Chapter 364: Hagrid Must Die
Meanwhile, outside the False World, Damian’s family had already arrived. The mist stretched across several streets like an endless white ocean, swallowing every sound within the city. Vehicles sat abandoned in the middle of the roads while their drivers remained asleep behind the steering wheels. Pedestrians lay peacefully upon sidewalks, benches and bus stops, frozen within dreams they would never remember. Only the members of Damian’s household moved through the silent world untouched by the supernatural slumber.
Loth had long separated herself from the others. She stood motionless beside the black SUV where Lith remained slumped over the steering wheel. His lifeless body had not moved since the attack began. One hand still rested upon the steering wheel while the other hung limply by his side. There wasn’t a struggle on his face. Whatever Hagrid had done had ended his life before he even realized danger had arrived.
Loth simply stared.
Her widened eyes refused to blink as though doing so would make this scene real. The silence surrounding her was far heavier than tears.
Several meters away, Racheal, Ruby, Hazel, Linda and Clara stood before the small crimson dome that covered several intersections. The barrier shimmered faintly like the surface of a lake, preventing anyone from seeing what was taking place within. Every passing second tightened the knot in their chests. Even Hazel, who had complete faith in Damian’s strength, could not hide the anxiety growing inside her.
KRASH!
The crimson barrier exploded into countless fragments of scarlet light before dissolving into the wind.
Everyone instinctively looked forward.
Damian was kneeling on one knee. His breathing was heavy. One hand pressed firmly against the ragged wound where his left arm had once been. Although the bleeding had already stopped, nearly half of his robes were soaked in dark blood while fresh flesh slowly regenerated from the torn shoulder at a pace far slower than his usual healing.
Clara instinctively covered her lips. Ruby’s eyes widened. Even Racheal looked genuinely surprised.
Hazel’s expression slowly stiffened.
"Hagrid did this?" she muttered in disbelief.
The injury itself wasn’t what shocked her. It was the fact that someone had pushed Damian this far.
Damian never answered.
His dull gaze merely swept across everyone present before settling upon the lone figure standing beside the SUV.
Without acknowledging anyone else, he slowly staggered forward. Every step left faint bloody footprints upon the pavement.
Loth finally looked toward him.
The moment their eyes met, everything she had been suppressing shattered. Tears rolled freely down her cheeks as she rushed into Damian’s embrace. He wrapped his remaining arm around her without saying a word.
His expression never changed.
Yet beneath that terrifying calm, a quiet rage burned more fiercely than anything they had ever witnessed.
He had never liked Lith.
For reasons even he could not fully explain, the two had never gotten along. Lith constantly sought his approval while Damian instinctively kept him at arm’s length.
But dislike was not hatred. Lith had still been one of his people. Someone placed under his protection. Someone who had died because Damian had failed to notice the enemy before it was too late.
For the first time in a long while he truly felt like he had failed.
Loth slowly pulled away from his embrace. Her face remained wet with tears, yet sorrow was gradually giving way to something colder.
She walked around Damian until she stood directly before Hazel. Her trembling fists clenched tightly.
"Your brother did this."
Her voice cracked. Then it hardened.
"If only your treasonous bastard brother had been killed after he nearly murdered Lin Qui. Lith would still be alive!" She pointed directly at Hazel.
The scream echoed across the silent streets.
Even Racheal and Ruby flinched. Hazel’s lips parted slightly, yet no words came. She couldn’t defend Hagrid. Not after what he had done.
Not after seeing Lith’s corpse.
"Don’t worry."
Damian’s cold voice came from behind Loth.
"This time... he will die."
His purple eyes glowed with murderous intent.
"And I will personally place his head in your hands."
Buzz!
Hazel’s face turned pale. She slowly lowered her head. She knew her brother had crossed a line even she could never defend. At least not with someone like Damian.
Without another word, Damian stretched out his remaining hand. The space before him silently split apart. Beyond it lay the familiar front lawn of the California mansion.
Damian stepped through first and Loth followed closely behind.
Clara and Linda suddenly felt an invisible force wrap gently around them before pulling them through the portal as well. The moment Damian stepped onto the grass, he immediately noticed Rah waiting quietly near the entrance.
She had clearly been expecting him. Their eyes met but neither spoke.
Rah’s gaze slowly drifted downward until it rested upon the empty shoulder where Damian’s arm was still regenerating. She could also see the dried blood covering nearly half his robes. Yet what unsettled her most wasn’t the wound.
It was Damian’s eyes.
The exhaustion within them felt deep. It wasn’t physical fatigue. Something inside him had fractured. Without making a scene, Rah quietly stepped aside.
Damian walked past her without slowing. He entered the mansion and walked upstairs. Opened his bedroom door. Then collapsed onto the bed without even bothering to change.
His remaining hand rested across his forehead while his eyes remained fixed upon the ceiling. Rin quietly appeared upon his chest in a burst of purple smoke before curling into a seated position.
The little fox simply watched him. Neither of them spoke for several minutes. Eventually Damian broke the silence.
"I’m tired."
His voice was unusually soft.
"I’m tired of always being the one reacting."
Rin slowly nodded.
"You want to turn the tables."
Damian nodded once.
"I want them to wake up every day wondering what I’ll do next."
His eyes slowly narrowed.
"I want them to be the ones living with anxiety. I want them to fear losing people."
"I want them to experience exactly what they’ve been putting us through."
Rin understood completely. He quietly folded his paws together before asking,
"So... what now?"
Damian remained silent for several seconds before answering.
"I have Clara. I know where the remaining factions are. There is nothing left keeping me on this planet."
He slowly sat upright upon the bed.
"I’ll eradicate every remaining religious faction then I’ll leave Earth."
He looked out through the bedroom window toward the night sky. Silence filled the room once again. If he truly wanted to fight his siblings. Then remaining here pretending to be an ordinary human was no longer an option.
Something had to change.
