Chapter 256: A Relic That Interrupts Telepathy
The loud, sudden words echoed massively throughout the silent and tense atmosphere of Bowstring Bay.
The seriousness of the awaited meeting between the demons and Ryan’s army shattered in a single second.
Ryan stopped his steps on the narrow stone line and looked at the loud demon girl with visible confusion. He furrowed his brow a bit, trying to search his memories for the face of that woman pointing at him with such familiarity and panic.
Right on his left side, Beatrice stopped her march and looked the demon girl up and down with her cold violet eyes.
Then, Beatrice turned her face to look directly at Ryan, tilting her head with a clear expression of doubt.
"Perverted demon king?" she murmured in a low voice, repeating the unusual and embarrassing title she had just heard.
Behind them, the great commotion quickly spread to the rest of the main assault group.
Karol, Irina, and Mirian, after carefully climbing down from the heavy scaly backs of their wyverns, were also quite surprised. The three girls froze in their place, processing the strange reception.
Mirian took a step forward, gripping her bow tightly, and commented with a mix of indignation and disbelief.
"Did she say that to Ryan?"
As the chaos of murmurs began to grow among the troops of both sides, the leader of Morrisen reacted.
Ophelia, the imposing and feared demon queen, was standing right in the center of the formation. She had the palm of her right hand resting on her forehead, covering her eyes with evident annoyance.
Ophelia sighed heavily, as if thinking her subordinate was incredibly reckless and stupid for these kinds of situations.
Upon seeing the queen’s expression, Ryan advanced toward them with calm steps.
He ignored the curious gazes of the demon guards and stopped right in front of the woman who had yelled at him.
"You are..." Ryan took a small pause, searching for the right name in his head. "Roky."
"I am Roxy!" the demon girl immediately complained, lowering her finger and crossing her arms with a clear, childish pout of annoyance.
Upon hearing such a direct interaction, Mirian stepped a little closer to evaluate her leader’s supposed acquaintance.
Mirian looked at Roxy with her sharp archer’s eyes, scanning the demon woman from head to toe. But almost automatically and inevitably, the blonde’s gaze landed straight on the girl’s massive cleavage.
"Huge," Mirian murmured under her breath, feeling a sudden and immense blow to her own feminine pride upon comparing sizes.
At that precise moment, the tension in the place changed when another imposing demon woman moved from her position.
She bore a great physical resemblance to Roxy, but her face was much more severe and she displayed a purely military attitude.
"Roxy, tell me the truth right now, where do you know this human from?" the demon woman asked, quickly approaching Roxy with authority.
Roxy shrugged a bit at her superior’s strict tone, feeling cornered by the question.
"Yes... sister, it is just that he was in the great tower of Armenes right during my watch shift," Roxy explained with a nervous voice.
She fiddled with her fingers a bit before dropping the final bomb. "And he saw me completely naked in that place."
Roxy said, looking at him out of the corner of her eye with an expression of feigned shyness.
"What?" Roxy’s sister asked immediately, her eyes widening in surprise.
"What! What!" Karol, Irina, and Mirian screamed in unison from behind, feeling their blood boil with jealousy.
"What?" Alicia murmured, bringing both hands to her mouth, unable to believe her king’s tremendous nerve.
Both Roxy’s sister and all the beautiful girls in Ryan’s group were surprised. The heroines’ murderous glares dug straight into Ryan’s broad back.
In the midst of all that thick atmosphere of feminine jealousy, a loud and mocking voice broke the ice.
Ivis let out a huge burst of laughter, resting her hands on her waist as she looked at the mortals’ embarrassing scene.
"You do not waste time at all, you sure are fast," the imposing dragon woman mocked with a smile full of malice.
Ryan, for a long and heavy moment, felt truly embarrassed and cornered by the uncomfortable situation. The main reason for his internal discomfort was that absolutely everyone in the desert place was fixing their intense gazes on him.
But, making immense use of his mental control and his experience, he maintained his usual calm without showing any expression that would give him away in front of his troops.
His face remained as cold and hard as a stone.
"Roxy, explain properly and in detail what really happened in that place," the older sister ordered with a deep voice.
"Well..." Roxy swallowed hard upon feeling the intense pressure, and quickly looked toward her queen seeking support.
