Chapter 183: TENSED UP
Erika tried to sit up properly on the bed and her eyes darted around the room until the realization hit her. She had been resting for too long, acting like a weakling and this wasn’t her.
The images of Ethan’s body that was covered by the white cloth repeated itself in her memory and whenever that happened, she would grow weak.
"Stop it, Erika! Stop crying like this," she told herself. "This is not the time for you to be crying like a weakling!" she repeated in her mind. She glanced at the top right of the wall and saw the red dot on the camera that was focused on her. It had been like that since the time she arrived, not moving. Since the room wasn’t too small nor too big, its position was a perfect angle for all of her actions to be captured.
Erika wiped tears from her eyes as she glared at the camera.
She wasn’t going to give up now. She had gotten rid of these people before and she could do it again, this time permanently. She didn’t care if she had to shoot them with a gun or stab them with a knife. By all means, she must get out of here but not before avenging Ethan’s death.
Stepping down from the bed, she headed for the bathroom to release herself and get ready for dinner. She had been skipping meals because she didn’t want to let those despicable people see her weak self. That wasn’t needed since she was going to face them head-on.
She watched the time tic on the plastic clock and wondered why the clock was made of plastic. Earlier, it had been a normal clock and had not been made with plastic. But two days ago, it had been changed to a plastic one, probably because Adrian thought she was a violent person and could harm a person.
Yes, she could harm people, but she only caused harm to those who deserved it. When the time ticked 7 pm, she immediately heard footsteps coming closer to the door, it was probably the maid, she thought to herself.
As expected, the maid opened the door and without waiting for her to speak, Erika stepped out of the room, leaving the maid in shock.
She had been indoors for too long. If she doesn’t help herself escape from this place, Adrian might believe that he’d already won even though he does feel like he’d already won.
After walking out of the hallway, she met with the dining table and everyone was already seated. Once Felicia’s eyes fell on Erika’s face, the urge to slap it hit her but unfortunately for her, she couldn’t do it in Adrian’s presence.
"Erika!" Adrian cheered happily. "It’s a good thing you agreed to come out today to have dinner with us," he added.
Erika snorted internally before she pulled out a seat for her and replied, "I thought I wouldn’t be doing anyone any good if I starved to death."
"Of course, eat to your heart’s content," Adrian urged her. Though the food disgusted her, she needed to eat to have the strength to escape.
Both Mary, Juliet, and Felicia glared at Erika, with the hope that she could just disappear from earth but luck wasn’t on their side since she was still in front of them.
"Adrian, after dinner today, can you finally take me on the tour that you promised me the first day that I got here?" she requested with a sweet voice.
The first day that she realized that she’d been kidnapped, she had planned to make Adrian believe that she was still in love with him so that he could loosen security around her.
Adrian’s hands stiffened. He stared at her and asked, "Are you serious? Are you ready to take the tour? Why do you want to go first? If you want we can leave now."
For the first time, Felicia felt ashamed for having such a shameless man as a husband. He had been beaten up by this same woman whom he was willing to take on a tour.
Clenching her fist tightly, she tried to not explode out of anger.
"Of course, if you want, we can go watch a movie together," Erika suggested.
This time, Adrian couldn’t contain his happiness. As soon as he wanted to express it, Felicia interrupted him,
"Aren’t you being shameless for interacting with another woman’s husband like that?" she questioned Erika.
"You can’t blame me, I only learned from the best," Erika shrugged.
"What did you say?" Felicia demanded as she squinted her eyes at Erika.
Adrian warned Felicia with her eyes and the latter sat down against her will. She wanted to tear up Erika’s face because hers wasn’t so good-looking as of the moment but none of that could be done when Adrian was always there to protect her. She needed to find a day and destroy Erika for good, a day that Adrian wouldn’t be present in the house, she thought to herself.
"Don’t mind Felicia. So tell me, where do you want to visit first?" he asked her.
"Do you have a garden? I suddenly remembered Grandma Elizabeth’s garden back at the Hart mansion," Erika replied and casually took bites from the food but someone’s body from around the table had tensed up.
Adrian glared at Mary before he replied to Erika, "I do, do you want to see it now?" he asked her and she nodded. "Then let’s go," he said and stood up while Erika followed suit.
Adrian stretched out his hands towards her for her to hold but she pretended she hadn’t seen it by reaching down to fix her shoes.
Feeling slightly embarrassed, Adrian retracted his hands to put them back into his pocket and waited for her to finish fixing her shoes.
Together, the both of them walked through the huge passages of the house and each door needed a card for it to be opened.
The bodyguards that she used to see before were no more which made Erika wonder where they were. Were they shadow guards? she asked herself. But her question was answered when they finally arrived outside.
