Chapter 23: Cat Revenge Plan
After an entire series of dramatic operations, Byeol eventually became so exhausted that it lay there panting with its tongue hanging out like a dog.
Yet Joo Joowon still showed absolutely no reaction at all.
He even started snoring comfortably.
Honestly, Joo Joowon could not really be blamed for sleeping this deeply.
Ever since he started working office jobs and sitting indoors all day, there had not been a single day where his physical activity came anywhere close to what he experienced today.
Although sleeping too deeply in the apocalypse was certainly not a good thing, expecting an ordinary person with relatively decent sleep quality to remain constantly alert while sleeping during the early stages of the apocalypse was simply asking too much.
The revenge plan had completely failed.
Byeol resentfully stared at Joo Joowon while angrily sharpening its claws against the scratching board and silently cursing him in its heart.
Whenever it got thirsty from all the furious glaring, it would run off to drink water before returning to continue glaring and complaining.
"You’re going to be late for work! You’re going to be late for work!"
Early in the morning, the alarm clock loudly began its daily screaming performance.
Joo Joowon instinctively sat upright in bed and turned off the alarm.
He stared blankly at the wall for a while before finally regaining full awareness.
He let out a yawn.
The status panel floating before his eyes and the soreness throughout his body both reminded him that everything he experienced was not a dream.
Joo Joowon scratched his hair and could not help letting out a miserable groan.
"Big mistake. I should have done some stretching before sleeping!"
For people who rarely exercised, intense physical activity was always followed by sore muscles and aching joints the next day.
In more serious cases, some people could not even lift their arms properly.
Joo Joowon’s Physique was only four points, placing him within the sub healthy range.
Even after wearing equipment, it only rose to five points, barely reaching the standard level of an average person.
Therefore, experiencing muscle soreness after intense activity was not strange at all.
While rubbing his shoulders and neck, Joo Joowon subconsciously reached out and picked up Byeol who was sleeping on the other pillow before burying his face into the cat’s fur for a deep sniff.
"Meowww!"
Byeol immediately let out an unhappy cry after having its sleep disturbed.
Joo Joowon looked surprised.
"Huh? Byeol, how did your cute little clip voice turn into a smoker’s voice?"
Byeol: "..."
A cat’s voice could not suddenly change for no reason.
Yesterday, even when it got frightened by the zombies badly enough for its voice to crack, it had not sounded like this.
Only now did Joo Joowon notice that his bedroom looked as though it had been ransacked by thieves.
The water cup had long since shattered into fragments and not a single book remained on the desk or bookshelf.
Even the wardrobe doors that had originally been closed were now wide open.
Although the clothes had not fallen onto the floor, they were still left in complete disarray.
Joo Joowon slowly lifted Byeol up in front of his face.
Byeol instinctively flattened its ears while its tail puffed up slightly.
It looked both cowardly and unconvinced as it stared at Joo Joowon.
Joo Joowon immediately began rubbing the cat’s head roughly.
This kind of scene was far too familiar to him.
Cats were creatures that held grudges very easily.
If a person unknowingly offended a cat, they might end up facing all kinds of revenge depending on the cat’s personality.
Some cats ignored their owners completely, some peed on beds, and some scratched people.
Joo Joowon had raised cats for several years already, so naturally he had experienced things like this before.
At one point, he had even seriously considered giving the cat away to another owner.
Back when he first brought Byeol home, he already understood that cats were animals.
They could not understand human language, so it was normal for them to do annoying things sometimes.
There was no need to get angry over every little thing.
But when Byeol peed all over his bed, Joo Joowon truly felt mentally destroyed.
He knew perfectly well that it was revenge.
When he first brought Byeol home, the cat had practically been his dream cat.
Wherever the owner went inside the house, the cat followed behind.
It allowed petting, hugging, and kissing.
Whenever he left home, the cat would send him off at the door, and whenever he returned, the cat would come greet him.
Its meows sounded soft and adorable, and its appearance was incredibly cute.
However, everything changed after Joo Joowon brought it to the pet hospital.
The cat refused to pee anywhere else.
It specifically targeted the bed.
At first, Joo Joowon tolerated it. But later, he suddenly thought to himself, "We are both first time owners and first time pets. Why should I spoil you?"
So afterward, every time Byeol peed on the bed, Joo Joowon would immediately bring over a basin of water and soak the cat bed in return.
If the cat scratched him, he would tear apart the scratching board.
If the cat sneak attacked him during meals, he would steal the cat food away.
After several rounds of mutual insanity, Byeol finally became much more obedient.
Now, whenever it got angry, it would only run over to scratch the scratching board while glaring at Joo Joowon and silently cursing him.
It was genuinely unconvinced.
But it also genuinely could not win against him.
Of course, compared to other evil cats, Byeol actually had very good cat morals.
Even in the beginning, before Joo Joowon trained it properly, it had never truly bitten him.
It only messed with his belongings and never directly attacked him personally.
As for getting scratched, that was simply unavoidable.
A cat’s sharp claws were always there.
Even kneading could accidentally scratch someone, not to mention times when a cat became too excited while playing and forgot to retract its claws.
