Chapter 449: *Let’s bet*

Axel then said to them, "You should know that after this battle, representatives of the Shapeshifters will be invited each time to participate in the councils that we will organize to improve the lives of humans and demons in our territories, and as we have already proposed to you, all those who wish to do so will be able to return to live in the human cities. We will also create several free zones where you can loot blue and purple dungeons that will allow you to easily obtain resources, and if you wish, you can even create a Sect. We will be happy to help you; there are many Shapeshifters like me who, without Liam and other instructors, would never have been able to control their animal instincts. We need you to be able to guide the new generation."

The elders were very touched by what Axel had just said, and Kevin then said to them, "Take the time to think about it, make a council, and ask everyone’s opinion; when it is done, you can contact us at any time."

One of the elders then said to him, bowing his head, "My King, we will follow your advice and make a council but..."

He then frowned, worried for him. Kevin was a very considerate person and it would be a shame if something happened to him when he would undoubtedly be a great leader and a great King, so he told him, "My King, it’s not that I don’t have confidence in your abilities, but you seem very young, and you just accepted a hand-to-hand fight with the strongest among us, and he is also very experienced. You should not put yourself in danger like that."

Kevin then smiled at him and said, "Don’t worry, I have no intention of dying. I know perfectly well what I am doing, and even if Raven decided to throw all his men at me, they would have no chance of beating me."

Axel chuckled then, and he said as he put his arm around his shoulders, "I hope he won’t do that; otherwise I really feel sorry for them. After all, you only agreed to hand-to-hand combat against Raven; if the others get involved, they will suffer."

The elders of the Shapeshifters, seeing that their new King and Axel didn’t even feel threatened by Raven and his men, finally relaxed, and some even started to talk animatedly about this idea of creating a Sect where all the Shapeshifters could learn to control their animal instincts.

Creating a Sect would allow them to be recognized by the other humans, and they would have their own place among them while not depending on anyone.

It would become their new home, and they could share their knowledge with humans who would like to join them. It was an excellent idea, and as Axel had kindly suggested, the dungeons would provide them with the necessary resources for their development.

They were all still talking happily when Raven suddenly let out a ferocious growl that echoed throughout the Canyon, and he finally announced in a loud and powerful voice to be heard by anyone, "Today is a great day; I will fight the new King of the humans and prove to everyone that the Shapeshifters are superior to humans."

Kevin then stepped forward to join him and asked, "Besides proving to everyone that the Shapeshifters are superior to humans, what exactly do you want, Raven? Let’s bet; if you win, what do you want?"

Raven smirked; he didn’t expect that this human would be stupid enough to bet with him, but he told him without hesitation and without any shame, "I want to become the new King. If I beat you, it means you don’t deserve to be the leader of our territory; don’t you think so?"

Kevin smirked too and told him, "You still have a lot to learn if that’s what you think. A King is not necessarily the one who has to fight the best, but the one who will be able to put the good of his subjects first and protect them from any threats."

Raven snorted with disdain and asked him, "You can keep your wise advice for someone else... So, do you accept, or are you too afraid to lose?"

Kevin then said, putting his hood over his head to hide half of his face, "I accept; as for me, if I win, I want all the Shapeshifters who support you to lay down their weapons and not cause any trouble. Let’s be clear; if you’re not capable of being civilized, then either I’ll lock you up or I’ll make sure that you don’t have access to your energy reserves anymore." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

He added then, "You will become as helpless as those humans you hate so much, and if you have any doubts about whether or not I am really capable of doing that, I can assure you that I am. So, do you accept?"

Not having access to your energy reserves anymore... becoming as helpless as humans... who was this guy kidding?

No one could do such a thing... And even though the aura that this brat gave off was a little creepy since he had pulled his hood over his head, he was certainly not going to be fooled by him.

Raven then said to him, "I accept!"

He then announced aloud the rules of the fight and told everyone about the bet they had just made for the Shapeshifters to be their witnesses.

And just after that, they moved away from each other, and one of the elders who was usually in charge of taking care of the duels came forward. After glaring at Raven and his men, he sighed helplessly and started a countdown for the beginning of the fight.

The rules were simple; it was not a fight to the death, and the fight stopped when one of the two was unconscious, unable to continue the fight, or forfeited.
