Chapter 230: Ivis’ Secret
Not much time had passed since Ivis entered the portal, and with her came the news that Ophelia had already decided on a date for the conflict with the Demon King.
After Ivis, somehow managed to make her telepathy link with her and Ophelia. They had managed to establish a fluid conversation.
’So in four days...’ Ryan quickly processed in his mind. He remained perfectly still in his spot, taking in the deadline imposed by Ophelia’s voice in his head.
He had already imagined that the entire process would likely take place very quickly.
Continuing to drag out the time to act could play heavily against him for multiple reasons. There were too many risk factors floating around him right now.
Whether it was because the church discovered his secret location in the immense sky dungeon. Or simply because the unpredictable Ophelia got involved in some other unnecessary fight on her own.
Either way, in any case, four days was an ideal number for Ryan. Right now he could lay out a clear plan to strengthen himself before the violent fight with a demon king.
That margin of time would give him enough hours to prepare all the inhabitants and warriors of the village. Besides, Runa and Mika’s new creations would likely be ready by that date as well.
At least they would have enough talismans to equip most of the girls in his party. And of course, also the elves and demi-humans who would help in this battle.
"Sounds good to me." Ryan commented out loud.
He spoke looking forward, in direct response to Ophelia’s telepathic voice.
"We will be ready in four days. No, even before that." Ryan added with absolute firmness.
Then, Ophelia’s voice returned to his head. She began to explain in detail the plan she intended to put into motion in four days.
Ryan closed his eyes for a moment and listened to every single one of her words with complete attention.
It was a plan that wasn’t complex at all.
In fact, the main idea was quite simple and direct for a large-scale attack. After telling Ryan everything without leaving any loose ends, Ophelia took a brief pause.
She insisted that she had many important things to prepare on her own end.
And without saying another word, Ophelia left, cutting the mental connection abruptly.
The strange pressure in Ryan’s head completely disappeared, returning the usual silence to him.
Ivis, who still kept her forehead resting on the back of Ryan’s neck, finally moved.
The dragon woman slowly pulled away from him, breaking the unusual and intimate physical contact she had used to link the communication. Ryan let out a soft breath under the dark collar of his trench coat and took two steps forward.
He turned to face the three girls who were looking at him with immense expectation.
"In four days we will attack Demon King Rigal." Ryan informed his party.
His deep voice resonated loudly on the immense and empty one hundredth floor of the dungeon.
"You must prepare yourselves as much as you can." He ordered, making the gravity of the situation clear.
Helen reacted instantly to the exciting news.
The black-haired warrior approached him with quick steps, completely forgetting the exhaustion from the system’s recent punishment.
"Good, I was already waiting for this." Helen said.
She clenched both her fists right in front of her face, showing an immense and renewed energy.
"I will finally level up." Helen added with a smile full of pure anticipation for the battle.
Mirian, for her part, maintained a slightly more analytical attitude regarding the sudden declaration of war.
The archer kept a very faint smile on her face.
She crossed her arms under her chest, as if trying to imagine the harsh consequences of what could happen during this confrontation.
"When we are all together in the village, I will explain Ophelia’s plan in detail." Ryan said with a monotone voice.
He didn’t want to waste time repeating the same tactical information twice. The three girls nodded at the same time, accepting the order without asking further questions.
The atmosphere in the gray room already felt much heavier and more focused.
But then, Ivis turned around.
She slowly approached the bright light of the magical portal behind them, ready to return to the village.
Before crossing, Ivis stopped dead and let out a few short words.
"Perhaps I should leave now. So that you can continue doing your morbid things freely." Ivis said with her usual calm tone.
Ryan let out a long, heavy sigh upon hearing the clear provocation.
’I knew she would mention it. Anyway, it will be best if I immediately inform Beatrice and Karol to return to the village.’ Ryan thought, lightly rubbing his temple with one finger.
He knew Ivis’s disinterested personality well enough to expect an untimely comment from her.
Helen’s reaction was immediate, violent, and loud.
"Shut up, lizard." Helen grumbled, bearing her teeth with evident annoyance.
The warrior took an aggressive step toward the imposing dragon woman.
"In the first place, you had no reason to come and interrupt anything."
Ivis didn’t flinch in the slightest at Helen’s enormous hostility.
"Interrupt?" Ivis said, letting a clear tone of irony escape her voice.
She turned her face slightly, looking at the furious warrior over her shoulder.
"I came exactly when I realized you had already finished."
Helen furrowed her brow deeply, feeling insulted by what she considered an obvious lie.
"Realized what, you say?" Helen retorted, raising her voice much higher to defend her pride.
"As if it were possible to know that, with you being on the other side of the portal."
Helen knew that the magical laws of the portal blocked any kind of outside information.
Then Irina, who had remained completely quiet until now, decided to intervene. The elf princess dared to take a couple of steps forward, approaching the tense argument.
"Lady Ivis." Irina called out with her soft and respectful tone.
"Before entering the portal to the dungeon, you clearly said that Ryan and Helen were about to finish."
Irina looked at the dragon woman with genuine doubt shining in her large eyes.
"Why exactly did you say that?"
Irina’s simple words echoed immediately in Ryan’s analytical mind.
’It also seemed very strange to me.’ Ryan thought, staring intently at Ivis under the shadows of their surroundings.
’She entered the dungeon just a few seconds after the debt had completely ended. I do not believe at all that such perfect timing was a simple coincidence.’
Ryan crossed his arms, waiting to see how Ivis would answer the elf’s logical question.
Ivis turned completely around and took a step forward to give an answer.
"Isn’t it obvious? That is because I heard you clearly from the other side of the portal the entire time." Ivis said with evident annoyance in her voice. She spoke so calmly, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
The immense dungeon room fell into complete and absolute silence for a long second. The girls processed Ivis’s impossible claim with clear disbelief.
"But, Lady Ivis." Irina said, slowly shaking her head.
"I have been living inside this village for many years."
Irina pointed a hand toward the flickering light of the ancient portal.
"There is no possible way we can hear anything from the inside over to this side..."
Irina said, deeply puzzled by the confident and illogical answer she had just received.
"I can’t hear anything from the other side of the portal either." Mirian murmured from behind.
The archer narrowed her eyes, supporting the elf princess’s undeniable logic.
Ryan watched the entire exchange in silence.
He knew perfectly well that what Irina was saying was the truth. Even for himself, with all his boosted stats, it was impossible to achieve something like that.
But then, a crucial detail crossed Ryan’s mind. He also clearly noticed how Ivis realized that Mirian and Irina were going to enter the portal a few minutes ago.
She knew it and warned him with her gaze even before the portal reacted with its usual buzz.
It is impossible for him to hear what goes on inside the village.
And that is despite standing on the gray stone just a few short meters away from the magical entrance to the village.
Despite the fact that he himself is supposed to be the new owner of the place.
All that meant only one thing for the king of the village.
Ivis wasn’t lying.
’She has truly fascinating capabilities.’ Ryan thought.
He looked right at the dragon woman, recognizing the immense value of her hidden skills.
Ivis let out a long sigh in her spot, looking slightly tired by the group’s doubts.
And then, she raised both hands in a slight gesture of surrender.
"Alright." Ivis said calmly.
"Since we will be allies in this war, I suppose there is no problem with this."
She lowered her arms and looked Ryan right in the eyes.
"I suppose there is no problem if I explain how my power works."