"It was largely my lady Ophelia’s direct fault, she was the one who forced me to strip naked in front of him without prior notice..."
"Eh?" Roxy’s sister murmured, now feeling doubly confused by her own queen’s sudden and dark implication.
Smack.
A dry, direct blow echoed on the top of Roxy’s head, cutting off her excuses immediately.
"Just shut up once and for all," Ophelia complained, lowering her hand after striking her loud subordinate without any kind of mercy.
The demon queen had a slight pink tint on her cheeks, probably remembering exactly everything that happened in that dungeon with Ryan minutes before running into Roxy.
The girls in Ryan’s group listened to the whole strange story halfway and drew their own childish conclusions.
"But... Your Majesty... that is not fair at all," Alicia complained in a very low voice, taking a hesitant step forward.
The loyal wolf assistant looked at the stone floor, clasping her hands in front of her chest with a lot of frustration and shyness.
"It is not fair for you to do those kinds of things in secret when you have a whole group of beautiful girls waiting for you alone."
Alicia looked up slightly, letting out her true, deep feelings on pure impulse. "Even me..."
"You?" Mirian intervened suddenly, turning her neck so fast she almost hurt herself upon hearing the always-strict wolf girl’s sudden confession.
"No, no, I mean," Alicia took two steps back, feeling her face burn completely with immense embarrassment.
"I mean that even to me it seems somewhat exaggerated and out of place for our King to do that..." Alicia tried to fix it, nervously averting her gaze.
"Enough, this topic is over, absolutely nothing of what you are thinking happened," Ryan said with a loud and firm voice, imposing his authority before the misunderstanding could grow any further.
’Well, at least none of that happened with Roxy...’ Ryan thought to himself, remembering the intense session he did have with Ophelia in that tower.
After clearing up the false accusations and calming the waters of jealousy, the meeting resumed its military course.
"Your Majesty, do you really trust that strange human man for this mission?" Roxy’s serious sister commented, looking at Ryan with total distrust.
She could not believe that the fate of their invasion depended on a pervert with a group of loud women.
Ophelia lowered her hand and looked Ryan straight in the eyes, letting a beautiful and dangerous smile adorn her face.
"Of course I trust him, Ryan is undeniably the best human I know in this world," she said, smiling with a very mischievous look laden with a double meaning that only the two of them understood.
And then, the demon queen directed her sharp red gaze toward the strong human women in Ryan’s group, subtly marking her territory.
"And if there really are humans better than him, I assure you I do not know them."
Then, Ophelia wiped away her flirtatious smile, crossed her arms under her breasts, and slowly turned toward Roxy’s sister.
Her aura of crushing power filled the place. "Or are you insinuating right here that my plans have some flaw, Keren?"
"No, no, Your Majesty, not at all," she said in terror and quickly bowed in a deep apology.
"Please, forgive my massive impertinence, it will not happen again."
"Yes, yes," Ophelia said, walking elegantly, passing right by her and waving a hand in front of her own face, completely downplaying the boring disciplinary matter.
And after ignoring her guards, the queen of Morrisen planted herself right in front of Ryan’s tall figure.
Both leaders remained in complete silence, staring deeply into each other’s eyes in the middle of the desert.
"Just what the hell is going on exactly between you two, you are looking at each other in a very strange way," Karol commented from behind, frowning upon noticing the intense and palpable electric tension in the air.
"I also got that same impression upon seeing them," Beatrice added in a murmur, analyzing the highly intimate and confident body language they both shared without even speaking to each other.
Ophelia completely ignored the heroines’ jealous and constant comments behind her back.
The demon queen took another step forward, closing the distance with Ryan, and reached her right hand directly into the cleavage of her dark robe.
She rummaged for a brief second under everyone’s attentive gaze and then pulled out a metallic object that shone under the cold northern light.
The object had a round shape, looking more like a decorated antique human pocket watch.
"Could that be...?" Ryan asked, keeping his gaze fixed on the object.
"Yes, it is," Ophelia said with a serious voice, extending her hand forward to give it directly to Ryan.
"This ancient relic is the one that will completely cut off the demons’ and dragons’ annoying telepathy during our attack."
