Chapter 535: Chapter 294: ’Simple and Honest Customs, Exotic Charm’ (Part 2)
...
Over the next few days, Fang Zhen took care of one thing: he applied for a visa to Nigeria.
Ke Liangjie, the man Li Zoyi had introduced him to during his last arms purchase, had decided to go to Africa to escape a gang that was after him.
「The night before he was set to leave the country.」
Fang Zhen chatted with Ke Liangjie for a while on the Telegram app and discovered the man was already in Nigeria.
And from the photos Ke Liangjie had sent, it seemed he was doing quite well there.
Fang Zhen decided to make a trip to Africa, but before that, he and Ke Liangjie had settled a few things online.
Fang Zhen wanted to buy some RPGs, sniper rifle ammunition, and other, more powerful equipment.
Fang Zhen started a more in-depth conversation with Ke Liangjie right there on Telegram.
Fang Zhen: "How have you been doing over there in Africa? Have you established your connections yet?"
Ke Liangjie: "I’m doing pretty well here. A few of my black brothers were doing business in Nigeria before me. They did well and carved out a niche for themselves. I’m also in business now, but I’ve run into a bit of trouble."
"Can you get in touch with the arms black market in Nigeria?" Fang Zhen sent another message directly.
There was a moment of silence from Ke Liangjie’s end before he replied: "I have the channels. What do you want to buy?"
"RPGs, Stingers, sniper rifle ammunition, grenade launchers... basically, I want all the high-powered, man-portable weapons you can get."
Once again, the conversation fell silent.
After more than twenty seconds, Ke Liangjie sent a reply: "Can I ask what you’re planning to do?"
"How many years have you been in this business? Don’t you know that’s a taboo question? It’s better for you to know less," Fang Zhen replied.
Ke Liangjie didn’t press the issue and replied: "I can help you get in touch with the right people."
"Actually, our interests don’t conflict. The business of managing these channels is tough, and the competition is fierce everywhere now."
"I want to improve my own standing, and to do that, I need to bring big deals to the powerful figures here."
"Your deal is a big one. If we can pull it off, my status in Nigeria will rise, and you’ll get what you need."
"So our interests are aligned. You don’t need to be wary of me."
Fang Zhen smiled at Ke Liangjie’s reply. ’The guy’s getting smarter. The environment probably forced him to,’ he thought.
Fang Zhen had no doubt that Ke Liangjie wouldn’t dare deceive him. He had subjected Ke Liangjie to violent hypnosis, and under normal circumstances, Ke Liangjie wouldn’t have the guts to lie to him.
Unless someone with exceptionally high Spiritual Power managed to neutralize Fang Zhen’s ability again.
But Fang Zhen felt that finding such a person on Blue Star would be extremely difficult.
"Good. Contact the sellers for me. I’ll bring the Gold, they’ll bring the equipment I want, and I’ll make a trip to Africa."
"I want this done efficiently. Handle it as best you can," Fang Zhen messaged.
On Telegram, Fang Zhen sent over the details of what needed to be prepared for the deal, then he got ready to leave the country.
「The next day.」
Fang Zhen bought a business class ticket to Nigeria.
The itinerary took him first to the Imperial Capital, then a flight to Dubai, and from there a transfer to Lagos.
Lagos is the economic center of Nigeria, while its political capital is Abuja.
Lagos is also a port city. Broadly speaking, one could compare Abuja and Lagos to China’s own Shanghai and Imperial Capital.
Except, Lagos would be a relatively smaller and more underdeveloped version of Shanghai.
...
「Two days later.」
After seventeen consecutive hours of flying, Fang Zhen arrived in Lagos.
After disembarking, he walked out of Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
He found Lagos to be quite chaotic. Motorcycles were everywhere on the streets, and the city planning was poor.
Generally, the airport is one of the nicer parts of any city.
But the Lagos airport was just so-so, feeling a bit like a small airport in one of China’s third-tier cities.
After leaving the airport, before Ke Liangjie could even arrive to pick him up, Fang Zhen was nearly robbed.
A few people approached with ill intent. The moment he stepped outside, he felt several pairs of eyes on him.
Just as Fang Zhen was wondering what the situation in Lagos was like and if it was really this chaotic, two motorcycles suddenly sped toward him.
On each motorcycle, one man was driving while another sat on the back. One of the passengers reached out, trying to snatch the small travel bag Fang Zhen was carrying.
Seeing this, Fang Zhen didn’t even need to look. He simply took a small step back, creating a tiny bit of distance.
But with just that little bit of distance, the would-be bag snatcher on the speeding motorcycle couldn’t touch Fang Zhen no matter how he tried.
Fang Zhen immediately kicked out, striking the side of the motorcycle’s wheel.
The robber’s motorcycle flew sideways for seven or eight meters. The bikers were sent sprawling in a heap, and the motorcycle’s rear wheel was actually bent out of shape by Fang Zhen’s kick.
However, this didn’t scare off the other bikers.
In fact, two more motorcycles charged at him from behind, attempting to ram him.
The man on the back of one of the bikes bared his teeth in a snarl, his white teeth looking terrifying against his savage expression. He was holding a homemade sharpened machete and looked ready to slash at Fang Zhen.
Fang Zhen’s brow furrowed.
’I knew Africa was chaotic, but I didn’t think it would be this bad,’ he thought. ’Getting robbed right after landing.’
And looking around at the local pedestrians, every single one of them was completely calm, as if this sort of thing happened so often it no longer drew much attention.
