Chapter 446: Chapter 265: Drone and ’Rocket

After observing Lanxi City for a while, Fang Zhen felt the morale of the people here was genuinely higher than in other places.

If you could rate cities by their collective state of mind, some would be oppressive, negative, and anxious. Others might be comfortable and peaceful, while some would be positive, healthy, and proactive.

Lanxi City’s style, however, was a kind of transcendent state—calm, yet unafraid of death.

But on second thought, it was understandable. Anyone who managed to survive here had either suffered a cruel misfortune, like having their parents or relatives killed by the aberrations...

...or they were veterans, tempered by countless battles, who were now living out their retirement while training new soldiers.

In any case, Fang Zhen had the utmost respect for the residents of Lanxi City, who could maintain such composure in the face of disaster.

After Alexander returned, he didn’t sleep a wink. The city’s Alchemy Workshop worked through the night, producing a large quantity of Blood Burst Secret Medicine.

A single one of Fang Zhen’s potassium permanganate tablets could produce roughly one bottle of Blood Burst Secret Medicine, enough to supply a Warrior for two or three days.

The total amount of potassium permanganate Fang Zhen had brought was just about enough.

Plus, he still had some more potassium permanganate in his subspace.

Back at his company, Hao Lei’s subordinates had been a huge help. They had used their IDs to purchase many materials and medications that, while not illegal, were difficult to acquire.

At that moment, atop the walls of Lanxi City, which were lit up like a forest of torches, Alexander and the other leaders of the Whig Society were surveying the battlefield.

From the forest below, incessant roars echoed, punctuated by gurgling sounds that were truly demonic.

The aberrations.

Fang Zhen followed Alexander and the others onto the wall. He switched the binoculars in his hands to night-vision mode and peered into the distance.

In the forest some distance from Lanxi City, the aberrations had already formed their ranks.

The aberrations couldn’t maintain orderly ranks like a formal army, but they had formed a massive horde, much like a herd of wildebeest. For now, they remained relatively organized.

Occasionally, a few of the aberrations would crash into each other and start brawling, but these were just minor, non-lethal scuffles.

Besides the Abnormal Ghosts, which were the most numerous, there were also Ghost-faced Spiders and Fierce Ghosts.

Fierce Ghosts were not as common among the aberrations; there was roughly one for every forty to fifty Abnormal Ghosts.

These Fierce Ghosts came in various forms. In addition to the Black Armored Fierce Ghost Fang Zhen had seen before, there were also the Poisonous Cannon Fiends.

’This type of Fierce Ghost is extremely dangerous. The poison they spit can dissolve solid rock. If they were to concentrate their fire, the walls of Lanxi City might hold, but the gate is another story.’

Just then, Alexander was speaking with the captain in charge of the city gate.

"Have the gates been reinforced?"

The captain replied, "They have. Our main gate is now sufficiently thick, and we’ve installed a one-meter-thick inner gate operated by a pulley system. Furthermore, both the inner and outer gates have been coated with various alchemical agents. The aberrations won’t be able to breach them, whether by poison or brute force."

Fang Zhen had a moment of realization upon hearing this.

’I’d forgotten that the Whig Society is full of master craftsmen. Since they managed to figure out things like concrete, it makes sense they’d also have pulley systems and chemical agents to counteract the aberrations’ corrosive abilities. I don’t need to worry about that.’

"We also need to monitor the Warriors’ stamina," Alexander continued. "Before the aberrations begin their main assault, we’ll organize our defense into three rotating shifts. Everyone needs to rest in turns and conserve their energy. We have no idea how long this siege will last."

"Also, are the energy gels ready?" Alexander asked.

"We’ve prepared some, but the energy gels are very expensive, and our raw materials are limited. We only managed to make a little over four hundred units," West answered.

Alexander frowned. "When the aberrations attack, the true threat will be the Fierce Ghosts and other, even more powerful types. The Abnormal Ghosts are just cannon fodder, meant to drain our supplies and stamina."

"Our focus must be on guarding against an assault from those powerful aberrations. Repelling their attacks will require our Curse Sealers, which will consume a great deal of their Spirit and stamina. If their energy runs out, our defense will face serious problems."

"Perhaps I can solve that problem," Fang Zhen suddenly said.

His words drew everyone’s attention.

Fang Zhen was already used to being the center of attention.

"I have a way to help the Curse Sealers maintain a certain level of power within a radius of several dozen meters around me," Fang Zhen said. "But I’ll need a lot of supplies. Specifically, a large quantity of energy gels and, ideally, an Energy Storage Stone with a very high capacity."

Alexander turned and stared at Fang Zhen for a moment.

"Alright."

Without asking any questions, Alexander said, "If you can do that, we may need you to hold the line at the most critical moment. Don’t worry, I’ll be fighting right alongside you to repel the monsters’ assault."

Fang Zhen nodded.

He had offered this ability because he was preparing to use the King’s Sword.

But his willingness to reveal this, aside from wanting to acquire the energy gels, was driven by another reason as well.
