Chapter 345: UNDER THE CAR

Quickly, he hid beside one of the houses so that he wouldn’t be caught. From there, he saw Francis sitted on the front seat of the truck as he pointed at places for the driver to drive to.

"Shit!" Robert cursed when he saw that the truck had come to a stop as the men stepped down from it and started splitting to search faster. "Where am I going to go from here?" He mumbled to himself, eyes still focused on them. Some of the men stood in front of the car and stared at places while some had gone to God knows where.

Thankfully for Robert, that route wasn’t the only one he could use to get back to Beatrice’s house. Glancing at them one last time, he turned around and walked the other way while holding his hoodie tight over his head. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Robert got to the other route, hid, and waited if he would hear any movements that signified that those men were also around that part. After waiting for a while but still didn’t hear any footsteps or men speaking, he decided to move from there and get to the house as soon as possible.

The route was longer than the first one which meant that he would get home really late.

Sighing, he stood up while his heart beat rapidly inside his chest as he tried to steady his breathing.

After taking a few steps and still not hearing anyone talking, he decided to run and make it quick before he was caught.

Unfortunately, after making a few steps, he sighted one of the men peeing into the bushes, not far from him was another one whose eyes were elsewhere. He was done for, he thought to himself.

He froze, his hands hung up in the air as if surrendering. He tried to control his breathing as much as possible but luck wasn’t on his side that day.

"He’s over here!" Another one who stood behind Robert without him realizing it shouted loudly. The one peeing and the one looking away made eye contact with him, and immediately, they started chasing after him as soon as he bolted from there.

Robert ran as if his life depended on it which it did but he made sure to avoid going back to the road that led to Beatrice’s house. He couldn’t afford to put his family in danger. He changed his direction and started running about, trying as hard as possible to lose them.

Bullets were being shot at him with the use of silencers to not call attention to themselves in the neighborhood. Robert didn’t know when a bullet was being shot so he ran with another strategy—running in zig-zag to confuse whoever was shooting the gun at him.

"What are you doing? Shoot him already," Francis urged the man who had been firing bullets at Robert.

"Boss, I can’t target him properly," the latter complained. Francis glanced at Robert who was close to losing them and hissed in anger.

"Give me that." Francis snatched the gun from the man and pointed it at Robert. He followed Robert with his eyes and monitored how the latter was running. When he was certain that he would have a good shot if he fired the gun, he smirked to himself and pulled the trigger.

I’m lightning speed, the bullet followed Robert until it hit him on the leg and he ended up stumbling on the ground, falling flat on his face as he yelped in pain.

But without letting a second go to waste as the criminals got closer to him, he abruptly stood up from the ground and continued to run as his leg bled.

Despite his bleeding leg, he tried as much as possible to not slow down and let them get closer to him so he continued to run as he struggled to not fall on the ground again despite the throbbing pain.

He took many lefts and rights to confuse them since he couldn’t find any single soul on the street to help him out.

Finding a car that seemed old, parked beside the other side, Robert ran towards it and slid under it, hiding his entire physique under it to stay hidden.

He tried as much as possible to not make any pain but his shot leg wasn’t helping matters at that moment. He looked at the ground, and when he didn’t see any of his blood, leaving a trace, he sighed in relief.

It wasn’t long until he heard the rushing footsteps of those people after him. As they rushed past him, he sighed again in relief.

"Where did he go?" He heard the impatient voice of his boss question no one in particular. "WHERE DID HE GO?!" He yelled out louder when no one replied to his question.

"I saw him running just a while ago before he suddenly disappeared," said one of the men. "He must have hidden somewhere.

As soon as those words left his mouth, Robert felt his heartbeat quicken again. He could only hope that they didn’t find out that he was hiding under the overused car. He would be dead if they did.

"You mean to tell me that none of you could outrun him even after he was shot?" Francis questioned and yelled at them in frustration and anger. "All of you are useless," he spat out loud.

He spoke as if he could outrun any of his men and talk more of Robert who was born with long legs and good stamina.

"Boss, he could still be around this place. He was shot," said another and he attempted to start looking about for Robert.

"Shut up!" Francis yelled at the one talking as saliva from his mouth escaped and splattered on the latter. "You all are a bunch of fools. You can’t do anything right!" He criticized nonstop until he got tired. Unbeknownst to them, Robert was still under the car, listening as they vented out their frustrations.
