Chapter 850: Chapter 758: Medical Immortal’s Secret Transmission (13) [Double-Length]

Ever since she had bid farewell to Uncle Cloud Whale and the little old man, she had traversed many places in the world—vast plains and lush forests, as well as cities filled with towering buildings, meeting all kinds of people.

Her eyes could tell which of them were sick, and which were about to fall ill.

Whenever people encountered difficulties, she would do everything in her power to help them.

When she saw people take their medicine, recover from their illnesses, and show joyful smiles, her heart would follow along and feel happy too.

The little old man had exaggerated things too much—so long as she kept walking, one day she would cure everyone’s illnesses. Once everyone’s sicknesses were healed and all lived in peace and happiness, this world would naturally be cured as well.

Thinking of this, the Little Medical Immortal looked toward the steel fortress that had appeared in the distance, and once again set off on her journey.

...

Inside the fortress training ground, the boy’s fists were swift and fierce; with a single punch he scrapped the Titan that had charged up to him. The shrill screeching rang in Ning Yi’s ears; the noise made him irritable, and he shook his head hard.

He wanted to focus, but his gaze fell on his mechanized arm. After the Fortress No. 17 incident, all his limbs had been replaced with Fallen Angel prosthetics, which were likewise Gabriel’s suite of parts, making it convenient for him to connect directly to Gabriel.

For these two months, he had spent almost every day in pain and torment, forced through countless tests. The Legion had run experiment after experiment on his body; Ning Yi’s organs had been swapped out nearly from top to bottom, and even his heart had been replaced with an energy-supply device.

He could only watch with eyes wide open as his body was replaced piece by piece, turning into a non-human monster—perhaps after a single sleep, he’d wake up missing some part of himself.

Living every day in fear and unease, he was on the verge of being tortured into madness.

When will this end...

Why does it have to be him...

Agitated thoughts began to grow wild and savage, becoming stronger and stronger, veering toward an uncontrollable direction.

Just then, a howling rush of air sounded behind him; the last remaining Titan seized the moment of Ning Yi’s distraction, its steel fist raised high.

No one could see the boy’s movements clearly; they only saw half of the Titan’s body suddenly explode, exposing its shattered cockpit. Ning Yi turned back, his eyes blood-red.

The pilot, feeling the boy’s gaze brimming with hatred, felt a chill run down his spine.

The red lights above the training ground lit up one after another, and the shrill alarms spiraled through the air.

"D-don’t come any closer!"

Realizing that something was wrong with the boy’s state, the pilot let out a terrified shout.

This time, however, the warning could no longer restrain Ning Yi. He lunged at the Titan like a madman, ripping its components apart in a frenzy, like a runaway beast venting months of pent-up hatred.

Only when the red lights dimmed and the alarm stopped did Ning Yi come back to his senses from his daze; the Titan beneath him, along with its pilot, had been torn completely to pieces by him.

He stared at the blood on his hands, sinking into a long stupor.

He felt a vague panic—not at the fear of killing others, but at his own numbness.

After the outburst, there was no relief, no exhilaration, not even pain—only deathlike silence. It was like tossing a stone into a pool and watching it sink straight to the bottom without even a ripple.

Those people had truly transformed him into a monster.

The blood on his hands grew ever more vivid, like barbs stabbing into his pupils.

Ning Yi’s breathing grew heavy.

When exactly had he become like this?

Thud!

The blinding surgical light snapped on; as he came back from the Vortex of his thoughts, Ning Yi was already lying on the cold operating table. Shadowy figures whose faces he could not make out surrounded him, discussing something.

He no longer remembered how many times he had ended up here. This time, what would he lose?

"Tantalum-126 agent compatibility passed. Next, prepare to run tests on the subject’s amygdala."

As the image was projected, Ning Yi clearly saw a scene. It was a family of three; they appeared harmonious and content, gathered around the dining table, about to enjoy a lavish dinner.

This time, the experiment seemed different from the ones before. They were no longer taking his organs.

"What do you see?" the red-haired girl doctor asked.

Ning Yi: "I see the woman’s filthy kitchen apron—it’s covered in stove ash and hasn’t been changed in a long time."

"Anything else?"

"The bread is steaming hot; the two kids haven’t reached out for it. They’re looking at their father—but their father is reading the newspaper?" Ning Yi answered.

"And then?"

"The toes of the man’s leather boots have lost their polish; he must have lost a respectable job."

"The woman’s eyes are dodging, deliberately avoiding the man’s gaze. They just had a fight, and the two kids are scared."

The other doctors in the operating room said nothing.

To them, this was nothing more than the most ordinary scene: the woman, smiling, bringing the children hot bread; the man reading a finance section newspaper. The toes of his shoes had lost their polish, yes, but his beard was neatly combed, and there was a brand-new pair of leather boots sitting in the shoe cabinet.

It was obvious their experiment had succeeded.

Gabriel was driven by hatred, and they had modified Ning Yi’s amygdala. As long as it rejected all emotions other than hatred, the boy would become the optimal vessel for Gabriel.

In their eyes, all Ning Yi needed was endless hatred.

"Record the data," the red-haired doctor said.

The image froze, and then two vials of liquid were injected into Ning Yi’s arm. Two doctors came over and attached electrodes to the boy’s forehead.

"What did you inject me with?"

Ning Yi suddenly began to struggle desperately; the restraints went taut with a snap, the chip at the back of his neck flickered red, and the entire operating table shook violently!

"Damn you, what else are you going to do to me? I’ve had enough!"

"Stop, I’m telling you to stop!"

"I’ll kill you, I swear I’ll kill you all!"

The two doctors exchanged a glance.

They had just injected him with an overdose of dopamine and, by stimulating him with bioelectric currents, induced a pleasure that was theoretically a hundred times that of ’love’. Yet even so, the boy was still exhibiting an extreme rage response.

Seeing the operating table shaking more and more violently and faint cracks beginning to appear in the restraints, several doctors subconsciously stepped back.

At that moment, the red-haired doctor removed her mask, revealing a cool, detached face.

The operating room seemed to have been put on pause. The expressions on the doctors’ faces froze, and even the frenzied Ning Yi stopped moving.

"You’re... wait, I’ve never seen you before."

Ning Yi was stunned. He had no impression of this girl at all. Strangely enough, though, he hadn’t sensed any difference earlier.

"Shh." Chichu Chun placed her index finger against her lips.

"Tonight, chaos will break out in the fortress. I’ll leave a ticket at the mouth of the ventilation duct in Zone Left E-23."

"A ticket...?" Ning Yi blurted out. "You mean, I can leave this place?"

"That’s right. A ticket for the Heart’s Desire train. With it, you can go wherever you want."

"As for that chip at the back of your neck, I’ll find a way to deal with it for you."

"You only get this one chance."

As she spoke, Chichu Chun’s fingertip brushed along a doctor’s jawline, and without looking back she walked out of the operating room.

"Make good use of it."

Ning Yi watched Chichu Chun walking away.

"Wait, why are you helping me!"

"What’s your goal in using me!"

"Why—why are you only telling me this now? You could have helped me earlier, couldn’t you?"

"Don’t go, answer me!!"

Taking it as nothing more than an enraged beast’s roar, Chichu Chun paid him no heed, her gaze carrying a hint of pity.

He had already lost the ability to think rationally, completely reduced to a monster ruled by hatred.

She left him with a meaningful smile.

"When a beast is locked up, the first thing it should think about is when its master will let it out of the cage, not why it’s being let out."

"I suggest you use this time to think carefully about what it is you want most."
