Chapter 283: The Darkmane Tribe’s Last Stand [Part 2]
As the guardian of the Darkmane Tribe burned in flames, a loud laugh reached Troy’s ears.
"Hahaha! To think the Darkmane Tribe would only amount to this!" a cloaked man riding on a Wyvern shouted. "You have fallen, Troy."
"So it’s you, Rhogar," Troy said calmly, recognizing the voice of one of the high-ranking officials from the Bonegnash Tribe.
The cloaked man no longer bothered to hide beneath the hood, soon revealing a very familiar face to Troy.
"The least I can do is show you the face of the man who will soon send you to the afterlife." Rhogar sneered.
"How did you do it?" Troy asked as the battle around him intensified. "How did you and Osteon do this?"
"It’s quite simple, really," Rhogar replied. "The Monster King and the Bonegnash Tribe just have the same goal this time around."
Troy narrowed his eyes at those words. The Bonegnash Tribe only wanted one thing.
Of course, he knew what it was very well. After all, all the high-ranking tribes had long pursued the same goal over the years.
The seat of the Barbarian King of the Borderlands.
"Although it’s a shame Godwin isn’t here, I’m glad all the chieftains are gathered in one place," Rhogar said. "Once all of you are eliminated, the Bonegnash Tribe will rule the Borderlands!"
"And in exchange, you will give Eden to the Bronze Dragon, right?" Troy finally understood how the Bonegnash Tribe was able to negotiate with the Monster Army.
"You’re right." Rhogar didn’t even bother to lie about this fact. "It’s a win-win situation for us."
"Hah..." Troy sighed. "I knew I should have destroyed the Bonegnash Tribe when I had the chance."
"In your dreams." Rhogar sneered in return. "You can’t even defeat a measly Aslan Tribe, and you still dare to set your eyes on us? What foolish thoughts."
"I understand everything now." Troy nodded. "Now you can die."
Just as Rhogar was about to scoff at Troy’s nonsense, he suddenly found himself being pulled off from his mount.
Then, the next thing he knew, he was falling towards the ramparts, exactly where Troy stood.
"Nooooooooooo!" Rhogar shouted in panic as he found himself falling towards the Chieftain of the Darkmane Tribe, who already had his sword mid-swing.
A second later, the man’s head was severed from his body.
Rhogar’s head rolled a few meters along the ramparts before coming to a stop. Even in his death, he didn’t know how he died.
The blue ring on Troy’s finger glowed faintly. It was a magical artifact that allowed him to pull targets that were twenty meters away from him. But not only that, it also allowed Troy to pull himself towards a target of his choosing, similar to how a magnet would stick to metal when thrown at it.
When pulling things towards him, the only condition he needed to fulfill was that his target must not weigh more than him for this ability to work.
And for him to stick to something, the target must be heavier so that he could pull himself to that location.
Troy was as tall as Ulric and was even more buff than him. He was a warrior who also dabbled in magical artifacts, making him a very dangerous opponent in one-on-one battles.
This was why he had been able to easily pull Rhogar closer to him, catching the enemy by surprise.
The Bronze Dragon had ignored Troy earlier. Though, after seeing that he had killed one of his collaborators, it decided to focus its attention on him.
With a deafening roar, the Dragon circled around the fortress before diving down to crush the barbarian chieftain with its jaws.
Troy remained unfazed as he waited for the monster to be a couple dozens of meters away from him.
When he deemed that the moment was right, the chieftain of the Darkmane Tribe decided to... jump up.
But, after reaching his peak height, he didn’t fall back to the ground. Instead, he continued to fly up.
The Bronze Dragon missed his target, who had used his blue ring to propel himself towards the dragon’s back with his sword poised to strike.
Sparks flew as Troy’s sword clashed with the Dragon’s scales. It was simply too tough for him to even put a dent on its body.
The Bronze Dragon was annoyed by the bastard who had climbed onto its back, so it did a roll in the sky in an attempt to throw the barbarian away.
However, Troy held on, using his magical artifact to cling onto the monster’s back.
With an angry roar, the Dragon called out to its subordinates to attack Troy.
Dozens of Harpies heeded their King’s call and soon flew towards the Dragon’s back.
Troy prepared himself for battle, only to see one of the Harpies get pierced by a bolt that seemed to have come from the Aslan Tribe.
After eliminating the Harpy Queen, Otto then focused his attention on the other strong threats in the battlefield.
It was then that he saw Troy’s daring attempt to attack the Dragon by himself.
Because of that, when he saw that the Harpies were moving in the chieftain’s direction, he decided to provide cover fire, preventing them from interfering with Troy.
One after the other, bolts began to pierce through the harpies’ bodies, sending them crashing to the ground.
But even then, it was simply impossible for Troy to evade the Harpies’ attack.
And so, what he did was simple.
He jumped off from the Dragon’s back and used his ability to pull himself towards one of the Pterandons flying near the dragon.
Naturally, the monster was shocked that someone had actually dared to mount its back without permission.
(A/N: Perverts.)
Yet, Troy didn’t care. He pointed the red ring on his finger at the Dragon’s head before unleashing a fireball, which slammed directly against the monster’s head.
The fireball didn’t do much damage. However, it did effectively anger the dragon, making it roar in anger.
Without warning, it unleashed a Dragon’s Breath toward Troy, who was still riding on the Pteranodon’s back.
The chieftain didn’t hesitate to jump off the monster he was riding and flew away.
To no surprise, the Fire Breath annihilated all the flying monsters in its path, making the other monsters scatter in fear that they might become the Dragon’s next target.
Troy watched all of this unfold as a cold laughter escaped his lips.
Yes, he might die today. But he would make sure his death would be worthy of his name.
