Chapter 380: Chapter 374: Hmph! Don’t You Dare Beg Me for Mercy!
Chloe Simpson had already been exhausted to the point of fainting, but the moment Lydia Brooks’ blade went down, she was jolted awake by the pain.
But she didn’t have a shred of strength left.
On top of that, the searing pain coming from her face made her whole body twitch nonstop as she lay on the floor, with no room to resist at all.
"Oh, you’re awake! Chloe, even better that you’re awake. Only when you’re awake can you really feel this pain. Only then will you know what kind of ending you get for fighting me over a man!"
Seeing Chloe wake up, Lydia’s smile grew even more vicious.
"You... wouldn’t dare!"
Right now, Chloe hurt so badly she could barely breathe; she couldn’t even shout Lydia’s name.
She used every last ounce of strength in her body and only managed to force out two words.
That only made Lydia laugh even more manically. "Hahaha, of course I dare. Why wouldn’t I? Let me tell you the truth—do you know why I could get the position of deputy head nurse?"
"It’s all because I’ve got a good uncle. My uncle is a major shareholder in this hospital. Forget slashing your face—even if something happens to you here today, no one can do a damn thing to me! Go to hell!"
Lydia was so smug her whole face twisted out of shape.
She gripped the scissors in both hands and jabbed them toward Chloe’s face again!
Chloe’s vision was filled with red, her eyes bloodshot; the pain was so strong it almost snuffed out her life.
She still had no way to fight back, and could only watch helplessly as the scissors in Lydia’s hand pressed closer and closer to her.
In the end, she shut her eyes in despair.
At this point, there probably wouldn’t be anyone left who’d come to save her.
Lucas Hughes was never going to save her.
And the only one who was still willing to help her now, Harry King, wasn’t at the hospital; distant water couldn’t put out a nearby fire.
She could only let this woman, Lydia, ruin her face.
Heh. Chloe had imagined all kinds of terrifying scenarios, but even in her nightmares she never thought she’d fall into Lydia’s hands.
She gave a bitter laugh and slowly closed her eyes.
Suddenly, right then, there was a loud "bang" and the sound of something heavy hitting the floor.
Right after that came Lydia’s shrill scream.
Someone saved her?
Chloe’s eyes flew open. When she saw who was standing in front of her, she couldn’t believe her eyes no matter what.
It was him!
Alexander Johnson!
How could it possibly be Alexander?
The two of them clearly no longer had any connection, any entanglement at all.
Besides, Alexander had just kicked her out of the hospital before.
She figured she was just in too much pain and was hallucinating.
With that thought, Chloe finally passed out.
When she woke up again, she was already in a ward.
There was no one around, and certainly no Alexander.
Thinking of what she’d seen right before she fainted, Chloe gave a bitter smile.
So she really had been hallucinating.
But why would she think of Alexander at the most critical moment?
Had she still not gotten over him?
Chloe, look at the time now.
Your face has already been ruined, Mom died so miserably, and you still have the nerve to think about a man!
How can you be this cheap!
She really wanted to slap herself hard, twice.
But the moment she moved, she tugged at the wounds on her face, and the pain shot through her instantly.
"Hiss!"
Chloe sucked in a sharp breath, then stood up and walked to the mirror to take a look.
The area wrapped in gauze wasn’t big; the injury shouldn’t be too serious.
But with the gauze covering her face, she couldn’t see the wound.
She remembered how vicious Lydia had looked before she passed out.
She was just about to take the gauze off to see how bad it really was.
But just as she lifted her hand, Lydia’s hysterical screaming burst out from outside the ward.
"Chloe! Get out here! Look what you did to my face!"
"Do you know who my uncle is? You dare hurt me like this? You must be sick of living!"
"What, you don’t have the guts to own up now? Hiding in the ward like a turtle? You were pretty damn capable when you were hurting me!"
"Get out here, you cheap whore! I curse your whole family to die badly! Even if I become a ghost, I won’t let you go!"
Chloe knew Lydia’s uncle was a major shareholder of the hospital and originally didn’t want to stir up more trouble, but she was just too much, too arrogant.
In the end, Chloe couldn’t hold back and opened the ward door.
"Cursing my whole family, huh? Sorry to disappoint you, but your curse has already failed. My mom’s dead, and there’s only me left... alive."
Chloe snapped back the moment she opened the door.
But before she could finish that last word, everything she wanted to say was drowned in her own shock.
She really hadn’t expected Lydia’s face to be slashed up like this.
Her entire face was covered in bloody gashes, barely a single intact spot left.
Chloe didn’t even have the mind to curse her anymore.
Her head was full of the events right before she’d blacked out.
No matter how she tried, she couldn’t remember.
Who on earth had done this to Lydia?
Could it have been Alexander Johnson?
So the Alexander she’d seen before fainting hadn’t been a hallucination.
He was real!
In the end, Chloe could only think of that one possibility, but she denied it in the very next second.
"Chloe, are you feeling smug, thrilled, seeing the scars on my face? Go to hell!"
Seeing Chloe staring at her without saying a word, Lydia lost it and charged at her like a madwoman.
Chloe came back to her senses, stepped aside, and Lydia flew straight forward, falling face-first onto the ground like a dog eating shit.
"Chloe! Simpson!"
Lydia was now completely consumed by rage.
She scrambled up and tried to attack again, but as soon as she raised her hand, someone slapped her hard, sending her flying back to the floor.
The newcomer was none other than Selene Wilson.
Chloe was stunned all over again.
Wasn’t Selene Alexander Johnson’s fiancée, the Johnson Family’s future daughter-in-law already chosen?
How could this woman be helping her?
"You! Where the hell did you crawl out from, you cheap bitch? How dare you lay hands on me!"
Lydia clutched her burning cheek, furious to the point of bursting, and tried to swing back.
Selene just smiled and kicked Lydia to the floor.
She grabbed Lydia’s hand, pinned her down, and slapped her across the face over and over again, dozens of times.
"Hmph, what the hell do you think you are? Acting wild in front of me? Even if your daddy showed up, he wouldn’t dare talk to me like that!"
Only when her own hand was sore did Selene finally stop!
Just then, Lucas Hughes arrived after hearing the commotion.
"Lucas! Wuu wuu wuu! You have to stand up for me. They ganged up to bully me. Look what they did to my face! I want them to pay the exact same price!"
"Go, ruin both of their faces for me! I want them to have more scars than I do. I want them to be uglier than me. I want them to never be able to show their faces in public ever again!"
Seeing Lucas, Lydia immediately jumped up and ran to him, crying as she barked orders.
"What... exactly happened here?"
Lucas glanced at Selene, then at Chloe, making no move at all, instead questioning Lydia.
After all, Selene and Chloe had always been mortal enemies. Why were they suddenly standing on the same side now?
Seeing Lucas like this, Lydia exploded.
Like a shrew, she lunged at Lucas, punching and kicking.
"Look at what I look like now, and you’re still dawdling here? Hurry up and do something! Ah!"
Selene sneered, and with just one sharp look, Lucas guiltily lowered his head.
Sure, Lydia’s family had money and counted as wealthy, but compared to the Wilson Family, they were worlds apart.
The Wilson Family and the Johnson Family were top-tier giants.
"You! Fine, listen to me, I don’t care who you are, just you wait—you’re all dead! Lucas Hughes, you’re really something. Seeing me like this and you still won’t help me!"
"I’m calling my uncle right now. I’ll have him fire every last one of you! Just you wait, and don’t come kneeling to beg me later!"
