Chapter 91: SWAPPED PHONES
Andrew ran out of the restaurant, hoping to find Jasmine but she was no longer at the perimeter. "Shit!" He cursed.
Jasmine finally arrived at the mansion after making a stop at the mall and a walk at the park. As always, her father was seated on the sofa, tapping his walking stick on the floor, impatiently.
"Dad, what’s wrong?" She asked him.
Mr Davis glared at his daughter for cutting the call on him earlier while he was still talking.
"Dad...." Jasmine softly muttered. Her fear of being scolded again gripped her.
"Where have you been?" He questioned her with a demanding tone. "And how dare you cut the call while I was talking?"
Frowning, jasmine didn’t understand the second question because she had not received any call from him.
"I didn’t cut your call", she managed to say but mr Davis didn’t seem to believe her.
"Are you saying that am lying?" He questioned her again and jasmine vigorously shook her neck.
"I didn’t see your call. In fact, I’ve not received any call yet", she tried to explain. She brought out her phone from her bag to show him proof and that’s when it dawned on her. This wasn’t her phone.
She recalled that she had placed her phone on the floor and so did the stranger which only means that he was with her phone and she was with his. Their phones were of the same brand and had the same color of pouches which made it quite hard to differentiate.
"What is it?" Mr Davis demanded when he saw her lost in her thoughts.
"This isn’t my phone", she mumbled. Without any further explanation, she left the mansion and entered her car to drive back to the restaurant. Luckily for her, Andrew was still at the restaurant.
Jasmine walked up to him and demanded, "Hey! Give me my phone".
"Hi Jasmine! Would you care to have a sit with me?" He asked as if he didn’t hear her request.
"No, now give me my phone", she urged again but Andrew only stared at her. After releasing a big puff of air, jasmine pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Good girl", Andrew commented. "Now, what would you like to have?"
’Is he deaf?’ She thought to herself. "If you don’t hand me my phone right this minute, am going to throw yours away", she threatened but the man wasn’t scared at all. He took a sip from his juice first before he remarked,
"You can go ahead. Besides, that was just my substitute phone", he brought out two phones and pointed at one. "This is my main phone. I only use that one to play games and stuff".
Jasmine was now annoyed. "Just hand me my phone already", she demanded again.
"Let’s have a meal first before I give it to you", With that, he stood up and went to the counter to place an order and returned with it. "I saw you eating this earlier, must be your favorite", he guessed.
Jasmine took the cheese burger and start taking bites even though she had just eaten. When she managed to finish the burger, she was about to open her mouth to repeat her demand but Andrew stole her words.
"Give you your phone? Do you know why I haven’t given you your phone yet?" He asked and jasmine only frowned at him. "It’s because you lack manners. You don’t know how to say "please" or "thank you", you are reminded to say it, am I wrong?" He asked her. "You should be lucky that I was the one who picked up your phone else you would have been at the phone store, buying another one".
Jasmine’s face was red with embarrassment. She had never been insulted in this manner before. She was about to speak again but Andrew spoke first.
"With the way you demanded your phone from me when you arrived, people would have thought that I stole it".
Jasmine immediately swallowed the rains of insult she was about to pour on him. Sighing, she decided to apologize instead.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way. I almost got into trouble because of a misunderstanding with my..."
"...dad", Andrew completed it for her. "He called earlier and I can tell from his tone that he was very mad at you".
Jasmine could only release a sigh. Andrew handed over her phone but not without adding his digits first.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Jasmine questioned him.
"From the look on your face, it seems that you want someone whom you can talk to and who can listen to your complains and thoughts. I’m the right person, trust me. If you ever feel upset or just not in the mood, then text me. I will come running to you", he winked at her before he stood up and leaf.
Jasmine gazed at his number which he saved with "Stranger". She softly chuckled before she remembered something. She quickly brought out his phone that he had forgotten to take along with him.
All of a sudden, she received a text from "stranger", saying.
’Keep the phone. The games might help in diverting your thoughts’.
She didn’t quite understand his text but she didn’t want to think too much about it.
After arriving at the mansion again, she didn’t see her father anymore. ’He must have gone to do some convincing as usual’, she thought to herself.
Jasmine entered her room to sleep even though it was still daytime but was unable to as it seems her new friend didn’t want her to rest yet.
’Did your father scold you again?’ -Andrew
’No, I didn’t find him in the house when I returned’- Jasmine
They continued to text each other until Jasmine’s eye lashes felt heavy and she slept with a smile on her lips. So many first things have happened to her today. The first time her heart skipped a beat for another man, the first time she blushed because of another man other than Ethan.
