried himself with the arrogant swagger of a man who firmly believed he was the undisputed king of his remote muddy domain.

He was a Tier Three Adept which made him practically a god among the common loggers but a pathetic weakling in the grand scheme of the aristocratic hierarchy.

Captain Thorne stopped a few feet away from the wolf and puffed out his armored chest.

His smug expression instantly faltered when he recognized the pale exhausted face of Lady Seraphina Sterling leaning heavily against a ragged bloodstained servant.

"Lady Seraphina," Thorne stammered out while executing a clumsy hasty bow. He quickly recovered his arrogant composure and glared menacingly at Leon. "What in the name of the Goddess is the meaning of this? Why is a filthy ragged commoner holding you hostage on your own mount? Guards seize this insolent rat immediately!"

A dozen armored spearmen rapidly stepped forward leveling their sharp weapons directly at Leon’s chest.

Captain Thorne drew his runic broadsword intending to play the grand hero who rescued the vulnerable noble daughter from a treacherous servant.

The crystal bell violently chimed in Leon’s skull projecting a blinding pink text box into his vision right over the arrogant captain’s head.

[Quest Issued: The Muddy King]

[Context: A pathetic minor officer believes his cheap armor grants him the authority to bark orders at the degenerate king.]

[Objective: Violently remind him of the foodchain.]

[Reward: +15 Strength, Skill ’Intimidation Aura’, 200 Shameless Points.]

[Failure Penalty: The Host will suffer a localized magical weakness in his legs causing him to trip over the wolf’s tail and land face first in a massive pile of fresh animal manure.]

Leon read the penalty and felt his dark eyes narrow into dangerous predatory slits.

He casually unspooled his arms from Seraphina’s waist and offered her a highly reassuring magnetic smirk before preparing to deliver an educational beating.
