Chapter 519: Chapter 289: Dark Flame Lord Malganis

Osetis’s move had also consumed a considerable amount of power. He needed to recover his energy before he could use another skill.

The Divine Rune Warriors at the rear were in a similar state.

Most of them possessed special skills. For instance, some Divine Rune Warriors could unleash flying blades that resembled ice shards.

A Divine Rune Warrior slashed his Longsword through the air, and a crescent-shaped ice blade instantly materialized. It then quickly split into three or four copies, which flew out in all directions.

The crescent ice blades struck the Little Demons and other demons charging from the flanks.

The weaker Little Demons were sliced apart, while the larger demons were disemboweled.

There were also Divine Rune Warriors who wielded the powers of wind, fire, lightning, and thunder. The destructive capability of each one was not to be underestimated.

Fang Zhen didn’t look back, but he could sense that the Divine Rune Warriors behind him weren’t slacking off or dragging him down.

Instead, they provided solid support for Fang Zhen, preventing the Demon Legion from surrounding him.

Fang Zhen formed the sharpest, most powerful tip of the formation’s spearhead, while the Divine Rune Warriors were the steel reinforcing it.

Duke Phil’s soldiers at the rear became the shaft of the arrow, following the formidable Fang Zhen and the troop of Divine Rune Warriors as they charged into Northwest City.

They were like a red-hot knife slicing through solid butter.

Riding this momentum, Fang Zhen carved a path forward, and before long, he had charged almost to the city center.

There, he found a rather large square. It was clear that many citizens had once gathered here, using it as a community center and a place for announcing administrative orders.

But now, the square was densely packed with two or three thousand corrupted Demon Puppets of all kinds.

In the very center of the city square, where a divine pedestal or a leader’s statue should have been, stood a large platform, surrounded by a fountain plaza.

It seemed Northwest City had once been quite prosperous, to even have a non-essential, recreational structure like a fountain plaza.

And now, hanging above the fountain plaza, was a massive black void.

The void resembled the Light Gate Fang Zhen had traveled through, but not entirely. The black void was surrounded by what looked like a giant, flaming ring burning in mid-air.

There was no material substance beneath the ring of fire; it simply blazed, suspended in the air.

The flames were orange-yellow, flecked with black embers, and gave off a demonic feeling, as if it wanted to devour all onlookers.

An evil aura emanated from the orange flames, which seemed to have burned straight through space itself, leaving behind a black emptiness.

The fire appeared to be burning continuously, and in the process, it was opening a connection to another dimension.

Fang Zhen could feel the chaotic and evil aura from that other dimension spreading across the square.

Beneath this massive, burning gate in the sky, countless demons were gathered.

The strange creatures—humans who had been transformed into puppet-like demons by the corruption—seemed to be undergoing further mutations beneath the burning Light Gate.

These corrupted ones were more like demons than humans, having lost their reason and human emotions, becoming killing machines and slaves to other, higher-ranking demons.

’Is this the Demon Gate?’

Fang Zhen stared at the burning void.

The burning void was a perfect circle, at least ten meters in diameter, suspended in the air—a truly shocking sight.

If a passage between here and some part of the abyss was truly opened, one could only imagine the countless, even more terrifying demons that would pour into the Divine Rune Realm.

"It’s a spatial passage! They’ve opened a passage to the abyss, three days earlier than we anticipated."

"If we don’t stop it, the passage will fully connect to the abyss any moment now!"

Osetis couldn’t help but exclaim upon seeing the Light Gate appear in the sky.

Hearing this, a cold glint appeared in Fang Zhen’s eyes.

He looked up at the tunnel in the sky that led to the abyss.

These demons were savage, but they weren’t stupid.

They had actually known to create a timing advantage, using some form of misdirection to significantly speed up the opening of the tunnel to the abyss. They had completely played Duke Phil and his men.

If Fang Zhen hadn’t arrived in this world ahead of schedule and provided Duke Phil with Divine Rune Weapons and other materials, they would have likely been counter-attacked and overwhelmed by the new Demon Legion about to arrive.

"We must destroy this Light Gate. We can’t let the demons from the other side come into this world, or we are doomed to fail," Osetis said, his voice low and tense.

Though his voice was low, it carried clearly across the entire battlefield, and the faces of the Divine Rune Warriors turned grim.

They too knew that once the Light Gate opened completely, what awaited them was more than just a difficult battle.

It would be a life-or-death crisis.

They would either end up in the bellies of demons or be captured and turned into corrupted Demon Puppets.

A flicker, like lightning, flashed in Fang Zhen’s eyes. He shouted, "How do we destroy this Light Gate?"

Osetis replied, "This Light Gate must have some kind of device providing it with energy. Otherwise, it couldn’t be maintained before the connection is fully established."

"We need to find that device and destroy it. That gives us the best chance of destroying the Light Gate."

Fang Zhen nodded, but the power source was nowhere near the Light Gate.
