Chapter 4: Ravenhurst Academy II

"Finally, a break," Remi groaned, collapsing heavily onto a long stone bench in the cafeteria.

The Umbrax dining hall was a grim, dimly lit room constructed from dark, oppressive stone.

At the far end, several cooks clad in black robes stood over massive, steaming iron cauldrons, ladling out roasted meats, thick stews, and heavy dark bread.

While Remi continuously complained about the grueling physical curriculum, Asher sat completely frozen, his mind racing.

’Why did Rowan wave at me like that? Does he want the entire school to discover who I am on day one?’

"Ginger head!" Remi yelled, snapping her fingers in front of his face.

"Uh! What?" Asher blinked, jolting out of his thoughts.

"Did you fall in love with your new nickname so much that you forgot your actual name?" she teased.

"No, I was just... never mind," Asher mumbled, looking away.

He realized with a flush of embarrassment that he couldn’t maintain eye contact with Remi for more than a few seconds without his voice stuttering.

Before Remi could tease him further, two other students walked over to their table. "Hey guys, mind if we join? I’m Marnie, and this is June."

June was exceptionally tall, projecting a remarkably calm and aesthetic aura.

Marnie was shorter, possessing a distinct hourglass figure and vibrant hair dyed in alternating streaks of yellow and black.

Overwhelmed by the sudden social interaction, Asher immediately laid his forehead on the cool surface of the table, staring miserably at his shoes.

’What am I supposed to do here?’ "Umm, is your friend okay?" Marnie asked, glancing at Remi.

Before Remi could answer, three more female students walked over, seemingly drawn directly to their specific table.

Asher felt a subtle, electrical pulse vibrate beneath his skin.

His latent Charm Sense was actively triggering, subliminally drawing people toward him.

Kaito had explained this hidden attribute to him during their private discussion; it wasn’t a physical attack or defensive power, but rather a passive aura that granted immense social advantages, leadership potential, and natural protection from allies.

Looking up at the growing crowd of classmates around him, a sudden pang of doubt hit Asher’s chest.

’Is Remi actually my friend... or is she just under the influence of this stupid charm spell?’

When the break ended, the orientation tour resumed.

The instructor guided the Umbrax students through the reinforced underground safety bunkers—which were heavily enchanted to withstand catastrophic high-tier attacks—before showing them the grand clock tower and primary classrooms.

"And finally, your residential quarters," the instructor announced, stopping in front of a massive stone wall.

"Please extend your dominant hand."

As the students pressed their palms against the stone, a brief flash of heat surged through their skin before fading back to normal.

"The security wards have successfully logged your unique palm prints," the teacher explained.

"Only you can unlock your designated dorm rooms. You are dismissed for the evening."

Asher tracked down his room number - 3 and pressed his palm against the dark wooden door.

The heavy lock clicked open instantly.

Stepping inside, he gasped in surprise.

The academy had already transported his personal belongings, organising them perfectly throughout the incredibly spacious room.

His old sketches were neatly framed on the walls, his research books lined a beautiful silver shelf in the corner, and a massive bed occupied the center of the room.

He collapsed onto the plush mattress, burying his face in the soft duvet.

"This is actually incredible," he whispered.

According to the roster, Remi’s room was directly next to his.

Staring at the shared wall, Asher couldn’t help but sigh.

’If this really is just the work of the Charm Sense, I’m a total fraud’.

He leaned his head against the wall, listening intently for any sound from her room before catching himself.

"Wow... great job, Asher. Now you’re acting like a literal pervert," he laughed quietly to himself, rolling over.

Hours later, a violent tremor violently shook the entire residential wing, throwing Asher completely out of his bed.

The deafening roar of the academy’s emergency sirens echoed through the corridors, accompanied by frantic magical broadcasts: "All students evacuate to the Grand Assembly Hall immediately!"

Asher sprinted out into the chaotic hallway, instantly finding Remi. Together, they ran alongside the screaming crowd toward the main hall.

