Chapter 132: Awakener Powers
But that cry for help would go unanswered.
I arrived back at home. Wondering what I should do.
I decided to look into the guy that killed Layla.
I pulled up his file in the FBI database.
Subject #2607, Name: Tyrell DeShawn. Age: 32. Employment Record: Drug Dealer, Car Theft, Chop Shop, Scamming the Elderly. Arrest Record: Drug Possession (6 Months in minimum security prison).
I was a bit confused, what kind of employment record was that?
This guy was a true scumbag.
Then it dawned on me. This only shows how he made money and what he got caught doing. Not what he actually did.
Otherwise murder and arson would also be on the list.
So he has done more wrong than is told here.
Power: Fire related. He can create and control fire. However he loses control if the fire is not in his direct control. Ex. If he lights a campfire he can no longer control the fire. Any fire that has been "used" he cannot control. His control is limited to shape manipulation and heat manipulation. Both within a certain range. He has also experienced a minor boost to physical ability.
Security risk: Minimal. The subject is arrogant and careless. While he can melt bullets a single sniper shot will eliminate the subject.
Decision: Wait and see. He may be useful at a later date. Restrict information regarding the subject.
Interesting, they have a pretty good amount of information on this guy. They even have a way to kill him if they ever needed to.
I can understand why the government would want to hide the existence of people with powers, but why would they not grab this guy and take him to a lab to do tests on?
If there was ever a guy to do human experiments on it would be this degenerate piece of shit.
Why risk exposure over a loose cannon like this guy?
I can’t fathom what the government is thinking.
I can only look into what other powers and awakeners are out there. Because, we have the power of fire, what else is out there?
Subject #2606, one higher than Tyrell, they also had the same fire ability.
Ok, let’s try a very different number.
Subject #1204, Clair Vermont, has both a water and ice ability.
Subject #1408, John Jackson, has the ability to make others hallucinate.
Subject #3412, Blair Valley, has physical enhancement ability.
Subject #3000, Jordan Cracker, has super strength ability.
While I was looking through the abilities I noticed something. Some people could have the same ability but some would be stronger than others.
Take Tyrell for example. His ability was pretty minor considering his number partner Subject #2606, his ability was the same but it was a grade stronger.
He could create and control more fire, with better control and a higher power ceiling. He was basically an upgraded version of Tyrell.
The only difference was that he was an upstanding citizen. A firefighter, as ironic as that is.
I also noticed that some abilities look similar but are actually different. For example one person had an agility ability while another had a super speed ability. Those should be pretty similar, right?
Wrong.
Speed is how fast you can move your body from Point A to Point B in a single, intended direction. Agility is the ability to rapidly accelerate, decelerate, change direction, and stabilize your body while maintaining control.
In short, super speed is about going as fast as possible, like sprinting. You can’t make quick turns while sprinting all out. You can turn but they will be wide arcing turns. While agility isn’t that fast it has way more control.
I would say that super speed is good for traveling long distances while agility is good for more combat oriented speed.
But, the point is that abilities vary greatly depending on the specifics of what you get.
The examples I have seen so far are pretty generic but every once and a while I will see an ability that stands out.
Like elasticity, it allows the subject’s body to behave like rubber.
Or another, the subject developed a precise Polycoria that enhances visual ability, including reflexes and physical abilities. This person developed another pupil that has increased their depth perception and reflexes. It also increased their physical abilities to keep up with their other abilities.
Another can summon a weapon that also increases their physical abilities.
Someone else gained the ability to heal, while another gained the ability to increase regeneration.
Two similar abilities that do different things.
The strangest I have seen so far is Subject #6. It is a girl who has developed the ability to cast magic.
She has earned the nickname "witch". Because she doesn’t use magic circles. No. She uses that old school witchcraft. The kind that uses chicken feet, cauldrons, and creepy chants.
Her curses and hexes really work. But that is not the limitation to her abilities. She can also heal, create zombies, mud creatures, and even make barriers to hide herself in the woods.
Her last known location was in Washington State.
While at Subject #6 I noticed Subject #9 was a familiar name, Aerial.
Subject #9, Aerial, has the ability to fly. That also comes with increased physical abilities and reaction speed. She has been very forthcoming and willing to help find out more about abilities.
She has participated in a number of experiments and has shown the ability to grow. On occasion she has undergone some kind of metamorphosis that has increased her ability to fly and enhanced her physical abilities.
Note. From her tests it is possible that all awakeners have the ability to grow. However, what causes that phenomenon is still currently unknown.
You can upgrade your ability? Maybe that is the case for them, but my ability seems very different from theirs.
Then I noticed Subject #3, he possesses the ability of a technopath. He can freely manipulate technology that exists and merge them to create what he desires.
This is the guy that Xue Qing was talking about. The one who created a power suit and is building his house on a nature preserve.
