Chapter 1369: Chapter 1369: Mixed Feelings

One family’s joy is another family’s sorrow.

Just as White Whale was about to explode with anger, Boss Zuo was overjoyed on his side.

When Peng Bird reported back the news of General Hawan’s death and the utter disaster that befell the Spine Team, Boss Zuo was so delighted that he was beside himself with joy.

Initially dissatisfied with breakfast, Boss Zuo found his appetite improved along with his mood.

Boss Zuo praised Peng Bird a few times, ended the call, and then, in high spirits, started humming a tune.

"Today’s breakfast is delicious, no matter which chef made it, reward them." Boss Zuo said generously.

The assistant’s mouth twitched, unsure what to say, and muttered in his heart, "In a blink of an eye, the chef is credited again; didn’t he just say he was going to punish the chef? Called breakfast stuff that even pigs and dogs wouldn’t eat, and next time the chef gets scolded, won’t they be fed to the dogs? It immediately became delicious, this change of face is really astonishingly fast."

Even though the assistant was very familiar with Boss Zuo’s unpredictable moods, witnessing this scene still left him deeply shocked.

"What the boss says goes, rewarding the chef is a trivial matter that shouldn’t linger on the boss’s mind, I’ll handle it." The assistant responded earnestly, and although he couldn’t quite understand Boss Zuo’s rapid change, he could only obey Boss Zuo’s orders without any delay.

In D Country, it was well known that Boss Zuo had grievances with General Hawan and the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps. Now, with General Hawan dead, the Spine Team annihilated, and the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps suffering heavy losses, his two enemies having faced such great disasters, how could he not be happy?

With happiness in his heart, not only did his appetite increase, but everything seemed pleasing to the eye now.

The assistant naturally didn’t know these things, filled with surprise and incomprehension at Boss Zuo’s overreaction but dared not say much.

"Good riddance to that old bastard Hawan, dying like that."

"A commander from the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps is dead, and the Spine Team is gone, this tiger’s teeth are almost gone."

"Such a major event, it deserves to be celebrated nationwide with grand festivities."

"Those fake Peng Bird guys, not bad, very good, I’m optimistic about you, don’t let me down."

"Go on and eliminate the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps to the maximum extent, keep it up."

Boss Zuo’s heart was as sweet as if smeared with honey, he couldn’t be happier.

...

Over at White Whale’s side, after much contemplation and accepting the fact that the Spine Team was annihilated, she decided to report everything to Hawk.

The call connected, and she spoke with a desolate tone, ashamedly saying, "Brother, I am guilty, I have caused a huge disaster."

"What’s wrong? What happened?" Hawk instantly sensed something was amiss, his tone becoming serious.

"After I joined up with General Hawan, we searched for the target’s whereabouts together. We found the target, and General Hawan deployed drones. Following the target’s tracks, we discovered the hiding place of seven bandits. Originally thinking it was truly the bandits’ hideout, General Hawan’s artillery covered it all, blasting everything into ruins, killing everyone. But in the end, that wasn’t the case." White Whale said with unprecedented self-reproach and guilt.

"Wasn’t the case? What do you mean?" Hawk hurriedly asked.

"What got bombed wasn’t the bandits, but rather the hiding place of the Spine Team. The Spine Team is gone, completely destroyed, except for Amir and a few others who stayed by my side, everyone else was inexplicably blown to death." White Whale admitted shamefully.

"What? What did you say?" Hawk shouted, "Say that again?"

Hawk was completely out of control, on the verge of going berserk.

White Whale didn’t need to think hard to predict how deeply pained her brother must be. She said self-reproachfully, "Brother, you didn’t hear wrong. The Spine Team is done for, destroyed at my hands."

"How could such a thing happen? How could it happen?" Hawk was almost spitting blood.

White Whale didn’t know how to explain either, she could only mumble, "The enemy found the hiding place of the Spine Team, then used our eagerness to defeat the enemy to lure General Hawan’s artillery onto the Spine Team, resulting in this catastrophe."

Hawk really wanted to curse White Whale for being a fool, for not even being able to recognize the hiding place of the Spine Team, for watching the Spine Team’s demise with open eyes. To say this had nothing to do with White Whale is impossible.

But, given the situation, Hawk also couldn’t vent his anger by scolding White Whale.

The incident had already happened, and no amount of reluctance or regret would change that, it would only drag himself down.

The Spine Team was supposed to be the fearsome flagship of the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps. He thought, once the Spine Team made a move, they could easily kill the seven bandits and triumphantly return as usual, wiping out any enemies that emerged right away.

But never in his wildest imagination did he think such a thing would occur.

It was simply beyond expectations.

"Alas, is my Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps destined to suffer this fate?" Hawk sighed reluctantly, "If we can’t get through this calamity, it might truly be the end of us."

With the demise of the Spine Team, Hawk clearly recognized that the enemy’s power was likely even greater than imagined.

"Brother, there’s something else I can’t hide, I must tell you." White Whale said cautiously.

"Go ahead, nothing could be harder to accept than the destruction of the Spine Team." Hawk said absent-mindedly.

Faced with such events, concentrating was nearly impossible. White Whale had fainted from anger upon seeing the tragic state of the Spine Team; Hawk managing to contain his rage and killing intent obviously required every bit of self-control.

"I assumed the seven bandits were dead, so I killed General Hawan and then fled his camp. Now, General Hawan’s men are hunting us everywhere." White Whale said, utterly embarrassed.

"What? You? You!" Hawk was so angry he couldn’t speak.

Stammering accusations, he could only begrudgingly fall silent.

White Whale cautiously suggested, "Brother, I did it to get justice for Fifth Brother."

"Sister, you are foolish, so foolish. How could you be so audacious and reckless?" Hawk said, exasperated, "You acted first and reported later, playing it brilliantly, but turned our Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps’ steadfast ally into an enemy. When the Poison Dragon Mercenary Corps is facing such peril, what do you expect to do? You’ve taken us a step closer to a dead end."

"Brother, I was wrong. I didn’t expect things to escalate this far." White Whale admitted her mistake.

"Ah, forget it, let’s set everything else aside and do our best to retreat." Hawk sighed. Now, what else could he do? He could only have White Whale return and jointly face the formidable enemies.