Up on the stage, a breathless guard ran up to Headmaster Maverick. "Sir! Our seismic arrays have detected a wild Argentrix entering the lower foundation!"

Maverick’s face hardened instantly. An Argentrix was a colossal, highly destructive underground python.

The academy hadn’t suffered an infiltration from one in over two years. These specific entities were apex predators, entirely driven by an insatiable hunger for raw spiritual power.

"Well, so much for the reinforced underground safety bunkers," Rowan muttered from the front lines, his hand resting instinctively on the hilt of his training blade.

Maverick stepped up to the podium, his voice infused with booming mana that instantly silenced the panicked arena.

"Maintain absolute order! No student is permitted to leave this reinforced hall under any circumstances! To step outside is a literal death wish!"

With a flash of light, Maverick vanished to confront the beast, leaving the elite guard to secure the perimeter.

Miles below the arena, the python’s statistics rapidly fluctuated as it absorbed the surrounding ambient mana:

[Entity: Argentrix (Legendary Python)]

[Current Level: Legendary]

[Coil Crush: Max% Efficiency Increase]

[Seismic Sense Overload: Max% Increase]

The massive silver serpent burst through the stone floor of the Umbrax battlefield, letting out a deafening, high-pitched screech that shattered the surrounding glass fixtures.

It hadn’t breached the academy at random; it had tracked an undiluted, extraordinarily pure source of ancient power directly to this specific location.

’Every single freshman this year is completely average’ Maverick thought, hovering above the battlefield as his cloak billowed with mana.

’Whose energy could possibly be powerful enough to summon a Legendary apex predator from the deep trenches?’

"Karmus Defensive!" Maverick chanted, throwing his arms downward.

A colossal, translucent magical barrier materialized around the epicenter of the school, completely locking down the perimeter.

The python bared its massive fangs, its eyes locking onto the magical signature. It unleashed its signature attack—[Earth Spike]—diverting the electrical currents of the entire campus into a massive, jagged pillar of rock aimed directly at the headmaster.

"Dualityx, manifest!" Maverick roared. His massive, two-headed python materialized instantly, throwing its colossal body forward to intercept the strike.

BOOM! Inside the safety of the assembly hall, the students watched the unfolding carnage through the aetherscope—a massive magical screen displaying the battlefield in real-time.

"That monster is completely insane!" a student yelled in terror.

"Dualityx can’t hold it back!"

Determined to intervene, Rowan pushed past Fang, moving rapidly toward the exit doors.

"Hey! Where the hell do you think you’re going?!"

Fang shouted, his voice drawing the attention of the surrounding instructors.

BOOM! On the screen, the Earth Spike violently shattered Dualityx’s defensive scales, slamming the headmaster’s summon into the reinforced stone walls.

The Argentrix immediately seized the opening, unleashing a devastating Sonic Shriek.

The localized soundwave struck Maverick directly, instantly rupturing his sense of balance and hearing.

Paralyzed by the disorientation, the headmaster fell from the sky, crashing heavily onto the dirt.

The serpent reared back, casting its ultimate spell: Gravitola.

A crushing, invisible gravity field descended upon Maverick, multiplying his body weight exponentially until the stone beneath him began to crack.

"The headmaster is going down!"

"If Maverick can’t stop it, we’re all dead!"

As the students fell into a collective panic, the heavy doors of the assembly hall flew open.

Rowan sprinted out into the center of the arena, his Auric mana flaring wildly as he bypassed the outer edges of the gravity field.

"Look! It’s the guy from the ceremony!"

"The one with the nine-tailed wolf!"

Watching the projection, Asher’s face drained of all color, his heart dropping into his stomach.

’What are you doing, Rowan?! Get out of there!’

His knuckles turned completely white as he gripped his uniform trousers, his entire frame trembling with a mixture of terror and bitter jealousy.

"I call upon the eternal pact! Erebus!" Rowan roared, his voice echoing across the battlefield as the legendary silver beast materialized, charging directly toward the serpent’s coiled form.
