Chapter 394: Messenger

"Goddess, mom. He has those eyes! Look! He has those eyes! They are bright gold!" Violet cried, staring down at where the pack was gathered below listening to their Alpha. "I don’t understand. Why is this happening? Why is that witch being allowed to take over our pack? Has she accomplished it already? But she is not even here! Has she possessed him from afar?"

Violet was hysterical. She thought that she had gotten through to Graeme at least a little bit the night before. It was a blessing that his memory had been affected at the time, because she could feel the mutability of his opinion. He was listening to Violet’s concerns, and he was protective of her. He had been right here in her bed, comforting her the way she could have only dreamed of prior. But now his eyes were golden, too. Just like the male from her nightmares. Just like that scheming mutant witch that he claimed was his mate.

"I am not safe here," she mumbled to herself. "He won’t protect me. He is one of them, too. No, not Graeme," she whimpered.

"Violet, you are not well," her mother walked forward, embracing her daughter from behind and trying to draw her away from her perch at the window.

Cressida didn’t know exactly what had happened to her daughter, but it was terrifying to hear her going on and on like this. It sounded as if she had truly lost her mind, and that scared her almost as much as the injuries Violet had that were not healing. She had tried talking with Beth about why her daughter wasn’t healing, but the healer didn’t have any helpful information. She tried saying it was as if Violet wasn’t even lycan anymore, which didn’t make any sense. All of this was a nightmare.

"Of course I am not well, mother!" Violet cried, shrugging Cressida’s hands off of her.

She refused to tear her eyes away from her male down below. Graeme was hers, she didn’t care what anyone else said. He was hers first, and somehow she was meant to help free him of this malicious delusion that was plaguing him and threatening the pack. But she feared it was too late.

"Why else would I have been attacked like this by some kind of monster that looks like her?" Violet hissed to herself. "I am meant to help free him. I need to get him to see that he is being controlled. Our whole pack is at risk. I saw Andreas walk into the fire last night, mother. No one was around, but I saw him walk into the fire like he was possessed!" her voice shook in terror as the memory played again in her mind.

Cressida watched her dear daughter begin trembling violently, but she didn’t know how to help her. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"That is madness, Violet. You can not have seen what you think you did," Cressida tried to tell her. "Andreas would not have done that, and there is nothing—no power—that could have made him." Cressida didn’t know that for certain, but she was not willing to believe that it was possible, and her daughter needed reassurance right now to bring her back from the brink of whatever insanity was trying to claim her. "If someone wanted to kill him, even Graeme, they would have just done it! There is no reason to..."

"Do you think I am mad? Do you think I imagined it? I am not seeing things, mother! It happened right before my eyes! And Graeme stood by watching it. He has been taken control of, and I thought... I thought for a moment that I had been given the chance to help bring him back. Last night he was here, in my room. Don’t you smell his scent? He was here. He was in my bed, and it was like he was himself again. He was the Graeme I remember, and he remembered me. He was worried about me. But now, his eyes... she had gotten control over him again, and... mom, I don’t know what is going to happen to me! I don’t know what is going to happen to this pack!"

"You have to stop this!" Cressida hissed, grabbing Violet roughly be the arms. "You have to stop this before you are heard. Do you want everyone to think you are crazy?"

"They need to hear! They need to be made aware of what is happening before it is too late!" Violet pulled away from her mother’s grasp and walked toward the door, determined to speak her truth before it was too late.

"You are not going down there like this!" Cressida called after her, her narrowed eyes growing wide with the horror at the sudden realization of what Violet had it in her mind to do. "Violet, come back here!"

Violet stormed out of her room in the medical wing, passing by a stunned Beth who watched the young female being trailed by her desperate mother who was trying to grab hold of her, but Violet kept pulling away defiantly. She had to figure out how to get the pack to see the truth of the danger they were in before it was too late. That witch who had insinuated herself into the Luna role was not here to reign over them at the moment, which hopefully meant that Violet still had a chance. This could be her only chance, because once that heir that everyone was whispering about was born, there would be no turning back. That heir and its mother would be their undoing.

"Violet, you are going to humiliate yourself! You are going to humiliate me!" her mother called desperately from behind her, her voice beginning to tremble at what she felt unfolding right before her eyes. Violet had lost her mind, and now she was going to rant about her delusions in front of the whole pack. What would they do to her? "Violet! You must stop!"

"You must stop trying to prevent me from doing the task I am meant for!" Violet whirled around. "I was attacked by someone who looks just like them! I was targeted and allowed to return so I could be a voice of reason for this pack, mother. Do not interfere with my destiny! I am a messenger!"
