Chapter 350: HEADING BACK
Emma ran as fast as she could while tears flowed down from her eyes and her heart tried to escape from her chest due to how fast it was beating.
In the middle of her running, she didn’t notice Oliver falling flat on his face. Levi left his mother’s side to go attend to his brother before he called her.
"Mum, Oliver has fallen," he told her and immediately, she halted her steps.
Emma turned around and found Oliver on the ground with a speck of dust on his clothes and face. She ran back towards him and pulled him towards her chest as she hugged him tightly.
"I’m sorry," she apologized, although she wasn’t the one that pushed him. She apologized because she suddenly felt like it and that it was needed at that moment.
Parting from him, she used her hand to get the dust away from his black shirt and wipe his face clean as well.
"Mum, when are we going back to Daddy?" Levi, the curious one asked his mother. His face was also etched with sadness just like his mother. He had witnessed his father being shot and could only hope that he was still alive.
"Your daddy..." Emma drawled, not sure of how to reply to his question. How could she, especially since she didn’t know how he was doing over there? Sniffing back the snots that were about to fall from the nose, she cupped Levi’s face and smiled at him. "Your daddy is going to be fine, hmm? He’s going to be alright."
Both the kids nodded, completely believing their mother.
"Are we going to leave him there? What if those people hurt him? We have to get Daddy back," Oliver spoke this time and Emma nodded.
She had already decided that she wasn’t going to leave Robert alone. She wasn’t going to leave the city without him by her side. She looked around the area they were in. It was already 8 am, and people had started going to their respective workplaces while students got ready to go to school. The men weren’t following her and she contemplated going back to Beatrice’s house. The distance was long and dangerous especially since she wasn’t alone.
Also, she wasn’t sure if Francis’ men would be waiting for her in case she returned for her husband. Plus, if she goes back to Beatrice’s house, how is she going to find Robert and rescue him? As these thoughts passed through her mind one after the other, the more confused she was.
"Let’s go mummy," Oliver tapped her on her shoulder, bringing her back from her thoughts.
She stood up from the ground, and stared down at them, the papers in her hands before looking at the street again. She could see in their eyes that they were already tired since they had to wake up very early that morning and they hadn’t eaten anything since they woke up.
Bringing the paper that Robert gave to her earlier to her face, she finally read through the words printed on it.
The phone number of the person whom Robert had instructed her to call was written boldly for her to see and so was the name; John Donovan.
Without hesitating, Emma made the phone call, and the call connected after a few rings. She explained the new situation she was currently in. She also took a picture of the paper and sent it to the person. Afterward, the call was hung up and Emma grabbed the hands of both Levi and Oliver and said, "We are not leaving without your father," she said firmly. Immediately those words left her lips, the twins smiled and wiped their tears.
They started their journey to go back to Beatrice’s house. Their path was clearer now since the sun had risen.
Emma darted her eyes at every corner of a street they turned to, watching the people who passed just in case she would come across the people who took her husband away.
After walking for several minutes later, both she and the kids finally arrived at the secluded area where Beatrice lived. This was the place that she should be more careful of since it was the same area where Robert was shot. "They could still be hanging around somewhere," she told herself.
Every time she passed people who were also walking on the street would all give her an unfamiliar look since they didn’t know who she was. Since the day both she and Robert came to stay with Beatrice in her house, she’d never stepped foot out of the house except that day. But with the luggage in her hands, they all thought that she was probably just moving in.
When Emma arrived in the street where Beatrice’s house was, she released a huge sigh of relief.
Unbeknownst to her, the people whom she thought were looking at her because she hadn’t been seen in the neighborhood were the people she should be running away from. Most of them passed her with a woman which made her not think too much about it since she thought they were couples.
Just two houses away from Beatrice’s house, Emma suddenly felt dizzy and nauseous.
"Mum, what’s wrong?" Levi asked him when he saw the condition his mother was in.
Emma held her chest, as the urge to throw up suddenly came.
’I’ve missed my period already. I hope I’m not pregnant,’ she thought to herself as she tried to calm down her breathing.
"I’m fine." She smiled at Levi. She noticed some of the couples she had passed earlier suddenly in the same street.
Frowning, she turned right and continued to walk straight while trying as much as possible to not throw up but her dizziness became too much for her to handle and she ended up collapsing on the ground.
"Mummy!!" Both Oliver and Levi called for their mother, trying to wake her up but she wasn’t moving an inch. They tried to push her some more to wake her up but it resulted to the same thing.
