Chapter 695: Chapter 695: Not Giving Any Face At All!
News that Wu Chuan and the others had been captured quickly spread to Sea City. Wu Heng was furious.
Old Master Wu was even more incensed, his beard bristling and his eyes bulging. "Idiot! Didn’t I tell him to wait for Jun? That guy is a complete waste of space! No, not just a waste of space—he’s worse than useless, a downright troublemaker! He creates more problems than he solves!"
Wu Heng sighed. "The kid probably wanted to atone for his past mistakes and earn some merit, but he didn’t expect to run into the Heavenly Supervision Hall and get caught."
"It seems we can only wait for news from Jun now," Old Master Wu said. "Call Jun immediately! Tell him to ransom Wu Chuan and those other good-for-nothings. Don’t let them keep embarrassing our family."
"Master, must we really bother with those good-for-nothings?" the butler couldn’t help but ask from the side.
"Nonsense! Even if it’s just for show, we have to ransom them. Otherwise, how could our other men continue to work for us with any peace of mind?" Old Master Wu snapped irritably. "It would be one thing if it were just that good-for-nothing Wu Chuan, but a significant number of our people were captured this time. If we don’t rescue them, what will our subordinates think? We still rely on those people to get things done for us."
"You’re right, Master." The butler nodded.
And so, the Wu Family called Wu Jun and instructed him to ransom Wu Chuan and the others. Freeing these good-for-nothings cost the Wu Family a staggering one hundred million Dragon Coins. But not ransoming them wasn’t an option. Therefore, they planned to put their "waste" to use. Since they had been ransomed, these people would have to continue working.
Naturally, that one hundred million went straight into the coffers of the Star Shining Society. While not a huge sum, it certainly wasn’t insignificant.
After ransoming Wu Chuan, Wu Jun listened to his detailed report and concluded that Yang Qi must be unhappy with the Wu Family for their lack of respect.
"Heh, I’ll go invite him personally. That should be enough," Wu Jun sneered. "I’m giving him more than enough face. Besides, he’s a dead man walking, so there’s no point in fussing over someone like him. You’re such a useless fool you can’t even handle a simple task like this. Watch and learn."
Wu Jun went straight to Whitestone Manor, as he’d heard Yang Qi was working there as a security guard.
The Wolf Guards at the gate reported the matter to Yang Qi. He frowned. Is this never-ending?
He walked out with a grim expression. Before he could even speak, Wu Jun lunged forward for a bear hug. "My dear cousin! You’ve had it rough."
Yang Qi deftly sidestepped the embrace. "If you have something to say, then say it. Keep your hands to yourself. And who are you supposed to be?"
A flicker of annoyance and malice flashed through Wu Jun’s eyes before he plastered on another smile. "My dear cousin, I’m your older cousin! Your mother, Wu Rouman—she was my aunt!"
Yang Qi frowned. Truthfully, if these people had genuinely come to find him, he might have been touched. But he already knew why this filthy family was looking for him, so his expression remained as cold as ever.
"I don’t have an older cousin, and I don’t know you. Please leave," Yang Qi said coldly.
"Cousin, I know you resent us for not looking for you all these years! But it truly wasn’t that we didn’t want to. After you were lost in Kang City, we searched for years but never found you. Originally, your maternal grandfather—my grandfather—said he would come personally to bring you home. Unfortunately, the old man is in seclusion and can’t come out, so he could only send me. It’s easier for us to talk anyway, being from the same generation. My name is Wu Jun, the eldest son of the Wu Family Head, Wu Heng."
He stated his identity plainly, to signify the importance the Wu Family was placing on this matter.
"I know you must have your reservations, but there’s no need to worry. My father has already publicly announced that you are officially a member of the Wu Family. And I’m not the only one who came. Many of the other younger members from our generation are here too. We’ve prepared a grand welcome with lanterns and red banners that stretch for miles! We want all of Sea City to know that you, Yang Qi, have returned to the Wu Family! That you are one of us now!
"Once you return to the Wu Family, you can do whatever you want. If you want to be a playboy, living a life of indulgence, no problem. We’ll deposit one billion Dragon Coins directly into your account. If you’d rather be a boss, that’s fine too. We’ll give you a company with a market value of ten billion to manage. If you want to live in the Wu Family’s grand residence, we’ll prepare the highest-grade private courtyard for you—even better than mine. Whatever woman you like, we’ll help you pursue her. Whoever provokes you, we’ll take care of them for you. From now on, you are a Wu, and the Wu Family will be your strongest backer."
What sweet talk. He was just short of offering the position of Family Head directly to Yang Qi. Of course, he couldn’t exaggerate too much, or it would sound fake. Still, how many people could resist such a temptation?
Unfortunately, it was all a lie. Everything was just bait to lure Yang Qi to his death at the Black Evil Sect. In the end, Yang Qi would get nothing. The only thing awaiting him was death.
Yang Qi smiled.
Wu Jun smiled, too.
He shot a smug glance at Wu Chuan, thinking, Look, *this* is how it’s done. I ask you, who could resist a temptation like this? Especially a penniless nobody like him. Why were you so timid? You have to make big promises! Paint a grand picture! It’s not like you have to follow through, so why were you being so honest?
Wu Chuan thought to himself, I, at least, still have some shame. You’re utterly shameless.
However, if Yang Qi agreed, he would benefit as well. If the Wu Family was pleased, his own punishment might be waived.
Just as the two were lost in their own schemes, Yang Qi’s voice cut through the air. "Wu Jun, is it? I’ll say it again: I don’t have an older cousin, and you are certainly not worthy of the title. The Wu Family has even less right to demand anything of me. I don’t give a damn about the Wu Family. If you people keep harassing me, don’t blame me for being discourteous."
"What did you say?"
Wu Jun was completely stunned. He couldn’t believe his ears. Did those words really just come out of Yang Qi’s mouth? He had just rejected such an incredible offer? Even more shockingly, this guy had the gall to say that he, Wu Jun, wasn’t fit to be his cousin? That he didn’t take the Wu Family seriously?
"I’ve said what I needed to. You can leave now. I need to rest." After speaking, Yang Qi turned and walked back into Whitestone Manor.
Wu Jun tried to rush in but was stopped by a group of Wolf Guards.
Wu Chuan recognized the Wolf Guards and quickly pulled Wu Jun back. "Young Master, be careful! These people are all formidable. Don’t be rash."
Wu Jun’s face turned utterly grim. He viciously kicked Wu Chuan, then turned and got into his car.
He was absolutely furious. How dare that brat disrespect him like that? Did he even know who he was? He was the heir of the Wu Family’s third generation! His father was the Family Head! Even if he himself wasn’t exceptionally skilled, no stinking beggar had the right to humiliate him. How outrageous! Since the brat refused to show him any respect, he would have to resort to force.
Wu Jun fumed, his anger swelling with every thought, "That bastard! That ungrateful wretch. He’s just a sacrifice, and he really thinks he’s somebody."
