Chapter 288: Chapter 287: Become the King of the Spirit Race

As Yi Tianyun was thinking about how to get the Soul-Nourishing Grass, Ye Wan’Er, beside him, was still overcome with guilt. She’d brought him in as a guest, yet she couldn’t repay him properly. How could she not feel bad?

"Yi, I’m sorry, I haven’t been a good host..." Ye Wan’Er said, her face full of dejection. She took this sort of thing very seriously; she was absolutely the type who must repay any kindness shown to her.

In truth, it wasn’t just her. Many Cultivators were the type who insisted on repaying their debts of gratitude. If they couldn’t, they would be unable to clear their minds, which would hinder their cultivation. As for those who were habitually ungrateful, that was another story, but at least Ye Wan’Er was not that kind of person.

"Still thinking about that? I’m just happy you could bring me in to have a look around. No one else can even get in," Yi Tianyun said with a smile. ’This girl is really too kind-hearted,’ he thought.

While it was a shame he couldn’t study it properly, at least he now knew that Soul-Nourishing Grass had a significant effect on him. He wondered if other Spirit Medicines would produce different effects. If he relied solely on things like Experience Cards, he truly couldn’t afford the cost unless he had an enormous amount of Madness Value.

Spirit Medicines were on the rarer side, but as long as he was strong enough, obtaining them wouldn’t be too difficult. Alternatively, he could have the people of the Fate Sect search for them, which would undoubtedly save time and effort.

"Is that so..." Ye Wan’Er shook her head and sighed. "If you could go to the Spirit Tower, it would be able to satisfy your needs, no matter how incredibly fast your absorption rate is, Yi."

"I already told you, there’s no need to worry about it," Yi Tianyun said, feeling rather exasperated.

"Oh, my sister’s back!"

Just then, a crowd gathered up ahead, drawing her attention. Yi Tianyun glanced over and saw a group of people closing in, respectfully greeting the person at the front. He could faintly make out the words, "Welcome, Saintess."

Clearly, Ye Qingxuan had returned, and a look of delight appeared on Ye Wan’Er’s face.

Sure enough, a moment later, the crowd ahead parted slightly, and a familiar face appeared before Yi Tianyun’s eyes—Ye Qingxuan!

It was the same Ye Qingxuan as before, with no major changes, except that her face was a bit pale. Her complexion seemed much worse than last time. Her condition had been bad enough back then, but now she looked even more haggard. Her cultivation, however, was quite a bit stronger.

Her terrible complexion was likely caused by something she had just gone through, which had drained her immensely.

"Sister!" Ye Wan’Er waved excitedly and broke into a run, quickly reaching Ye Qingxuan’s side. "Sister, what brings you back this time?"

Ye Qingxuan reached out and pinched her cheek, anger flaring in her beautiful eyes as she scolded, "I heard that traitor Li Hao found you outside. If someone hadn’t saved you, you would have been captured. I’ve told you before, you need to improve your cultivation before you can go out by yourself. What would we have done if you’d been taken?"

"Ow, ow, ow... Sister, I wanted to help our people! We were so short on Jade Spirit Stones... so I went out. I’m fine now, aren’t I?" Ye Wan’Er flailed her hand, wanting to bat away Ye Qingxuan’s fingers, but she didn’t dare.

"And ’I’m fine’ is supposed to make it okay?" Ye Qingxuan snorted coldly and finally let go. She looked up at Yi Tianyun, her gaze softening. "You must be the one who saved Wan’Er. I am so grateful to you. If it weren’t for you, Wan’Er would have been taken by the Netherworld Empire."

She looked Yi Tianyun up and down as she spoke but didn’t notice anything familiar. Yi Tianyun’s physique had changed considerably, so it was impossible for her to recognize him by his build.

"It was a small matter, not worth mentioning." The familiar voice reached his ears, reminding him of the past—how Ye Qingxuan had gifted him her most precious talent, her memories included. She had saved him just like that, despite not knowing him well at all.

The two sisters were truly cut from the same cloth, both determined to repay any kindness shown to them a hundredfold.

"This is no small matter. To me, it is a very big deal," Ye Qingxuan said with a serious expression; her sister was naturally very important to her. "May I have the honor of knowing your name? I am the Saintess of the Spirit Race. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Whatever you need, please don’t hesitate to ask. As long as it isn’t too outrageous, I can fulfill your request."

"It’s been a long time..."

Just as Yi Tianyun opened his mouth to speak, several Spirit Race members suddenly hurried over, interrupting their conversation.

"Holy Daughter, our identities have been exposed! We can’t buy any Elixir Pills. Most of the apothecaries are refusing to sell to us..." a Spirit Race member said, his face etched with worry. "We don’t have nearly enough Elixir Pills now. The injured among our people don’t have the medicine they need to heal..."

It was rather ironic. The Spirit Race was incredibly talented when it came to Divine Runes, but in Alchemy, they were merely average. They relied on purchasing the vast majority of their pills, able to refine only a small portion themselves. Their innate talent was set; abandoning it to pursue Alchemy would clearly not be worth the trade-off.

Now, under pressure from the Netherworld Empire, they had to be extremely cautious just to procure supplies, constantly fearing capture.

"They won’t sell us Elixir Pills anymore... Sigh. I can understand their position. Under pressure from the Netherworld Empire, who would dare continue selling to us?" Ye Qingxuan sighed. "We’ll keep sending people out to buy. We’ll just have to get what we can."

"Ding! Do you wish to accept the quest: *Save the Spirit Race*?"

A notification popped up, momentarily stunning Yi Tianyun. It didn’t display a reward, nor did it show any specific details.

"Accept!"

Without a shred of hesitation, Yi Tianyun accepted the quest.

"Ding! Quest *Save the Spirit Race* successfully accepted! Ultimate Reward: Become the King of the Spirit Race! Initiating Quest Part 1: *Fill the Spirit Race’s Elixir Pill Shortage*. Completion Reward: 5,000,000 Experience, 50,000 Madness Value, +5,000 Alchemy Mastery Skill Level, +50 Spirit Race Favorability!"

’What? Become the King of the Spirit Race?’

Yi Tianyun was stunned. If he understood correctly, did this mean he was supposed to become the leader of the Spirit Race? A human becoming the King of the Spirit Race—could there be some mistake? But since the system had prompted it, there shouldn’t be any problem.

’Interesting... If I can bring the Spirit Race under my command, then my Merak Sect...’

Several ideas popped into Yi Tianyun’s head. One was that it would be far too easy for the Merak Sect to become a Third-Grade Faction. Even becoming a Fourth-Grade Faction probably wouldn’t be very difficult. If he had the entire Spirit Race on his side, what was there to worry about? It would be like gaining a powerful Divine Rune Gate!

On this continent, the Spirit Race’s mastery of Divine Runes was absolutely top-tier.
